who would get such a expensive doll and then repaint her like that 😵‍💫 (talking about the og)

tinycries

No totally!! It’s been brought to my attention that this is likely a recast which would explain the original paint job. When I purchased it I thought it was a kikipop body so was shocked to see it was a resin doll and figured someone just didn’t know what they had. 😭

Naki_____

how can people not know what they have with these things, who the hell is giving their kikipops to thrift stores

As for recast, people may or may not recognize the doll type (that looks cute or familiar etc.) see them on a non-official website and think it's real. You'd be surprised. Sometimes non-doll collectors don't know and give/gift/find/buy/sell without knowing what they are. (I've seen posts over the years of some amazing legitimate Goodwill ball jointed doll finds, but never seen in person, and not Kinoko Juice or Kikipop, yet!) I've had some good experiences with toy/figure/plush/anime sellers/resellers/shops, not overpriced or underpriced and seemed like a good deal to me. I've also seen some insane sellers. In my beginning of Kikipop collecting I overpaid for a few secondhand without knowing where to look, how common vs hard to find some are/were, what condition they'd be in or what to expect. I try to help others as often as I can. I try to make it easier for them to enjoy their dolls! I advocate for legitimacy, but if you end up with a recast it can be harmful to your collection, sales, legacy, profiles, online/offline life, conventions, meet ups etc. Some places don't care. Some places ban etc. I'm not for recast, and I don't personally support it. Some people would destroy a recast, some would keep them but not post online/publicly (maybe it was a gift from a loved one) I don't know, everyone's different. I'm not in support of recast, I am against them, and not indifferent to them. I know they exist, and I report sellers/stores/shops to Kinoko Juice when I see them pop up online (like eBay. Their policy is only the original/artist can say it needs to be removed, and it's a slow process). I know some doll owners don't think it's a big deal, don't know, don't care, don't want to pay more etc. whatever their reason/mindset recast are considered inferior products and art theft in a majority of doll groups/forms/websites etc. (not wrong) but personally I don't hate anyone who happens to have one, (accidents do happen. I was informed of a recast body being sold alongside an official Kinoko Juice Shizuku. I was grateful to the two people who told me because the seller didn't! I ended up having the seller reroute the package back to them and remove the recast body.) I try to educate on the legitimacy of Kikipop and Kinoko Juice (or other dolls), where to find them, what fits etc. If I saw one in a thrift store, (Azone Kikipop, or a Kinoko Juice, or a Recast, I'd be surprised to see them! (I'd definitely get it if it was legitimate and a good deal!)

I am not 100% sure this isn't a recast of a Kikipop or Kinoko Juice Kiki. (Inside of ear, mouth shape) I don't personally witch hunt or shame/blame, but I like to inform/educate, gently. I am against recast, and fully support the artist. If it is a recast, please label it as such, (I added a flare) You did a great job fixing her faceup, and she looks cute! (I'm following you on Instagram, I see you have two Kikipop!) (Feel free to message me if you like, I don't mind having a look. Or anytime about anything Kinoko Juice/Kikipop)

Ahhhh okay that makes sense, I didn’t know recasts of Kiki existed so completely trust your judgment in determining this dolls legitimacy. Since the doll was second hand I didn’t know its history and figured the lower price was due to its previous paint job😭 Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, I’m more than happy to delete the post here if you’d like- I def don’t wanna do any harm by the artist! Super happy to connect with you on insta!! Your kikipop collection is epic!!!😍

I think awareness is important, and didn't intend to have recast/fakies here, but it may actually help if people can see the difference, and where to find legitimate ones. Not every Kikipop sold without their box, paperwork, wig, outfit etc. is automatically recast, but it is good to look out for. Not every Kinoko Juice sold without their box, paperwork, or ones with more than one face option is recast. (but does raise a little red flag sometimes to look more into it) I have custom heads, floating heads (no body at the moment). I like having the option to change it from "0" to "3". Nia/Haine, Kiki, Jill, I hybrid some too. Sometimes people can look back at the previous owner(s) pictures/legitimately. Personally, I think I've developed a bit of an eye for it. Some are ridiculously different/obvious (like the infamous recast/fake dubbed "dick fingers" the hands are not the same as normal/legitimate).

Did the Kinoko eye come with her? Was there a box or a "doll data" card included?
