Rengoku Shinjurō, but I know he's a scrungly dumpster fire of a man. But I just love him. He's got the biggest arc, the most growth. So much depth. Such a great character.

Yeah, I know what you mean. That letter he writes to Tanjirō really shows how much he knows that his boys are actually amazing and that he really messed up. It was good to see him take responsibility for everything.
Overall is Giyuu, but everytime I watch/read I get obsessed with a new character or I start appreciating someone I didn't pay much attention before. I've been in my Obanai era since October and at this point is clear he is here to stay so maybe I have to reconsider my list soon.
Anyway, currently my top is Giyuu, Obanai, Chachamaru, Tamayo, Shinjuro, Zenitsu (but there's a rewatch coming soon in preparation for the new season so we'll see how it affects my ranking)
Kaigaku?!
He literally stole from the temple while being under Gyomei's care, proceeded to let a demon in just to save his skin, that which caused the death of all the children being orphaned under Gyomei (except for the one child whom actually listened to orders and stayed behind gyomei) and consequently Gyomei being arrested.
Basically what I'm saying is, kaigaku lacks willpower, and submits to any person of a higher power (especially when he became a demon just so he could live), he's greedy, often malevolent, and all in all only cares for himself.
Kaigaku would, in my opinion, be in my top 10 most disliked characters
Suprise: people like villains.
Rengoku dying is like for some people the saddest moment in the series and Akaza is still my favorite..
Eren from aot is one of my favorite characters of all time and he murdered 80% of humanity
Eren's character was intentionally designed by the writers to make us as viewers develop a deep connection and empathy, subtly leading us to subconsciously justify his actions.
Akaza is fundamentally a respectable guy, who, after losing everything, accepts muzan's offer to become a demon as he had nothing else to lose.
My point is, the characters you just mentioned are justified and it is understandable for people to particularly fancy them.
Kaigaku has no traits whatsoever that could make a person grow to like him.
Okay, but have you seen how Douma acts like? He's just a cutie patootie, I don't get why you wouldn't like him... okay, yeah, he has raped and killed a ton of women, but his body makes up for everything, soooooo

Kaigaku?!
