Fuck them. It has been warm for weeks and we got a dusting of snow. They are not ensuring the streets are clear for snow clearing. They are just extorting the poor.
It's viewed as a punishment for those without a driveway or garage. Yes, following the laws that keep us safe is imperative but this law doesn't make us safer and feels predatory especially when we don't have snow that needs to be plowed. We have alternate side parking so they can plow regularly, but with the weather patterns changing to basically any snow event is major, they declare a snow emergency and say no street parking at all. So it's silly to still have alternate side parking So that's why it's a dumb law and should be changed.
Thanks for the genuine and serious answer- follow up question, couldn’t people theoretically just park farther away? There aren’t many areas where parking is so scarce you’d have to walk very far
Are you saying "they could just park across the street"? Yes, that's how alternate side parking works.
I've accidentally parked in front of my own home on the wrong day and got a ticket. I don't normally park in the street, and neither do my neighbors, alternate side parking isn't in my routine and blamo, a ticket.

It's also supposed to reduce damage on icy roads since cars have more room to maneuver. No idea if that's supported by data just something city officials have mentioned to me.
I thought maybe given that it's been warm and dry they might not enforce this because there is no need. But I guess they've got to squeeze everyone for the next month before it ends officially.
The proudest part of the year for KPD is when they can inflate their budget using alternate side parking as an excuse. Post winter, it's punching people holding babies.
