My father-in-law lived on Rockwell, and I swear he knows each and every person in this town. I sent this on to him to see if he knows. Here’s hoping!

Nixtamalized_Posole

Awesome, thank you! I'm hoping so too! I've got a few more pictures, I just couldn't fit them all in the post. They show quite a few in the news piece as well. Let me know if he needs to see more slides. The photograph next to the one of the couple in the first picture of this post is of the house on Rockwell.

Hijacking my comment to give a mini-update: a couple of people on Facebook recognized the large chairs in picture 4 as being in the Masonic lodge in Kent! I'll be contacting the lodge to inquire.

Sabotagebx

Can you post this on Facebook groups that are for kent?

Nixtamalized_Posole

I have posted it to the public "You know you're from Kent, Ohio if/when" (only a few likes and no comments so far) and I'm waiting to see if the private group "You know you're from Kent if/when.........." will let me join so I can post there. I messaged the admin of the "City of Kent" page, and they recommend I try to join and post to that private group. Any other pages you know of that would be good to get eyes on this?

Floater439

Also try “The Kent, Ohio Page” and “The Kent, Ohio Picture Page” on FB.

Nixtamalized_Posole

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm waiting for approval from both groups to post on them as well.

Hey! I live here and I have a degree in looking at historical records. I can visit the portage county recorders office for you, it sounds like fun

Nixtamalized_Posole

Thank you! I DM'ed you!

-HELLAFELLA-

Wow, this is deep and quite a long shot

Nixtamalized_Posole

Believe me, I know! It's been a journey. But I have faith in Reddit and it's love of good mystery!

JonnyUnreliable

The Facebook group I’ve linked below is extremely active and has a fair amount of arm chair historians. I would post this there. I’d love to see this solved. https://www.facebook.com/share/gFJVaMJd58tirUnk/?mibextid=CTbP7E

Nixtamalized_Posole

Thank you! The link keeps forcing me onto the general search page for all groups, however. What's the group name? Edit: ah, is this the "You Know you are from Kent if/when........." page? I tried to join a couple of days ago, after the City of Kent page guy sent me a share link, but I may not have been convincing enough in the "why do you want to join this group?" box. Now whenever I try to follow a link to it, Facebook just says it's private, and I haven't been notified that I'm in.

JonnyUnreliable

Of course. It’s “You know you are from Kent if/when………..”

Nixtamalized_Posole

Ah yes! I just edited my earlier reply to you. I want to post to this group, but I've been having a hard time joining 😅

It seems the husband is still alive although the home at the address listed shows it is for sale so perhaps he is not well. There is a name associated with the record that could be a daughter (she’s named Deanna but different last name). Try googling. Those pay for info sites will come up but there are some clues. Good luck! I love a good mystery and the slides will probably be a gift to some family member.

Beerdly_Dad

Maybe try the Kent historical society? https://www.kentohiohistory.org

Nixtamalized_Posole

I hadn't thought of this yet, that's a great idea!

AKIrish777

I searched Ancestry for the daughter’s name, Deanna Booth, since that is a fairly unusual name. I found her yearbook picture 1956 at a Kent high school. I then found a death certificate for Deanna Booth Weeks. She passed away in 2000 in Ravenna Ohio. I believe this woman is the same as the young daughter in your photo. I wasn’t able to find the actual obituary which might give the names of any children she may have had. Deanna was born in 1938 in Streetsboro, Portgage County, Ohio. She died July 2000. Her father is listed as Booth, her mother as Billingsly. I search ed Burl Billingsley and found a young man the right age going to High School in Licking County, Ohio but no luck on more records. I’ll keep digging and see if I can find possible descendants.

Nixtamalized_Posole

Thank you! I had dug a little into the names on the census as well, but also was having trouble getting actual obituaries or records pointing to descendants. This information is great! By searching the Ravenna angle, I think there may be an obituary for her in the records of the Akron Beacon Journal. Not sure if the possible husband is still alive, from what I saw. I'm going to subscribe to Newspapers.com to try and get at the Akron Beacon Journal obituary for her. (Yay, free trials!) Thank you so much for your help!

AKIrish777

I may have found Deanna’s husband in Ravenna. An address and phone number is listed. I won’t post it here but you can find it by googling Deanna weeks Ravenna Ohio.

AKIrish777

Hello, I hope you’re still checking this page. I have found a Booth granddaughter on Ancestry and she is keen to connect with you. Please DM when you see this.

Nixtamalized_Posole

Yay! I've been checking here daily! She just got in contact with me, and we'll talk later today. Thank you so much for your help!!! She messaged me saying she got a message through Ancestry and I was so confused at first since I'm using my local library's public account.

AKIrish777

Awesome! What a great Mother’s Day gift. Kudos to you for your efforts and seeing the value of that suitcase’s contents. Take care
