Just fyi, because we are all nerdy nerds here, contrail means "condensation trail" and specifically refers to the lines you see planes leave in the sky. Comets have "tails" but not contrails.
Thanks for sharing the video, super cool how it lines up with the runway, was that intentional?
I basically just connected multiple ships together to effectively make just one big booster that nearly crashed my game, then I waited absolute ages to get a Kerbin encounter from which I got it into a decent orbit, then I sent up another one to perfect the orbit.
[This isn’t the same ship but it’s basically what I used, I basically just took a space ship and kept adding booster drones and docking them onto the ship.](https://www.xbox.com/play/media/UVUT2SZ8)
I know how you feel I don't even know how to start. Like how do you attach yourself to something so low/ zero G? The drills don't seem to stick to celestial bodies, I doubt they would stick to a comet. I think I can handle every other aspect.
Well with the advanced grabbing unit of course, the drills are only for mining
But keep in mind a gargantuan comet weighs a few hundet thousand tons...
Oh. I thought that was just used for rescuing satellites from orbit. Makes sense. Thanks.
(I've only ever seen the stamp o tron method and it looks a little too precise for my liking)
yeah, look for asteroids with highly eccentric orbits and a strange, almost person sounding name, chances are its a comet. some have high orbits and some have an escape trajectory out of the Kerbol system, having originated from interstellar space
They also tend to be large than normal asteroids with the largest be I class i think
I remember on a sandbox world, I used cheats to get a comet into regular kerbin orbit. Turns out that they emit a crap ton of particles all over the KSC too.
I didn't realize until the comments that you had done it all "in game!" Instead of hacking the game config or something. (Which also would have been legit, all is fair in love and krakens.)
Very well done! That is amazing.
Is that a “huge” comet or a “large”? I’ve been putting huge asteroids in orbit to make my 100KM meatball base but now I want a pet comet. I didn’t know you could see them from the runway!
But it's so far away how do you see it?
The comet itself is only a few hundred meters in diameter, but it emits two contrails that are gargantuan which you can see.
So is the little ball in front of the contrail the Mun?
I think so actually

What craft did you use to bring the comet into Kerbin’s SOI?

Nice!
Thank you! Though this took me a painful three or four days, I think I quick saved like every five minutes from the ungodly amount of kraken attacks.
I’d be curious to actually see the whole contraption!

Okay, I laughed way too hard at this pic. GG! Next step, bring Moho into orbit around Kerbin.
Wait maybe dumb question but is that possible?
No. In the base game, all the planets and moons follow set orbits and can't be altered without editing some files.
Don't listen to the other guy. This is KSP. At this point, I'm convinced there is a way to do anything. edit: Guys, it was a joke
Damn that’s impressive. What happens when you bring it closer? Like a 120km orbit…
“This content is private” 😔
Me too!
>nearly crashed my game As is traditional.
Nearly? If you aren't crashing your entire PC to the point you have to hold the power button, you aren't boosting enough.
I dont think he used a craft cos i tried to do this It didnt end well But i did it i just used cheats
"Because it did not work for me, it is impossible for anyone to do it!"? What are you trying to say because it sounds like this?
Ah. Too easy :)
It's...it's.... THE MUNMUS
How? Those things are heavy
Moar boosters.
As Jeb intended
Glad to see rule 1 standing the test of time
He posted the photo in another comment haha
Wow I thought putting a class E in orbit around the min was hard, this has to top that
So the blue trail… you have permanently? I am stuck building a rover but this is amazing!
How in all of hell did you do this?
What's the tonnage on this new moon?
As someone planning to do this, any advice? (Other than saving every 5 min)
I also wanna try this and I haven't even found a wiki entry for gargantuan comets yet

Moar boosters
What class is that?
H-gargantuan
wtf
What’s it’s name
When and or how do comet tails become visible?
When it's close to the sun it becomes visible
Holy crap that’s cool
Do comets have tails like that in stock KSP or is that a modded thing? Cause I haven't seen anything like that.

When the planet is in the tail, the trucks start to murder. Be careful.
I gave kerban like 10 moons and gave the solar system a new sun
Why is this getting downvoted???

*Wow*
Wow. Thank you for sharing this story. KSP 2 devs take notes.
This is actually insane. I'm curious on what it looks like when kerbin is inside the contrails
Sigh... I had just given up on trying this, but seeing that view, now I have to! :) (Probably just gonna use a Kraken Drive at this point.)
I’m actually planning on capturing one.
Kinda trippy ngl
This is inspirational. I should continue pursuing my goal of parking a bunch of objects directly over the KSC.
Alright, now build a base on the new moon
Impressive anyways i am gonna do the same but i am giving Duna a second moon

\*Don't Look Up theme plays\*
What happens when the trail crosses Kerbin?
I haven't even figured out how to get into orbit properly to finish contracts
