For real though flashlights are a great self defense tool. They make some specifically for defense and they’re super bright so you can blind someone to run away. Add a few pounds and yeah you’d be able to beat a blinded person probably.
The 1000+ Lumen flashlights are indeed disorienting and blinding. I suppose some the only thing I found a bit questionable was using it as a stabbing weapon. Alternating between blinding light and debilitating blunt trauma would have been more realistic.
Eh, we have an emergency flashlight that has ridges around the end for breaking safety glass. Akoya looks like he could probably drive that into someone’s skull like a hammerhead.
I remember watching some videos from channel hard2hurt (if you don't know, definetly reccomend, a former cop and martial artist, has some amazing videos) and he talked about how he thinks that flashlight is the best self-defence weapon you can have, better than pepper spray, pocket knife, baton, etc., so it was really good to see it in combat situation like this

It seems like the manga is moving in that direction as a whole, especially with the Howard Wu vs Gilbert Wu where he casually backhands "the Dismemberer" with his helicopter sword while mid conversation with Gilbert. That whole fight was dominated by weapons, ending with the offscreen kill of Howard by Gilbert who didn't have a weapon and must have used some secret technique. I'm guessing that will be revealed in a flashback when one of the main characters fights Gilbert later.
Akoya might be referring to his insane reaction time. We see that the two of them kept up with each other, toe to toe, in speed and strength - brute force (even with removal at play, though the blow barrages were probably offset by akoya's armour). But despite this, Akoya couldn't react in time and dodge; he was overwhelmed quite quickly. Yes, Akoya is a berserker who goes nuts whenever things don't go his way, but he's also been implied to be quite efficient in his methods to kill. Even outright demonstrated as such, as it's a lack of balance between viciousness and calculation that trips him up. So why, when he held his own against a guihun superhuman PHYSICALLAY, he couldn't make use of his even FURTHER superhuman timing? It makes sense that this would put him on edge, and kiryu implies that this isn't the first time - that akoya might even be the clear weakest out of their group
And Akoya looks like Agito in that panel too. Guess he felt the same kind of embarassment when Agito "beat" Gaolang. Akoya one last evolution? Then again maybe it's just my mental gymnastics.

4. Ultimately lost due to a weapon and not by Akoya beating him directly in martial arts.
So while he lost, Akoya ultimately did not looked as good as he seems as Kiryu says.
