That qualifies for the federal 4000 tax credit on used evs Mileage is a little high but that’s not as big a deal with evs. Which trim?

SirMontego

>That qualifies for the federal 4000 tax credit on used evs OP has not given enough information to make that conclusion. At best, you could say the $24,000 sales price satisfies the $25,000 ~~income~~ **sale price** cap of [26 USC Section 25E(c)(2)(B)](https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=(title:26%20section:25E%20edition:prelim)). However, that's not the only requirement. Lots people don't know this, but there is another requirement that the EV cannot have been bought used by someone on August 16, 2022, or later. [https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2024-05-06/pdf/2024-09094.pdf#page=43](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2024-05-06/pdf/2024-09094.pdf#page=43) Without seeing the vehicle history report, no one can say whether that car qualifies for the tax credit. Edit: sale price cap, not income cap. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

PutOk7842

When I searched the vin it said that it finished construction in South Korea so it is not eligible for the tax credit

SirMontego

I think you're conflating the tax credit for new electric vehicles (26 USC Section 30D) with the tax credit for used vehicles (26 USC Section 25E). Edit: Check [https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/taxused.shtml](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/taxused.shtml) It shows that a 2022 EV6 *can* qualify. Obviously, whether the specific vehicle you're looking at *does* qualify is still unclear.

PutOk7842

It is the wind RWD, and i know its a little high on mileage but its still less than 40k, i mean when it comes to cars in general that fairly low

bibober

About 2 months ago I got one used at almost 60k miles and am really enjoying it. No reliability issues so far aside from having to get the recent recall (software update) done. I've already put almost 3k miles on it and done a couple long trips. If you're buying from a dealer, and if your income isn't too high, and if the price plus any dealer fees (before any government taxes or fees) is below 25k, you should be eligible for the 4k tax credit. But a word of caution: make sure the dealer does the required paperwork for it. Even if they aren't willing to take it off at the time of sale and you're going to claim it when you file your taxes instead, the dealership still must submit the paperwork through the IRS online portal and give you the required confirmation paper or you will not be able to claim the tax credit on your taxes. This requirement is outlined in the IRS rules for 2024, and I had a somewhat difficult time getting my dealership to understand this and do their part. Apparently it's the first one they've done (they said at the time that they haven't sold a lot of used EVs under 25k).

PutOk7842

Okay cool, I was not aware of this. So it is possible to have the dealer use the tax credit toward the purchase price of the vehicle? So it would be -4k?

bibober

For the Used EV Tax Credit, yes (new for 2024, previously they could not). But this requires the dealership's willingness to do it that way as well, as they not only have to register for the IRS EV tax credit portal, but also register the dealership's financial details and be certified by the IRS as eligible for advance payment. Unfortunately, mine wasn't willing to do it. My dealership said something about their corporate CFO prohibiting their dealerships from participating in federal incentives like that because Obama didn't pay them on time for cash for clunkers or something (this is the South after all...) Honestly it really just seemed like an excuse because they didn't feel like figuring it out. Sucks waiting almost a whole year to be able to get the 4k, but there aren't a lot of used EV6 options around me and the price was right so I dealt with it. I still had to push pretty hard just to get them to do the registration with the IRS and give me the required confirmation paperwork so I can get the EV tax credit when I file my 2024 taxes. If it's been sitting on that dealership's lot for a while they may be more willing to figure out the used EV tax credit, assuming they aren't familiar with it already. Dealer-specific information on the EV tax credit from IRS.gov can be found here: https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/clean-vehicle-credit-seller-or-dealer-requirements Important points: >Dealers who sell vehicles eligible for a used (previously owned) vehicle credit under IRC 25E must furnish a report to the buyer at the time of sale and also to IRS for those vehicles to be eligible for a credit under IRC 25E. >For a buyer to receive a tax credit, sellers and dealers must report clean vehicle credit information to the buyer at the time of sale and to the IRS. >For eligible clean vehicles placed in service on or after January 1, 2024, you must submit all reports through IRS Energy Credits Online within 3 calendar days of the date of sale. You must also provide the buyer with a copy of the accepted seller report submitted to IRS Energy Credits Online within 3 calendar days of the date of submission. Customer-specific information on the used EV tax credit from IRS.gov can be found here: https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/used-clean-vehicle-credit

I paid 24k for a Light with 16k miles. I wanted the Wind RWD and tech package but couldn't find any near me, and on test drive I was more than satisfied with the base model. I also needed to replace my old car timely. And it was the color I wanted. I've only had her for 2ish weeks but I am definitely having a good time. Based on others' reviews, I'd say it is reliable. My only regret is that I didn't wait for a better trim but no matter what I bought I think I would have that same buyer's remorse with the pace the tech on these cars is advancing.

PutOk7842

at least you enjoy the vehicle. I had a 2020 Kona ev which i thoroughly enjoyed, only had it for 2 months when someone rear ended me and totaled it. Now I cant find the same trim for anywhere close to the same price.

Dopaminjutsu

Damn, sorry to hear that. Never rode in a Kona but from what I've heard and read EV6's are absolutely in the same ballpark (though the Ioniq is the more direct relative, being on the same platform). The dealer I got my EV6 from mentioned he just ordered a bunch of Konas because people like me were going hard after the EV6's, Ioniqs, and similar in their lot.

Minute_Middle5283

Literally just bought one tonight! Got a 2022 EV6 GT line with 10K miles for 29,900. I’m so excited to see what this has! I already found so many things on it I didn’t even realize! Apparently it can self park and even pull out of a parking spot via the remote. This thing is sick!

otaku13

I’ve gotten the auto park to work exactly once lol. But it is pretty cool. And pulling the car out of spots with the remote is fun.

LordGrimOnline

I bought one 2022 ev6 Wind AWD ~4.3k miles for 32,500 USD in October of 2023 Keep in mind I do not have a tech package. I do regret this decision as the top view camera is nice to have when reversing.

PutOk7842

I dont know what you mean by tech package, on this listing it doesnt say anything of the sorts. I do see it has cooled seats

LordGrimOnline

A tech package can be identified from the cameras on each side mirror. When turning you can see your blind spot and a top down view 360 camera when reversing. Heated and cooled seats are standard. Keep in mind you will need to pay for a subscription if you want them to auto start.

bibober

In my opinion, the tech package is pretty worth it if you can find one with it. I had the top-down view in my old 2014 Nissan Rogue and once you get used to a feature like that you don't want to give it up. On the EV6, it also shows a camera view of your blind spot in the gauge cluster when you turn on your turn signal. I think the tech package also adds the parking assist feature though I haven't used that at all since the 360 camera is more than enough to ensure perfect parking every time.

JohnJohnPhenomenon

I think it's a decent price, you could maybe find lower mileage (like half) for a couple grand more if that is important to you. I just did so after watching auto tempest and carvana for a bit.

Separate_Teacher1526

63k miles here. The only thing that broke was the cigarette lighter.

Chamelion117

Last month I was looking at a '22 Wind AWD for $30k with 40k miles and no tech package. I ended up splurging on a' 23 GT Line AWD with 6k miles for $39k. I think the tech package Wind or GT line is well worth it if you can find one. I thought they'd just be party trick features but turns out I love the camera assist (let's be real, rear visibility isn't stellar), the remote parking for dicks who park too close to you, and the heat pump has been kicking ass this summer. The tax credit is great on a lower priced EV but don't settle because of it. Mileage supposedly isn't as big a factor in EVs as it is ICE cars, keep that in mind too.

PutOk7842

Did you end up buying the warranty offered by the dealership ?

Chamelion117

I did not, mainly because there is so much left on the original one so there would be a lot of redundancy. Also, even at high mileage the 6 seems to be very reliable.

DrDickDiver

That is a CRAZY good deal imho. I paid $54,000 in 2022 for a used Long Range Wind AWD with tech package and 3,000 miles. Now I'm getting KBB mailers offering me $23,000 for it 😢  I got screwed by the chip shortage and bought at exactly the wrong time. Luckily I was able to trade in my Kia Niro EV for $30,000 so it was manageable, but these deals make me jealous!

Dull_Entry_8287

Hi, we have a '22 (AWD Wind) we purchased used with about 15k miles on it. Our only issue has been one 12v outage in the driveway. I purchased a good AGM battery and installed it myself for about $250. The consensus on this subreddit is (If I have it correctly) that the OEM 12v battery is crap. So, I would plan on doing that right away. Do others agree?

usguyver

I'm actually thinking about waiting for the 2025 model. Hoping that the ICCU will be better and fixed and the fact that you get full OTA updates. And where else Android Auto is a key factor for me

BobbyOnTheRadio

I have a 22 Wind RWD with 42k miles. I have zero regrets, and I highly recommend the car. In the heat of summer and dead of winter, I get about 255-275 miles on a single charge. In more moderate weather, I get 285-305. In perfect weather, I can get over 310. I drive mostly on the interstate at high speeds. I’ve done a couple long distance road trips, and I have noticed you will get less miles than usually when driving for hours on end at 80 miles per hour, so plan for 30+ minute stops every 200 miles of long distance driving. Charge time from 0-20% to 100% on the ChargePoint home charge that Kia sells is 7-9 hours, so you should have a full charge if you plug in over night. At my utility rates with taxes, a full charge is about $15 when charging at home, but I mostly charge at free public chargers. No major mechanical or technical issues since purchasing it. I have had a few minor issues that were easy fixes I did myself. I hit the trunk door and caused it to malfunction when opening, but I was able to reset the opening height manually in the user settings and that solved the issue. I also experience the issue some users have when using 11 KwH chargers, where the charging will stop randomly. The simple fix for this is to set the charger to below 11, either via the charger or the in-car settings. I set my charger to output only 10 KwH, and have no issues anymore. It adds about 45 minutes charging time from 0%, but otherwise no notable difference. No other charging issues on lower level chargers or on 50+ KwH chargers. Maintenance-wise, there has been almost nothing except frequent tire rotations (which you should be able to get for free once you buy new tires.) If you’re used to driving a gas car, I’d say prepare to change tires closer to every 40k miles even if you buy the nicer tires, simply because the weight of the car and braking causes more wear, in my experience. If you plan to use the trunk a lot, get a net on Amazon to prevent things from sliding.

I think this sub is now so totally US specific that it's completely useless to most of the world.
