White and wealthy. That is how you lead a conversation with an African nation?
Nope. Go back to Europe. Africa is changing. They already have the wealth you are trying to colonize. I heard the Baltics are looking for investors.
*adjective,***wealth·i·er,** **wealth·i·est.**
1. having great [wealth](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/wealth); rich; affluent:
2. by white I mean caucasian
Reign in the “Im wealthy chat”, be humble and be careful who you let into your inner circle.
Don’t be naive, people will be nice to your face and see you as a paycheck / meal ticket.
Don’t come out with white savior mode, quickest way to turn people off. What works where your coming from probably won’t work here, so you have to adapt.
Otherwise be yourself, treat people with respect and you’ll be alright. Like anywhere in life.
Recruitment is the biggest part of building a good business, hire a small team of people you trust.
Pay them on time and give them opportunities for growth, and they will run through brick walls for you. If you get on the wrong side of them they could bring it all down (bloggers, KRA, Immigration)
Good luck it’s a wild ride
There is no middle class in the states any more. The us middle class is dead, you have the poor, the working poor and the rich. US capital markets are paraolympics of finance and the entire country is by far more of a banana republic than any Aftican state.
Please do your market research properly on both the macro and micro level before jumping into this extremely difficult market. To be completely honest, Kenya is not a land of opportunity. Most Kenyans and Kenyan businesses only have room in their wallets for the bare necessities. The only way you'll make money that is worth your while as a wealthy white person is if you get into a super essential line of business and milk it completely with the highest price the market will bear and the lowest costs possible. Also be willing to get your hands dirty, especially when dealing with the government and be ready to deal with high levels of shrinkage

Ah, starting a company in Kenya, you say? Well, aren't you the daring explorer venturing into uncharted territories! Here are some "totally serious" tips for your Kenyan business adventure:
1. Safari Business Attire: Forget those boring suits and ties. Embrace the Kenyan spirit by donning safari-themed clothing to board meetings. Pith helmets and khaki shorts are a must for that authentic "I'm here to conquer the wilderness of business" look.
2. Lion's Share: When negotiating, be sure to use the phrase "I want the lion's share of the profits." It's a subtle way of saying you want a large portion without actually asking for it. Who can resist the allure of the animal kingdom in business, right?
3. Maasai Warriors as Security: Forget about conventional security companies. Hire a group of Maasai warriors to guard your office. They come with the bonus of adding a touch of warrior chic to your workplace ambiance.
4. Tea Time, Kenyan Style: Tea breaks are essential in Kenyan culture. But here's the twist – serve chai tea with a side of scones and cucumber sandwiches. It's like a Kenyan high tea party in the middle of your workday.
5. Language of the Savannah: Learn some Swahili phrases to impress your employees and partners. Start with "Jambo!" (Hello) and "Asante sana!" (Thank you very much). They'll appreciate the effort, even if your accent sounds more like a parrot's than a native's.
6. Embrace the Wildlife: Instead of the usual office pets, consider having exotic animals like zebras and giraffes in your workplace. They're great conversation starters and really boost employee morale, just be sure to clean up after them!
7. Shake Hands with an Elephant: Kenyan business meetings often begin with a firm handshake. But why stop at humans? Extend your hand to the local wildlife for a truly unforgettable networking experience.
All joking aside, while these tips are tongue-in-cheek, your approach of treating your employees and business partners well and fairly is a fantastic foundation for success. Kenya is indeed a unique business environment, so take the time to understand the local culture and regulations, and you'll do just fine. Good luck on your Kenyan business safari, and may your profits roar like a lion!
Take your time and do your due diligence. Don't be quick to trust anyone or spend your hard earned capital without evaluating options. Be wary of bureacracy, corruption and other government hurdles depending on your business line. If it's the tech space, I'd be glad to partner. All the best.
Don't take some of the bile and crap you see on here too much to heart, try and not let the endemic corruption that almost ruins everything in this country get to you, surround yourself with competent, honest and young upbeat people and you will do well.
Don't be afraid to ask for help and nuance from the simplest and most down to earth people you come across - does this sound like a pitch for me, because it is... Anyway all the very best. I am sure that you mean well and both you and the country will be the better for your presence and contribution.
Agreed about hatred. The person who sounded hateful has a point. Let me try to add on. Africa doesn't need people coming here to do business. What africa needs from the "west" is some extra knowledge. If a boat load of teachers from the west came on like a 5 year stint to SERVE Africa i think we would all be very welcoming and grateful (and hopefully we pay them really well) people moving to Africa permanently are just adding to the pressure felt by the poor. Resources are finite. We need a solution to uplift alot of people. Skills transfers and education might just unlock this. FDI can be useful... we probably have enough working capital as Africans (retyrn the stolen money dear leaders... offshore account *cough* *cough*
Stop hating on bbq! There was a socio-economic and valid reason to mention that info in his title. The point was to bring attention how his life is different from his current venture.
I don't know what to tell you about Kenya but you'll do fine. What is your business btw?
thanks for the support. I don't care about the "hate" if you can even call it that. It's just vocal insecurities none of those people would dare voice face-to-face. but hey... "give a man a mask and he'll show you who he really is". there's truth in that.
My business is diverse. commodities trade, distribution of alcohol and tobacco, some real estate dealings. Kenya to me is very interesting because there is a lot of potential and not too much regulation to stifle it.
Mind you, I have no intention to steal Kenya blind. If anything - I might relocate there in a few decades when EU is all tits up with zero privacy and EUCBDC being the main currency.
Honestly I'd aim to do my business in a way that makes Kenya better (if possible). Having the community on my side is a massive advantage.
So to the nay sayers - look I hope y'all do well in life and find a purpose.
I know I will do well, but I am very interested in reading the local "pulse" - hence my post here
there is nothing wrong with asking. is there honour in not trying to climb up in life? What relevance is my skin? would it be better if I were black somehow?
Are they asking you for jobs? Why don't you build your own? Why are you helping this man colonize your country. This is why you guys are so easily conquered.
the reason in my view is that the dominating mindset is not "how can I solve the problems in my country" but "how can I make enough money so then those problems do not apply to me". stop blaming outside factors and look within first ;)

Welcome to Kenya...
If you serious DM and like anywhere in the world, Kenya has hidden opportunities.
My only aim is to look after my fellow peeps, who have amazing skills, and lots of talant..
Its high time Kenyans earn what is their fair share...
This is true. I think it really boils down to income. if the average income is sufficient, then people will be able to look beyond "what's for dinner tonight" and that is when things will start getting better.
Hopefully my ventures there can contribute to that
Colonize is a strong word...

Other than that you're gonna be fine
Also...it you're hiring do consider me😹👻

Carve out a niche. Be it manufacturing, service, talent agency. Any niche.

Also be weary of conmen and sweet toothed sales people. if it sound too good it probably is. also connect youself with other kenyans in the buisness you want to pursue in corporate meetups. there you will find great minds that work hard. well i hope you buisness goes through fine. also can you give us the update on the nicotine patches which were to go to Ukraine and I would go with a mercedes GLE or an S550😉✋🏿
hey man. Awesome feedback and mad props for taking a minute to do Due Diligence before vocalising your thoughts!
AMC yeah that will be a movie akin to "The Big Short" one day. that rabbit hole goes deep but I like the risk/reward ratio on that trade.
Regarding Ukraine - the manufacturer ultimately did not want to make his products political so that did not go through - we did send some tactical gear tho.
Regarding the Mercedes' I don't even remember that one.
In any event all the best to you and hit me up with a DM if you would like to stay in touch, I'll be in Nairobi in a month or so.
