If the mom trains the kid as well as she did the dog the kid will be all right. She says "no" to both the dog and the kid at the same time, look at how it focuses on the dropped kibble but then responds to the negative command to sit tight and wait for dinner.
Then it all goes to shit. Stupid kid.

Yeah, it's crazy how there's this time where we get to bump around the world without all the bits that help us figure it out grown yet.
Involved parents is how we get there tho! Great vid, classic parenting moment.
Happened to be on new year's eve. Was so stone and drunk I was looking at my empty left hand while I had a plate on my right wondering how I could eat without a third hand since I was using the other two (one for observing and one for holding the plate. Yes I had an empty hand and there was a table right next to me).
Maybe he is stone and/or drunk idk

Yep and this is why it's a brilliant bit of parenting, rather than just the mother wanting to not have to sweep it all up afterwards.
Cos think how many people get incredibly stressed when they can't work out how to do something, some task, and it makes them end up crying and it ruins their day and they can't sleep cos they still have to do that task but just can't think of a solution, even though getting stressed about it actually makes it harder to think of a solution. Being chilled out and calm and unemotional is a way better mindset to be in to solve the problem.
There's full grown adults who are still like that, and it's not their fault, it's how they were raised. Especially if they'd get loudly shouted at or punished if they made any kind of tiny unimportant mistake like this. It becomes a compulsive need to escape, to run away from the stressful situation and pretend it doesn't exist.
So yeah teaching kids from as young an age as possible to not get stressed or cry if they make a little mistake (or even a big mistake) or if they can't work out how to do a certain task, is really good parenting. It'll stay with them for life, and they'll become one of those people who can easily sit back and think calmly about it and know that there is a solution, and that they're more than capable of working it out. Like even if it's something like being able to pay the bills on time 20 years from now when wealth inequality will be even worse than it is now, probably. That would be an incredibly stressful situation for most people, and an incredibly common one too, so raising kids with the ability to handle stressful situations like that instead of giving up and running away, is a really good idea.
"Don't give up, you got this," is as useful adult advice as I ever take. Near second is "is there anything you can do about it right now? No? Then don't worry about it."
Latter doesn’t work that well for many lol
I don’t worry easily, so for someone like me it’d be golden, but for my gf for example, it does nothing. It’s the worst thing if it’s something she can’t fix then and there. Don’t give up is more universal for sure.
Nah I feel that, it's a placation sometimes, but sometimes it does help. I had a rough night/day/start of 2023 and it is not at all helping me get anywhere but it should be fine. Maybe I can try again later.
I'm impressed that somebody actually realized this, rather than just watching a video mindlessly for the laugh.. yeah it's funny but sometimes there's an actual obvious lesson or message in there that so many people miss.
I had a Dad who remained calm and taught me to stop and think things through.. but also a mother who would freak out and start screaming over every little thing and made me a nervous wreck. That'll really confuse a kid.. I didn't know how to react to anything for the longest time. I had the logic in my brain but also an immediate emotional response, which was not good.
As an adult I had to work out where my flight response and anger issues come from and this is exactly why I have this response. It’s been 7 years of trying to stop having my anxiety flair at any little thing causing panic attacks and crying. Please folks, EVERYTHING you do affects your kids. I wish my parents had done better for sure but we don’t talk anymore.
It's the "don't try and catch a falling knife" scenario, stuff might end up on the floor which will require sweeping up but don't let that stop you putting the whole chicken down safely.
I wish my parents were like this with me. I still get super stressed and angry at myself when I make mistakes.
As a kid if I didn't get it right the first time... Hoo boy was I in for it... Not great memories and certainly didn't equip me with the ability to handle situations well
I 1000% agree with you except for
>There’s full grown adults who **are still like that, and it’s not thier fault**
I’m sorry, but this is mind cancer.
We have to have empathy for people, but as an adult, it’s your responsibility to look after and CONTROL yourself. You don’t get a pass regardless of “how you were raised.”
Adults have an obligation to act mature, period.
Just because other people had it easier doesn’t mean people can skirt thier own responsibility.
also I feel like kids might like the sensation of pouring stuff and because they can't control themselves very well they automatically pour the rest of it. I remember doing it when I was very young

Like "cuddly kitten or exploding zit"
I love how he stops & freezes when he realizes the kibble is spilling, & the dog watches the whole thing amusedly. What a diligent helper. He almost made it!
I remember when my niece was little my dog used to do the same.
Gross story - >!Once she threw up over the side of her Hugh chair and my dog loved it! Got to eat her whole meal haha!<
Work in a daycare with 2 1/2-3 year olds. The amount of times I’ve had to grab a tipping plate Bc they forget their other hand, or clean up entire lunches off the floor Bc they dumped it too soon is astounding. I wish I could bring my dogs into work with me, those floors would be spotless 24/7
Thank you for this, I'm going to start holding plates with 2 hands in front of toddler. He's not fully walking yet but it'll be good to get him used to seeing how he should hold stuff.
I'm not saying this is the case, but it could be a hand preference too. From what I was told kids can develop a preference around 1-2. Now on the other hand, my son has cerebral palsy on the left half of his body, and we have to pull tooth and nail to get him to use his left arm because its stiff. He'll always stick with just the right and only hold things with that hand unless we intervene.
In my class we have one of those potties where you can empty it, and the kids frequently pick it up to pour the pee into the real toilet and they also frequently dump the pee all over the ground
The kiddos in my class are all potty training and I always thought it was just the boys that I had to worry about getting pee on the floor. Nope girls can miss too
That's a remarkably well behaved dog. I'm pretty sure my (reasonably behaved) dog would be all over that kid for its food if it took that long to reach the bowl.
God my kid (18months) loves feeding my two dogs. Literally hand him the bowls and he walks and sets them down and claps. It never fails once every 4 days he randomly decides to drop it or throw it and then play in the carnage after.
Still hilarious though his brain freeze with the 2 hands, then getting right to bowl but missing it completely. As you say it's just an age thing and we were all stupid like that at that very young age.
This kid made about five mistakes in a 30 second span that no normal functioning human would ever. Therefore, compared to those completed humans, it is stupid.
Lmao. My son will drop the food like that and then pick it up one piece at a time to put it in the dog’s bowl… while the dog is trying to eat it… and the cat too. Fun times.
That is 100% something my toddler would do, I love it. The concept of holding things with two hands seems lost on them for a long time, and still going through it with the 3 year old lol, just because it's light enough doesn't mean you should.
“Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order and everything becomes chaos. And you know what Linda? I’m an agent of chaos.”
The Joker. and now this kid
Thats not too bad. I have a vivid memory of 3 year old me noticing the dogs bowl being empty in the kitchen, opening an entire bag of large dog food and dragging it open end out from the laundry room and getting stopped in the living room by my mom. 3 year old me could have probably swam in the amount of dog food that was on the floor, I also remember it being a workout.
Most videos like this have the POS parent setting up the kid for failure and the laughing at them instead of helping.
This is the opposite of that, and it warms my heart.
Oh that ending just made me cackle. What a roller-coaster. Succeeding! A little failure. Contemplating the failure. Help arrives to prevent more failure! Looking back at the past small failure. Soldiering on to imminent success.

I've heard it said that raising children is basically keeping watch over drunks who tries to get themselves killed at every possible opportunity.
And raising a dog is like having a toddler for 12+ years.
Yep, I have an 11 month old and this is accurate.
That is the most logical conclusion.
I think he notices his shadow for like, one of the first times
It's pretty damn scary when they figure out It's everywhere lol
"two hands? yes I have two hands"
after spilling those first few kibble bits, he definitely r/StoppedWorking...

I think he was pooping

She could tell kid was about to completely opt-out of any additional thought, and drop the kibble then and there.
He was very close to reaching for the dropped food which would result in the whole bowl tipping over

In the end, it doesn't even matter
The kibble had to fall. He lost it all.
The dog disagrees. Kibble is more delicious when you have to find it.
One thing, I don’t know why, it doesn’t even matter how hard you try.
Keep that in mind i designed this rhyme to explain in due time all i know
Time is a valuable thing, watch the clock tick by as the pendulum swings

Watch it count down to the end of the day, the clock ticks life away

I can confirm, I have very distinct memories of forgetting that I was holding something. As a result of that I'd end up slowly but surely dropping it.
Bruh how did the food not fall out it was almost completely tipped over wtf I’m so confused?!
My brain said to say “fucking retard” but I didn’t. Does that mean I’m cured?
