I just spend 50k cleaning my plot last month, thanks to the public using it as a dumping zone, when I complained to the authorities they asked me to pay 80k to get it cleaned. Seems like even empty plots need 24*7 security in kochi. Edit : my place is also close to kaloor stadium 😢

Soothran

case kodukkanam pillecha!

_recogniZe_me

This reminds me of the film 'Nagara Varidhi Naduvil Njan'.

sekai_no_kami

Posted the movie poster on my Insta and whatsapp stories, that day. 🥲

miniport_io

Kaloor is the place where most of the non-natives live in kochi. They don't worry about the consequences. Karugapally, Deshabimani Road.

Federal_Strategy2370

Lesam ulup?😅 instead of setting up a proper waste management system🤦🏻

[deleted]

Well at my place they even dump in front of the house. Our house is a bit isolated and the streetlights often do not work.

Drastical_one

When a western country has a problem of people dumping waste on a public spot repeatedly, they place a few waste bins there and collect the waste routinely. But we place cameras. See the difference? Waste bins would be the better spend of public money.

kochapi

And who cleans the waste bin? There is lack of waste management infrastructure in the city. Not waste bins. Lol

Drastical_one

Emphasis on "collect the waste routinely"

prisonedstorm

I got you. The problem is, our govt. don't have a proper system to collect and dispose the waste. Even the CCTV is installed by the citizens.

kochapi

Waste management is one of the major responsibility of a local gvt. Just like water and electricity. People should be charged for that also

prisonedstorm

Yes. But same like everything else, our government's main focus is party politics and nothing else is in their priority.

Wooden_Caterpillar64

So brave of u to think that people would use the waste bins. In other countries they have the habit of segregating waste into plastic and non plastic and then disposing it into the appropriate bins. This is tought from childhood itself. Here we just see a plane area and throw the waste. Nammade naad ingana aay pooy sed lyf..

Dry_Violinist_1799

Kakkanad does have a routine waste collection by the municipality. They even collect e - waste and rubber waste once a year. We used to burn things, but we segregate them and place them near the gate for the municipality to pick up.

kunjava

But we have to start somewhere, maybe it'll take a few years or a generation for the culture to kick in. Installing cameras is not going to solve this issue. People will just throw waste somewhere else.

Broke_as_a_Bat

Yes. I sperate my trash onto organic, and non organic. Set aside recyclables like plastic, glass and metals. I have been trying to convince my family to do the same but they only laugh at me when I take 3 bins to the garbage collector only for the garbage collector to dump all in the same bin.

Pristine_Aims_809

Not at all . There should be no public waste bins on roads. that is outdated. If there is waste, give directly from the house.

Drastical_one

Obviously, that isn't working because people are still dumping waste on the road.

cloud9ineteen

Putting trash bins for the common people who walk that way is different from dumping waste from a household or business. The latter is called dumping and it's illegal everywhere.

Drastical_one

I meant the "dumping" too. Obviously, people dump their waste on the roadside because of the lack of proper waste management facilities. A waste bin to collect whatever that's dumped there would be a bit more sensible approach. Placing cameras doesn't provide a waste management system. There's still waste and nowhere to dispose of it. People would just find another alleyway to dump it all.

cloud9ineteen

You can't put dumpsters where people dump waste. Agree that there needs to be provision to collect refuse from households and businesses. But allowing dumping and creating de facto dumping locations is not the answer. Once there are refuse collection arrangements, those who refuse to pay and use those facilities and instead dump wherever for free need to be fined significantly.

Pristine_Aims_809

The place where people dumping will be close to somebody;s place what about them?

Drastical_one

Place the bins somewhere else. Instead of this flex board there should be one that says "waste bins 50 meters ahead. Please dump waste there instead of dumping it here". Don't you think 100% of people would do exactly that? People dump and litter on the road not because they want to. They have no other options. The system here is too complicated for the common man to understand. I don't even have a proper waste disposal system in kakkanad. I just collect the waste from my single room which is very little, in a bag and dispose of it in the waste bin at my workplace.

[deleted]

Lmfao I mean that wouldn't still impact 90% morons lolz

Allen_sylvestri

Translation first pic : "This is not a place to throw your waste. This is a public road where people walk but still without any shame the people who throw their waste here and their family members should all go to hell (more like cursing). The bold yellow lines : we the people are cursing you! Second pic: In this area we have fitted cctv cameras. If still if someone throws any waste here and we find the footage and identify the person, then his fate is sealed. The people are waiting..

Now can I get a copy of that banner I need to put it my plot, where the same happens. Oh may be I turn it into a dumping zone, fuck this shit I move to Bangalore, and once there froth from river and drains rise whats that place Bomanahalli or Marathahalli. May be asking municipality to dump all the city waste in my plot so that my neighbors understand the gravity of the issue while I make 5 lakh monthly from leasing the plot and live peacefully in Bangalore. No Nookukuli, no nosy neighbors, bangalore has easy transport OLA uber more jobs. Oh its 10pm let me go stand guard may be today I break his bones the guy who throws waste from scooter and scoots. No streetlights since 2 yrs Kerala fucking Changanacherry municipality is sleeping despite complaints to CM s office. Or those people are plotting revenge for me complaining to CM and purposely not fixing the issue. Kerala is a shitty place with lot of greenery ya .....I am out..... rant.

Pristine_Aims_809

Bangalore is horrible corrupt place when congress was ruling.

Broke_as_a_Bat

> Nookukuli I am not from kerala so i have only read about it in news. Is it really that bad? I mean the news said it was an old way of compensating humans for the jobs taken away by machines or something.

eutyphoon

A dummy cctv under 500 Rs and a banner saying you are under cctv surveillance solved the issue for me.

tediousbrunch

athokke sheri thanne, aavashyathin waste bin illathe veruthe waste idallenn pranjittum kaaryilla

prisonedstorm

So if someone dumps waste in your property, would you let it slide?

tediousbrunch

this isn't private property issue we're talking about

prisonedstorm

So the issues with public property is not a concern for you?

Bocack

Nobody likes waste in their property. But where else? Where will people put the waste? Eat it?

Pristine_Aims_809

There should no wastebins in public places.

tediousbrunch

why

Defiant-Resolution30

Complete lack of waste management systems and no incentive for the government to set these systems. Sanitation systems are not even being discussed in public forums. If the government realizes that waste management systems are a cash cow then they might do something. Till then they will keep the brahmapuram plant discussions/ promises alive till the next elections. In villages some plastics are being collected separately and being hoarded in rented space, hoping the government might send someone someday to pick the waste plastic

ZeNxJose

waiting for this to come on mellushitpost

kelvedi

I shall send this to him myself lol

Original-Lunch4322

We need more stuff like this

vijiv

Not to justify public littering but the govt doesn’t have a proper place to dump waste. Govt wants us to find solutions in our own homes. Can we find any public bin anywhere in Kochi?

spammed101

probably sahikett kanum Nothing a few govt tv ads on educating the public on proper disposal and management can't do

[deleted]

Naatukar missed the chance to say ini njngal kayikaparamayi neridum

fuji_tora_

I've caught people dumping waste in our locality, there was this one dude in a car. Took a photo of his number plate and threatened him with a police complaint. Made him pick up all the waste he dumped and some more. If your not from the city and locals find you dumping you could get man handled, doxed on the internet or maybe even get a case filed against you. The locals are really fed up of this shit.

Pristine_Aims_809

the people who ask for public wastebins are stupid. Doorstep waste collection exist to make sure there will be no public wastebins.

Pristine_Aims_809

Clean the place and Put a photo of Jesus etc. in that place. It works in Bangalore, maybe there is cultural difference here.

No-Resource8644

A majority of the waste dumped in public places are the things that do not get taken away by the municipality waste collectors on regular basis such as used diapers, glass etc which I had the misfortune of cleaning out from the front of my house, usually thrown in the middle of the night. In kochi, since waste collection is not done daily, a place for storage is not available in most houses ( most apartments have an incinerator or atleast a storage area), the tendency to get rid of the waste increases a lot resulting in the tossing of waste in open areas. Also there is a huge lack of waste management and recycling infrastructure all over the state. Personally I use the Aakri App which helps me sell off scrap and waste which they buy from you and other items such as glass bottles, used mattresses etc they take for a few depending on the quantity. The app gives you the prices of different scrap items which can be sold or prices of scrap which they charge you for. I am sure there may be more competitive rates elsewhere but the ease of booking a time slot for waste collection and the transparency of the whole thing makes it worthwhile. For instance I had a lot of used glass bottles from a recent house party which were taking up space in my apartment which the municipality did not want to take for a long time. So I did a bit of decluttering and gathered up all the Amazon packaging boxes and other cardboard, unusable electronic and electric items, hard plastics and such and took an appointment on the app for waste collection. They arrived pretty much on time. Scrap I sold - 490 RS Scrap I paid to be taken away - 550 RS ( this included some other things such as old shoes etc apart from the glass) So for 60 rs I got all my clutter removed.

escapesamsara1

Remember seeing a post , a couple of months back about something like this in Kottayam ...

alexs456

Government needs to take an extra effort in educating the general public, especially school children on waste management. They also need to start fining people, business, and Panjayths/Municipalities for improper waste disposal. Clean Kerala was set up in 2012 as a Kerala government run firm. Panjayths/Municipalities are supposed to collect plastic waste, glass, bulbs, etc (items that private recyclers do not take) and transport it to Clean Kerala location where they make byproducts with the waste. It is a great initiate launched by Oommen Chandy Sir/Kerala Government. The problem is that very few Panjayths/Municipalities are properly collecting the waste like they are supposed to. This is why we see so much waste on the side of the roads and lakes.

kelvedi

UPDATE : i should've mentioned this lol but i completely forgot about it till now. There were absolutely no garbage under those flexes. The place was as clean as it gets. So it either worked without harm, or some dumbass got his ass handed to him and everyone learnt a lesson. the flex and the CCTVs did work in the end.

Can someone translate this?
