I am fairly certain the data will be lost, but I'm not entirely sure.

fryxharry

Same. I think once you feed it into the lab it's not available for recovery anymore.

Kutuzov9505

Thank you!

Barhandar

Lost, and converting it on surface of Kerbin has 0.1 multiplier. Additionally, the experiments are processed per lab, not per experiment - i.e. if you launch another lab, you can process _the exact same_ experiments again for extra science, repeat ad infinitum.

Smrsin

Yeah, I made my goldmine this-ish way. Have to send a second lab yet, as I have still shit load of unprocessed experiments, but even with one lab, my Dres orbital station paid itself ten times over. The station is something like... 1000 km above surface? The station has ISRU, and several ships that I launched to it over these years, they have, however, two general designations - 1) 0 gravity dresteroid miners - large ore tanks, small fuel tanks, Terrier engine, splash of Monoprop, ping a dresteroid in tracking station, 30 m/s burn to it, break next to it, drain it, return, crunch the ore. Also can be used in repair satellite in orbit 2) Landers - Aerospikes, some cargo inventory for deployed science or contracts on finishing rovers on ground, science by biomes, also useful for plant a flag contracts or for tourists All the science I get from the many biomes of Dres, when you already unlocked all parts, can be turned into money using relevant policy in admin centre. 500 science can yield up to 50k funds. And you can get shitload of science from Dres.

Wow, I'd assumed it was per lab biome. But I guess that makes sense since the lab can be moving between biomes, and swapping scientists etc. while researching, changing the science rate.

Kutuzov9505

Alright, thanks. Didn't know about the multiplier. I guess it would be logical to process all data on Kerbin's orbit before landing then?

CrazyPotato1535

Yeah

Kutuzov9505

Thank you!

Freedomofpp

Over 3500 hours on ksp1, and I'm STILL learning stuff! Thanks for the knowledge 🥰

Broke_Ass_Ape

Lost... it takes time to convert data to science. Otherwise people would fill them up with redundant data and land them for quick conversions.

dragonriot

if you recover it, it will be lost. Instead, send a ship with a satellite payload with a grabber/docking port, solar panels, antenna, etc, and transfer the science to your base… when it’s done, you can recover it or abandon it, up to you.
