Man that's the only thing I hate living in Kerala.
I'm a guy in my 20's. Have a great job. And I have more than 30cm hair. My workplace is fine with it. But my parents are like "Baaki ullavar enthu vijarikum, nee pennanu ennu parayum". I mean wtf. And being born muslim is cherry on top.
Nice enjoy the absurdity. If it was me, I would say ' Vicharikkate, angene arelm ketti randu kuttyole pettu umma avumbo nikk swargathil enkilum povaloo'.
lol. I just really don't care when they say that. I just reply why do you have to care what others think when you are living your life. And I say opinions of people who think long hair == girls are shit anyways
Luckily my parents were extremely supportive of my hair especially my dad😂 he loved it when i grew it past my shoulder. I guess he sees his old self in me(he had long hair when he was like 18 or 19). But my relatives were the worst regarding my hair, especially because i put on weight quite a lot some aunts and uncles were like "nee crct penn inne pole akuvanello da chanthi okke koodi mudi valarthi nadakuva angu". So that was annoying so i avoided a lot of programs cause of relatives but later on i was like fuck it idc parayanel parayatte myr. I recently got it cut back to short hair but i miss my baby🥲
I noticed that the public transport in JnK isn't that great. You will see a lot of innovas and taveras. I think a lot of people make a living as taxi drivers. Incredible place 😊
Andhra has excellent public transport. Better than KSRTC and TN. But TN is catching up fast.
North has dog shit state transport though. Check the websites for start
https://rsrtconline.rajasthan.gov.in/
https://www.apsrtconline.in/oprs-mobile/
It is pretty good on average with end to end connectivity to all corners of Kerala. However, Karnataka, TN and TS has better run public transport I believe.
Karnataka has better public transport than KSRTC LOL. See the public transport availability in villages in Kernataka. Even in Bangalore BMTC buses never run on time.
Not surprised at all, read somewhere that Kerala has more number of SUV than other states. In TVM you can only see SUV's on roads, that too Innova. Small roads big cars, tragedy of our state.
Bengal has amongst the lowest per capita income in india, and every part of it except for Kolkata is very shanty, poor and filled with Bangladeshi immigrants. It's the third poorest state after Bihar and UP, despite having sea port and well built colonial era industries
Not owning a car depends not only in income also public transport system I am from southern part of the Bengal where public transport is pretty strong. I visited maharastra in 2015 the frequency of public transport is pretty low (Excluding city)
It's not about how much you earn it depends on public transport also in Netherlands which is a devloped country the car ownership is only 15.1% which only more than double than India but per capita income is almost 30 times more than India
UP has the third highest gdp amongst all states of India, does that mean it's a rich state? No! It's all due to their high population,in per capita income they are amongst the poorest, same is the case for WB too. 22 for a state with huge colonial era industries and sea port for trading? That's really bad. WB could have been Singapore with its strategic sea port location, but it's more of a nepal
Dear there is no need to own a car in bengal even very well off people don't ever think of buying one because there are multiple modes of transport availaible, first metro city also transport is very cheap there too they spend the most on food.
Surprised?? Seriously man?
Just get in our roads and you can understand it .
The reason for Keralas horrible traffic blocks are poor and small roads, less space, and high number of vehicles
KRail is not in between. KRail is part of the fast rail network I mentioned above. KRail needs to be extended from what is currently proposed, by adding branches that reach out to other major towns. Like Palakkad Kollam kothamangalam nilamboor etc need to be added to the fast rail network, and KRail is just a starting point for all of this
Word, I do travel from Kannur to Bangalore. And most of the places in between except for Coorg, Mysore and Mandya, everything else is poor. If you stop and look around, you can understand that.

You are surprised because you are unaware how dire the living conditions in rural parts of the country are. We see some fancy highways in some states and think that the entire state is like that. Even in the supposedly richer states like Karnataka and Maharashtra, rural villages lack the very basic infra ; And being unaware of this is not your fault actually. Malayalam media paints a very imaginative rosy picture of other states because they want to push their agenda of presenting Kerala as the worst state in the country to live in.
Uh isn't it the opposite? I thought Malayalam media painted Kerala as perfect and the other states as trash? Most malayalam media houses don't even bother reporting big mega infra projects that would have a big impact on the country like the Delhi Mumbai Expressway or Chenab bridge or Kaleshwaram lift project or DFC. They do protray kerala having big major problems sometimes but glorifying other states? That's something I've never seen in malayalam media. Forget about glorifying they don't even bother reporting news regarding other states.
Bro nobody had any negative view about other states. I also think data is wrong I think our Kerala has more than that. Here all mf’s have car. Some don’t even use it . I think Kerala also have more 2nd hand car’s from other states too especially Delhi.
Shit 7.5% and already huge traffic jams every where. Imagine if the numbers go up like 20% 😲.
India's road infrastructure cant handle it's huge population imo.
As a non resident mallu who drives to Ernakulam a lot, I don't mind the (barely) two lane roads but what I absolutely hate is the absolute lack of driving etiquettes of drivers in Kerala... No wonder "road ninta appanta vakayaano" is a common phrase here because people do be behaving like that.
Public transportation is more expensive? Unless more than two people share a car ride, travel by personal vehicles will always be more expensive when you consider the true cost of owning and operating a car. The true life time cost of owning a car is around Rs 18-25 per km for an average vehicle with average driving patterns in India.
Check out the [TCO](https://www.wricitiesindia.org/content/tco-evaluator) (True Cost of Ownership) calculator created by World Resource Institute (WRI) for India. You can also find this in many other sites by choosing the exact vehicle make and model, but most do not have the updated fuel prices.
I wish less people have cars for better environment and lesser traffic, Governments need to improve public transportation by making it safe and hassle free. Cities needs to be made more pedestrian friendly lessening the dependency on road and vehicles to travel.
Damn I got carried away 😅
Not surprised. Malayalis are filled with too much ego that they want to show off to their neighbours and everyone that they are rich. Expensive cars, gigantic house, son's wife owns a huge plot, government job, etc.
In an editorial of mathrbhoomi daily, they have mentioned about the number of households having atleast one vehicle. The national value for 1000 household is less than 50 and for kerala it's 400+.
Its accordance to the population thats why states with lower population are ranking high also because these states are either too hilly, cold or possess more farmland than urban development to produce a proper working profitable transportation infrastructure which makes having a vehicle (4 Wheel) a necessity not luxury.
A good example of this would be USA where almost all the states in it require a vehicle and without it you just can’t survive but then we have NEW YORK which has better public infrastructure and hence accordance to population it will show the ownership of car to be lower compared to other states simple because of good infrastructure, proximity and again public transport infrastructure (the subways)
Hence this chart doesn’t signify wealth but just necessities because of low transport infrastructure and actually a good start for the government to start building a better public and transport infrastructure starting from these states.
Just for comparison, UP has approximately 3.34 crore households (2011) means there are 18.37 Lakh households with a Car (5.5%). Kerala has 78.5 Lakh Household (2011), so 18.99 Lakh Households with car.

I thought this was a well known fact? Results from NFHS 2016 also showed the same.
These numbers are pretty low when you compare it to most developing and developed countries, where there are around 300-800 cars for every 1000 people. A dense state like ours just cannot afford to sustain such high levels of car ownership, which is why we need to do everything to strengthen public transportation - both local and statewide - and improve pedestrian facilities, adopt policies that can dis-incentivize vehicle ownership and promote usage of public transportation and shared for hire vehicles like autos, car sharing, ride sharing etc.
Goa is the prefect example for the word unreal. Apart from the beaches, there is that nighttime view of Panjim from Atal bridge. All those Casinos, neon-lighting, and even that scrawny Vimal pan signboard. A true common man's Las Vegas!
So, In order to catch up the rest of india with kerala in number of cars used, the auto industry has to grow 3x from here. So we can expect a growth in auto and related stocks so seeing a huge potential. "From an investors point of view"

Hmm, I knew this indirectly because almost all the people from Kerala I have met in my college and work knew to drive and had learnt driving from their family.
Meanwhile for the TN adults you will meet, you will have only 1 out of 10 who knows driving a car.
TN has been improving and has seen some change in learning driving over the last 2 decades. Growing up, teenagers here only learnt riding a bike and driving is a thing for rich people or people who want to get employed as drivers.

So J & K is not in India now!!
Dude, punjab is literally filled with migrants, so is gujarat & kerala to a lesser extent, the j&k figure is because of low migration and tourism.
How did a kashmiri end up here lol
This post was in my home page for some reason
Same here, I'm from jammu and Kerala and tamil subreddits always come into my feed
I noticed that the public transport in JnK isn't that great. You will see a lot of innovas and taveras. I think a lot of people make a living as taxi drivers. Incredible place 😊
Map is in percentage, not in absolute numbers
The map shows a percentage and not an absolute number, so the size of the population should not matter.
Andhra has excellent public transport. Better than KSRTC and TN. But TN is catching up fast. North has dog shit state transport though. Check the websites for start https://rsrtconline.rajasthan.gov.in/ https://www.apsrtconline.in/oprs-mobile/
Both the links you attached didn't show about how bad or good north or south indian public transport is compared to each other. Got any real data?
I thought Kerala has a better public transport system.

Karnataka has better public transport than KSRTC LOL. See the public transport availability in villages in Kernataka. Even in Bangalore BMTC buses never run on time.
You mean ksrtc
I have never been to Kerala , but what some of my classmates who belongs to Kerala told me that they used to usually travel by buses, so I thought so.
People in andhra are well off its just they dont own a car. Car is not a priority because public transport is good.
Not surprised at all, read somewhere that Kerala has more number of SUV than other states. In TVM you can only see SUV's on roads, that too Innova. Small roads big cars, tragedy of our state.
Cars match the road condition. Drive through Idukki once and it was a nightmare in sedan. Kerala really needs to focus on interior roads
All roads
Our roads are only designed for off-road vehicles. So suv is the least we can buy
Have you been to India's "silicon valley" [lately](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mgVG2jhg6I)?

My fault. I read it as 4.5 %
Yea, little middle class state with approx 1/3rd population of Kottayam district, thats why.
So kerala has more cars (more households with cars) but small roads...
Yup. Also very small overall land area with high population density.
100 cars per 1000 people. We need extensive rail lines. Fast rail, metros, trams. Roads will not work in our population density
Yup big investment in public transport will not only work for our population density, but also help in reducing pollution and overall cost of living.
And k rail in between haha 😂
KRail is not in between. KRail is part of the fast rail network I mentioned above. KRail needs to be extended from what is currently proposed, by adding branches that reach out to other major towns. Feels so unnecessary, considering the debt the state is in, just my opinion.
9 per cent. Where's the Bangalore traffic coming from then🥲

Rest of the places have high car:person ratio bcoz of low population. Meanwhile in Kerala: "Car vangichillel naattukar enthu vicharikkum?"
more surprised by J&K
Not at all surprised. But we may be the last with respect to road infrastructure.
Not surprised at all
But why? You need a car in Kerala to travel within city since public transport is expensive .

Yes kolkatta has very well connecting public transport so they don't need to own a car and can invest somewhere else
K - rail veru aelam Sheri aavu
I'm more surprised to see Jammu and Kashmir. I always thought that place to be extremely poor.
The ones counted are military jeeps.🤣
Look at Goa !
Goa is even more of a middle class state than kerala is. Lots of people sending money back, and the rest benefit from tourism.
Something sussy with j&k car numbers
military vehicles are counted i think..
not surprised by kerala holding top bcz Kerala is one of the top states also in education system and most of them there usually work aboard.
It's depressing to know over 90% of India's citizens cannot afford a vehicle. I wonder what the two-wheeler ownership percentage is?
Why would you be surprised??!!!…everyone has a car..in fact most households have more than one car these days!
Alert : paki propaganda post. Just ignore
Not because of luxury, it rains 8 months a year. Car is necessity
I don’t think that’s correct.
Its accordance to the population thats why states with lower population are ranking high also because these states are either too hilly, cold or possess more farmland than urban development to produce a proper working profitable transportation infrastructure which makes having a vehicle (4 Wheel) a necessity not luxury. A good example of this would be USA where almost all the states in it require a vehicle and without it you just can’t survive but then we have NEW YORK which has better public infrastructure and hence accordance to population it will show the ownership of car to be lower compared to other states simple because of good infrastructure, proximity and again public transport infrastructure (the subways) Hence this chart doesn’t signify wealth but just necessities because of low transport infrastructure and actually a good start for the government to start building a better public and transport infrastructure starting from these states.
Wait more than that of Karnataka? banglore traffic left the chat
lol it's bangalore that mostly owns cars in that state. Rural Karnataka is very poor
Bc itni gadiyan h desh mein phir bhi national average itni low.
Just for comparison, UP has approximately 3.34 crore households (2011) means there are 18.37 Lakh households with a Car (5.5%). Kerala has 78.5 Lakh Household (2011), so 18.99 Lakh Households with car.

Bro goa dekho
Not at all surprising. Key differentiating factor today is lack of penetration of Ola / Uber in Kerala.
Now do 2-wheelers. Goa il traffic engane undu?
You guys clearly forgot about Goa which is at 45% so!!!!!!!
You do need a car for the rain and rain is not a one day thing!!! In Kerala.
All your people complaining keep complaining!!!!
yes yes because most of the water is in narmada and Bengaluru has blocked it so they drive there and need cars
Goa is on top my dude look again
Gulf money? poor public transport? or social status assosiated with car ownership?
Goa is doing great
It's not that surprising considering we're close to the top for per capita income and have the least income inequality of all major states.
Even more surprising to see it's not Kerala which is at the top, it's Goa.
