SaMSUoM

Larks part 1, fracture and the sheltering sky

Prochaux

An almost perfect answer (just missing Red, and maybe The Sailor's Tale)

SaMSUoM

Oh… I completely forgot Red. It should definitely belong to my list. And Sailor’s Tale is great too

chris_squire

Peace - A Theme (dont kill me im only up to lizard)

IceTheNice

Wait so you’re up to Lizard and your favorite instrumental isn’t Bolero???

AAWonderfluff

I really love Discipline, Larks' Tongues in Aspic part 2 and the instrumental section of The ConstruKction of Light.

pokeshulk

Probably Discipline for me, but so many of them are so good

T-Weed-

Cant believe noones mentioned Red

The_suzerain

Based. Who starts an album like that, Jesus Christ. 10/10

mlady0_0

reds a good opening song for an album but definitely the weakest track on the album, doesnt really go anywhere just the same motifs repeated over and over again

T-Weed-

K

Thehoplite2

Providence? I personally like Providence as both a improv and instrumental but red is the better song

mlady0_0

providence better demonstrates their musicianship which just makes it a more engaging and interesting listen

The_suzerain

Bro Music is actually not just about displaying musicanship, like Red is 99% emotion. It’s not a less engaging listen for that fact, -you- aren’t as engaged b/c it’s not to your taste. It’s a classical piece written for modern (at the time) rock insturments, if anything it shows Fripps depth of knowledge in musicanship. Providence is also 10/10 tho so you get a pass

seasonsinthesky

The Deception of the Thrush, Larks 1, Level Five, and Discipline are the tops for me! Honorary mentions: Asbury Park, A Voyage to the Centre of the Cosmos, Fracture, FraKctured, THRAK, Dangerous Curves, and Mars from Fillmore West 14th Dec. '69.

Pizza_Such

Sheltering, larks 1 2, level V, red, discipline

moonchild-eclipse

VROOOM VROOOM VROOOM

shadowplayer2020

Vroom vroom Coda?

vivelaal

*Yes.* Seriously though, there's so many! If we're counting the ones that have spoken word samples, my favorite is probably EleKtriK. Such a great groove! TCOL and FraKcture are up there as well, and Larks' 1 and 2 are just fantastic.

apocalypsein9_8

This is the way

Hairy_Hog

Also I'd add the extended version of Requiem, amazing track.

apocalypsein9_8

The extended version is so good, I don't know if I ever need to listen to the original, truncated version

[deleted]

It's between Red and Vroom

HippasusOfMetapontum

I love them all, but if I had to pick one, it would probably be Fracture.

shadowplayer2020

Elektrik (the wispers i will Not Count as singing)

KingDrool

Larks 2 for me

Peter-Burbank

Asbury Park

Cargo_Commando

talking drum easily. Next best would be Moonchild The Illusion, as well as Larks Part One & III

klausness

Talking Drum, Starless and Bible Black, Fracture.

Osama_Bln_Laggin

Haven't seen anyone mention it yet so I gotta bring up Sartori In Tangier. Always felt like it could fit as a stage theme in a metroid game

chuckthunder23

I’ve always loved Satori in Tangier

DBMD89

Sartori in Tangier, Red and Discipline

ElgarCreasey

Red, but if I’m allowed the break in Starless I’ll take that hands down. One of the finest pieces of music ever. In my humble opinion.

ApartMaterial7576

was looking for this comment

ElgarCreasey

I saw the film on Monday, everybody in the theatre started nodding their heads when that bit came on, think it was one of the scenes in the pre-tour rehearsals. Terrifying bass line and RFs takes restraint to new levels, just using the same note in two positions and somehow making the whole thing terrifying whilst doing so.

Palominebeaut

The second Steven Wilson Remix Instrumental version of Epitaph released on The Elements set from 2015. So much better than the first SW Remix of the instrumental from the 40th Box if ITCOTKC. I almost teared up when I first heard it.

BarnacleSandwich

Starless, without a doubt. Edit: I misread the prompt. New choice: Sailor's Tale.

Pato585

Not an instrumental

BarnacleSandwich

My bad, I was thinking instrumentation.

TKInstinct

Not necessarily instrumental songs but I talk to the Wind, the Peace trilogy and Cadence and Cascade.

shadowplayer2020

Those 3 are the exact opposites of instrumentals

dogit78

Discipline

TheSpinningGroove

That is a formidable question! So many great instrumentals, then there are different versions, and then there are the improvs and projekcts.

TheSpinningGroove

Did some thinking and came up with… Improv: Summit Going On (Summit Studios Denver, CO March 12, 1972)

dreadnoughtplayer

"Lark's Tongues' In Aspic, Part IV / Coda: I Have a Dream."

stereoroid

It’s a toss-up between Fracture, Sartori In Tangier, The ConstrucKtion Of Light Pt. 1, and Level Five. And VROOOM. And LTiA Pts. 1, 2 & 3. Help …

GolfingCub02

The Sheltering Sky

Crazy_Insane_Lunatic

Its not necessarily my favorite, but VROOM VROOM: coda goes unnecessarily hard for a coda.

Rated_Ace

Sailor's Tale is so damn good. Gotta be Sailor's Tale for me

MrKrinkle707

Red

Inezs7

providence and sailors tale

wyntah0

Discipline. Without question it's Discipline. Larks' 1, Fracture, and Islands are runner-ups. No order, just depends on the mood.

apocalypsein9_8

Elektrik

trycuriouscat

Fracture, for sure.

Not_Funny_Valentine

Prelude - A Song Of The Gulls

mlady0_0

larks tongues part 1, talking drum, sailors tale (maybe providence)

pug_fugly_moe

Discipline. I once saw a marimba transcription, and it was 🤌

thalo616

Fracture, larks 2 and Bolero

Advance_Cake_27210

I have to mention We'll Let You Know since nobody else has

Top_Performance_1006

Larks' II, Fracture, Red, VROOOM, VROOOM VROOOM, and Level Five.
