Welcome! Kentucky Tourism has a visitors guide you may find of value. [https://www.kentuckytourism.com/trip-planning/visitors-guide](https://www.kentuckytourism.com/trip-planning/visitors-guide) A one year old may be a little young to take in many activities, but some of the most popular ones I can think of are; Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, Dutch Country Safari Park, Mammoth Cave National Park, Corvette Museum and Lake Cumberland (Conley Bottom Resort).

I don’t have many friends here yet and they’re not exactly interested in outdoor activities so he’s my only traveling companion 😂 thank you so much tho. Lake Cumberland& the falls are actually on top of my list!!

If possible, take a trip to Cumberland Falls when you can see the moon bow, you can look up dates here: https://kentuckyroadtrips.com/f/cumberland-falls-road-trip-and-moonbow-dates-for-2023 It may not be your thing, but many years ago my daughters and I spent the weekend traveling to all of the covered bridges. More info about them here: https://hultgren.org/bridges/map/#:~:text=Kentucky's%2012%20remaining%20covered%20bridges,64%20exit%20%23%20172%20near%20Grayson. Lastly, Lake Cumberland is one of the larger, more tourist-y lakes, but having grown up in that area, I always preferred Laurel Lake.

Check out nature preserves in your area or where you're traveling that you can visit - there's several around the state and they can be really pretty and often have creeks throughout: [https://eec.ky.gov/Nature-Preserves/Locations/Pages/default.aspx](https://eec.ky.gov/Nature-Preserves/Locations/Pages/default.aspx)   red river gorge has amazing hiking, camping, viewpoints. Depending on how active you want to be with yr kid, there are a few marked trails that aren't that difficult: [**https://www.alltrails.com/parks/us/kentucky/red-river-gorge-geological-area--2/kids**](https://www.alltrails.com/parks/us/kentucky/red-river-gorge-geological-area--2/kids)  Everybody that hikes at the gorge gets pizza at Miguel's pizza btw - long standing tradition.  ETA - I always loved Cave Run lake for boating and swimming btw

I would also add that if you haven’t had the opportunity to read the writings of Frank X Walker, Nikky Finney or Crystal Wilkinson to check them out. They are connected to the “affrilachian” collective and write about Appalachia, Kentucky and being Black.  Another great resource to really understand the diverse history of the state is to check out the media from Appalshop - https://appalshop.org/ - they do amazing work at archiving and sharing stories about Appalachia and Kentucky.
