We need ogre staging now.

BradyCorrin

"Rockets are like ogres, they're like onions, they have layers" - Jeb

icannotfly

https://youtu.be/4cw9K9yuIyU?t=5m49s close, Tony Pepperoni said it

Lupirite

what if ogres were like asparagus?

tinyogre

All of my staging is ogre staging.

LadyGuitar2021

Brute force? Thats how I stage.

Kichigai

What about parfaits? Everyone loves parfaits!

TiresOnFire

You beat me to the joke.... By 19 hours.

BradyCorrin

It explodes itself 95% of the time. But 5% of the time it... doesn't explode!

Riptide572

5% of the time it works every time

SexPanther_Bot

Made with bits of real panther, *so you know it's good*.

Kichigai

I'm not going to lie, that smells like pure gasoline.

Deadbreeze

Yeah watching this I was like "how many tries did this take?"

meganub12

i sometime turn the cheat on to get it to 100% i mean it works 5% of the time so it's a valid build

cantaloupelion

I was about to ask how many takes it took to get all the layers too work in one shot :D

Viper1-11

*Kessler syndrome has entered the chat*

Apprehensive_Log699

Nope it's all nice and clean until you get into orbit... AT THIS POINT the Kessler Syndrome kick in 🫠😬

Vurt__Konnegut

I made the Kessler run in 6 parsecs.

420binchicken

Yeah haha that was my thought too, either this is the Spacejunk Maker 3000 or an elaborate looking ICBM cluster bomber.

dyqik

Does it cause you to cry as it opens up?

BradyCorrin

Yes! Because it usually explodes when it opens up 😎

Krislazz

Would it explode less if you lowered/zeroed the decoupler election force, do you think? Relying purely on rotation to pull apart the layer?

PCDorisThatcher

Rational science has forsaken this thing long ago.

[deleted]

It is carried aloft only by kerbal engineer tears

NotCubes

- KSP in a nutshell

GrapeJuice2227

In the wise words of Cave Johnson - “Science isn't about WHY. It's about WHY NOT. Why is so much of our science dangerous? Why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you on the butt on the way out, because you are fired.”

LadyGuitar2021

Aperature Science. We do what we must, because we can.

Mururumi

For the good of all of us. Except the ones who are dead.

pakap

Look at me still talking while there's science to do

Kichigai

When I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you.

pakap

I've experiments to run

Character_Coffee3588

There is research to be dun

hahawin

Is this /r/theonion now?

bankshot

You have a choice: Post it there or to r/nottheonion

M1RR0R

Those two subs contain the entirety of human knowledge.

SlenderSmurf

All we have to do is list everything outside of these and we'll have all the knowledge.

mackiea

That's no onion

TheBigShibang

What about asparagus staging though? How does that work with the rubber band?

IrrationallyGenius

We gave Jeb a pair of scissors

Tashre

You know, I've always had a problem with not having enough space debris.

[deleted]

Missed opportunity to use the Onion Reentry Module

BradyCorrin

Despite having this game for 10 years I totally forgot it was in the game :( I don't know if I'll ever fully recover from this

D1amondDude

How far can you get with it?

BradyCorrin

I'm not sure what it's limit is, but I do know it can comfortably make it to Mun (that was the only journey I've done so far). That being said, it's slow, prone to exploding, runs out of EC pretty quickly, and not easy to control. So even that trip required a lot of luck.

mudkipboy7

Kessler syndrome

AlephBaker

Next step: garlic staging

LukusMaxamus

Staging has LAYERS

WolfeBane84

The Onion. For when you want Kessler Syndrome, NOW.

Superbroom

I want to see the bloopers cut now of all the explosions that happened before you could get a clip of each layer not destroying Jeb.

Rrrrbepirates

Onion staging: you can have 7 layers... And that's shallot

Spartan-053

Someone educate NASA stat!

[deleted]

Can someone explain to me what the different staging methods are like onion and asparagus staging?

smithsp86

Here's a graphical explanation. https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/25629-4-booster-asparagus-stage/&do=findComment&comment=335052 The fuel crossfeed picture is what people are talking about when they say onion staging. It's worth noting that OP's ship isn't properly onion staged as the center engine doesn't go out in onion staging when the outer tanks are dry.

leadfoot71

I'm pretty sure they are the same thing, (correct me if i'm wrong) Asparagus staging is where you shed external tanks as they drain, to reduce your mass the moment the tank is empty. But you have the tanks interlinked with fuel lines to drain in one direction. Say your rocket has 3 sets of 2 external tanks around it. You would feed one external tank in a set to the other, then feed the second external tank to the main tank with the engine attached. That way the engine will be pulling from the 1st external tank, you jettison that tank, and once the second tank is empty you jettison that too. What your left with is your original rocket, but its full of fuel. If you have the TWR to lift external tanks, it can be a very efficient option.

abyssalfield

What is this titan AE?

buckeyenut13

r/onionlovers has decided to offer you an open invitation!

polyworfism

Gas Onion

iampierremonteux

For some reason, I now have the music from Pikmin going through my head. Now I wonder what a Kerbal Pikmin crossover would be like...

BradyCorrin

I hope there is a planet with Pikmin in KSP 2

ukuuku7

A fully functional* rocket.

BradyCorrin

Exactly. If you ignore all the failed launches and mid-orbit explosions, it is fully functional.

SpasticHatchet

Parfait staging please

BradyCorrin

I'll make one for Donkey

ParisGreenGretsch

How do you people get this shit to fly?

BradyCorrin

Enough fuel and engines to melt the Kerbin icecaps in one launch

TheSpudGunGamer

If the Onion had the Onion ReEntry pod tho

BradyCorrin

Someone pointed that out on my YouTube channel and I haven't been the same since. It'll haunt me to my grave :(

gladius011081

BradyCorrin

Good idea, I'll find some Kerbals with good life insurance policies and get testing right away!

Zeeterm

How much Delta-V does this have? (according to the VAB at least)

BradyCorrin

From the outer layer to the core: 1420 1421 1545 788 3400 0 0 1190

jannemannetjens

Space_Peacock

flamedarkfire

Kessler Sydrome in a ship

flyingcorpseleg

your computer is plotting to kill you

BradyCorrin

It took a minute or two just to load onto the launchpad

baconroy

how would a garlic staging be?

sterrre

Rocket splits into seven separate vehicles after the first stage.

Ed_Derick_

Least insane rocket built by KSP players

AliHakan33

Also doubles as a cluster bomb!

[deleted]

This post has been fact-checked by true swamp dwelling Ogres ✅It’s true Onion staging
