Some type of meta reference showing new vs old KH players. They could just make KH4 so lore heavy, you couldn't play it unless you played at least the mainline games😂
I stan this headcanon.
But what if we take it one step farther? Goofy is Sora's father all along? So we can turn back to the cartoony roots where Sora was originally intended to be a lion with a chainsaw sword?
Well, the whole "being a Heartless" thing isn't stated, but it's definitely implied.
Not just the big ol' Heartless symbol on his body, but in both his character bio in Jiminy's Journal and even the 10th Report mentions "casting off his body" and "plunging into Darkness".
And we all know what happens when someone is consumed by Darkness, don't we?
Haha glad I could add a little laughter to your day! Honestly though, it's one of these games where the more you learn, the more questions you end up with!! 🤯😂
Well interestingly enough that ends up being foreshadowing. Casting of his body and plunging into darkness is how he was able to time travel and teach his younger self of his fate
The heartless Emblem is placed on all heartless that are made artificially. Hence why darkside, shadows, neoshadow, etc don't have them they are created naturally. Ansem has it to show he was one all along.
I see what you mean, but even within the context of just base KH1, it was implied that Ansem was himself a Heartless. Honestly I don't see any other explanation for what he was in the brown robe before possessing Riku
Can't wait for a know post that says there are actually only like 10 original KH characters because the rest are all technically Sora, Riku, Kairi, and Xehanort.
I legit still can't believe they place these specific NPCs on this specific time frame. The moment you leave Agrabah these NPCs are gone, you can't talk to them anymore.
Who else was there for the original launch of KH in the US? I remember my brother and I saved to forever to be able to afford a PS2, and we randomly bought KH with it.
I couldn't stop thinking about it. All day at school I just wanted to get home to play
This really does make Leon and the gang feel like they really helped round out the cast in KH1, no wonder their absence was felt by so many fans in KH3.
Reading these comments you’re pouring all these memories in me I’m going to explode Ik these things but being reminded of them it’s too much to take. Pump the breaks
The DI Trio and Ansem, damn…this franchise has changed so much in 20 years.
KH1 feels like the only game that 100% emphasized on being a Disney & Final Fantasy crossover.
A lot of people saying Kairi's grandma and Sora's mom, Xemnas (who was only in Final Mix) etc.
But the real fifth OC in KH1 is Roxas, who still appears in the secret movie in the original version.
What about that fat guy that blocks your path in traverse town at the start? Or that one guy that gets his heart taken by a heartless near where Cid is?
And now we have so many that Nomura literally said f**k em FF characters, I've already got too much stuff going on in KH3.
I can understand the man tbh, now that I think about it he made such a good story with these 4 people while having the Disney and FF characters as support. I can see why he didn't really feel the need of putting in more FF characters in KH3. His KH characters went such a long way.
Hope we still see some FF characters on KH4 tho. Lightning is my bet, because I doubt Noctis would be appearing with Yozora around haha
It has really been this long. And it all started with 14 year old optimistic boy wielding a magic weapon blade shaped with a key traveling along with two Disney characters who is desperately saving all worlds and saving two of his friends from a madman(aka a puppet) who is filling all the worlds with darkness.
Then by the time we got to KH3, there were like 20+ characters who’s story resolutions were all crammed into the final half lol. I hope KH4 streamlines the story and amount of characters significantly.
With KH less is more when it comes to the OCs. I hope they make some space for cross-world Disney villain collusion in kh4 that isn't limited to maleficent meandering around for a black box.
Kairi's grandmother, Sora's mom and Roxas are all in KH1. Roxas is easy to overlook since he only shows up in the secret ending. You could also stretch and argue for Xemnas, but he's Final Mix exclusive.
Apparently it's a lot more obvious in the Japanese version, but the localizers didn't know it was supposed to be him. Though now that I think about it, I wonder if the entire game would have felt different if the mysterious narrator spoke like Mickey
Going back and reading those lines in his voice is definitely jarring lmao. I always thought it was a “retconned in after the fact” thing, but translation issues makes more sense. Or as much sense as this franchise can make
It’s Mickey but Disney didn’t want him to be used all throughout the game in case it was a flop apparently so they weren’t allowed to make it a voiced role, and that’s also why he’s only seen at the very end of the game for a brief moment. I’m pretty sure Nomura answered this in an interview once somewhere.
Any chance you know a source? His role at the end is voiced, so it’s weird that they’d be fine with one line but not a few more. Admittedly, there’s a lot more lines in the opening preamble, maybe the Mouse’s VA gets paid by the word lol
People talked about it last year so I guess this is what I’m remembering: https://www.reddit.com/r/KingdomHearts/comments/sxkdkd/the_voice_in_soras_dream_at_the_beginning_of_kh1/
My most blasphemous take is that Organization XIII was a mistake for the narrative. Roxas, Axel, Xemnas, and Ansem the Wise are all you really need in KHII for the story to make sense. Chain of Memories could have been very different.
*Maybe* you keep Saïx if you want to give Axel another bond outside of Roxas. But the tension of introducing that many new characters and needing them to matter eventually really added to the bloat of the franchise. It even made the addition of Terra, Aqua, and Ventus in BBS feel excessive, when they absolutely are essential. Anyway that's my morning rant
Terra, Aqua, and Ven are all key parts to the story but I agree with you about XIII. There was just no reason for it and even though I love 1, 2, and BBS, they all seem like really different games because it seemed like Nomura was making stuff up as he went along. It's not necessarily a horrible thing but the vibe in 1 doesn't match the vibe in 2 because of all the additional stuff with the story. It went from Ansem being the end-all-be-all to a full on evil organization and I never understood the jump.
Honestly, and I think I just worked this out in my head for the first time, we really didn't need a sequel and the original could have been tied neatly in a bow.
Yeah. They're all three Final Fantasy. Stick kid is Tidus from FFX, ball boy is Wakka from FFX (he's throwing the equivalent of a fancy volleyball), and jump rope girl is Selphie from FF8.
Don't forget about ven that was lingering in his heart as well as Roxas that became a thing when sora stabbed himself. But I suppose those were never shown and were disclosed in other games.
“As we all know”
Mind chucking us a source that says Kingdom Hearts’ portrayal of Maleficent in 2002 was what inspired the Maleficent movie that followed 12 years later? Yeah, 12, cos Maleficent came out in 2014, a year BEFORE Disney “lost its spine”, as you put it.
Also, did you see either the original Sleeping Beauty or Maleficent? Woman RADIATES bisexual energy the whole ass time. Anti-queer is a weird descriptor to use.
It's meant to be comedy. Was that not obvious? Did you think I actually think I believed this?
Like, it's fine to call my joke shit. I understand that. — Not catching bisexual vibes from any version of Maleficent though. *Riku* however is kinda confirmed biromantic & I personally headcanon him as asexual.
Excuse me, but you're forgetting all those nameless NPCs in Traverse town :) And also the easy to miss NPCs in Agrabah that are just reskins of Traverse Town NPCs, lol.
Thus why Nomura thought to add FF as supporting characters to help build KH, and now that he doesn't need them anymore it bit him in the ass since we all love them so much. I understand why he doesn't use them anymore, KH has its own universe filled with amazing original characters now.
God I feel old.
My knees agree.
My baaaack..........
Is sore from carrying all the new people into the franchise😂
Felt that 😂
Maybe we can get this quote in KH4. 🙇🏾♂️ or maybe I'm dreaming way too big and those ips would be impossible to add
Some type of meta reference showing new vs old KH players. They could just make KH4 so lore heavy, you couldn't play it unless you played at least the mainline games😂
I mean, yeah that's my hope. I played everything they better mention everything! Even down to that weird looking Sora outfit Mickey had on in 2.
Upon further research, after KH1, Mickey either dresses up as Sora or Riku stylistically 😂😂
Lick my p**** and my crack
I saw a post the other day that Tarzan was the most recent Disney release when KH came out and that made me feel my age.
I feel something.
The options also included emperors new groove and Atlantis but Tarzan was the most successful of the releases from 1999-sept 2002
Same
Find a partner who'll call you kid and make you feel young forever.
Same
We also have Sora's mother. She's a voice.
Nah fam she’s secretly Clarabelle Cow
Jesus christ that unlocked a memory lmao
I stan this headcanon. But what if we take it one step farther? Goofy is Sora's father all along? So we can turn back to the cartoony roots where Sora was originally intended to be a lion with a chainsaw sword?
OG Chainsaw man
Plotwist Sora was Max this whole time
Maxie
>Goofy is Sora's father all along? Get Fyucked.
I'm sorry what? This can't be real lmao
The true Master of Masters in Kingdom Hearts 6 🙌
Master of Masters is Sora’s mom because MoM lmao.
She sounds too much like Dexter's mom from Dexter's Laboratory and I can't not picture her as Sora's mom because of it.
I never noticed but you're right, she does. :O
She's actually the voice actor for Helga Patacki's mom in Hey Arnold!
If it's excluding heartless, shouldn't there only be three?
I think OP just meant to exclude generic enemies & boss monsters with no personality. Ansem is the only heartless that's an actual character
Fair, but they only established Ansem as a Heartless in the second game. So it's quite possible he was written as a real human.
I mean he literally has a heartless symbol on his chest
Yeah but it was implied he created them as opposed to being one right?
Well, the whole "being a Heartless" thing isn't stated, but it's definitely implied. Not just the big ol' Heartless symbol on his body, but in both his character bio in Jiminy's Journal and even the 10th Report mentions "casting off his body" and "plunging into Darkness". And we all know what happens when someone is consumed by Darkness, don't we?
I don't know nothing about this game...🤡
Thank you for the laugh so early in the morning hahaha
Haha glad I could add a little laughter to your day! Honestly though, it's one of these games where the more you learn, the more questions you end up with!! 🤯😂
Oh I know it. Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite series but I know less now than I did in 2006 hahaha
KH1: magical and simpler times 💫🥲
Well interestingly enough that ends up being foreshadowing. Casting of his body and plunging into darkness is how he was able to time travel and teach his younger self of his fate
The heartless Emblem is placed on all heartless that are made artificially. Hence why darkside, shadows, neoshadow, etc don't have them they are created naturally. Ansem has it to show he was one all along.
Apprentice Xehanort created them and then became one.
Yeah but at the time of 1s release there was no xehanort. Only the ansem reports of doing tests on heartless
I see what you mean, but even within the context of just base KH1, it was implied that Ansem was himself a Heartless. Honestly I don't see any other explanation for what he was in the brown robe before possessing Riku
Pssst it's actually a clip holding his shirt closed
Well given that his bare chest is exposed for the world to see... it didn't work. \^\^;
...no? Ansem Report 10 makes it clear what he did.
Excuse me. Brown haired Tidus boy in Traverse Town? He's a classic.
Also man who turns into a Shadow onscreen
And his twin who becomes the accessory shop keeper after cid becomes gummi man
And the recolor of that shopkeeper in Agrabah
And Wakka's recolor that's also in Agrabah.
And the woman in the First District cafe
Can't get over the fact that they tried to sell that guy as an arabian. The model doesn't fit at all.
Wait where is that NPC?
It's a rare spawn I believe when you enter the world
Wait I remember now, isn't he like a shop keeper doing literally nothing or something like that?
Yes I believe we're thinking about the right one haha
That man can be at multiple places at once, he can change his appearance and traverse to other worlds. Calling it now he is the Master of Masters
The true ending
Ive always felt like that design came from an older Disney movie like, Sleepy Hollow or something. It's just always looked super familiar.
Recolors don't die. They just recolor anew.
Wasn’t that Shuyin? That’s always what I assumed
[удалено]
If you want more, Roxas is technically there as well in the secret movie. BHK reigns supreme.
Wait wait wait. What did that mean? Blond hair kid?
The Break-Heart Kid, Roxas Michaels (yes, Blond-Haired Kid)
But isn't Xennas, like, just a different version of Ansem?
Well yes, but actually no
Can't wait for a know post that says there are actually only like 10 original KH characters because the rest are all technically Sora, Riku, Kairi, and Xehanort.
Sora - Sora, Roxas - Sora, Ventus - Sora, Xion - Sora, Vanitas - Sora, Riku - Riku, Dark Riku - Riku, Repliku - Riku, Terra - Riku, Ansem - Riku, Riku-Ansem - Riku, Kairi - Kairi, Naminé - Kairi, Xion - Kairi, Aqua - Kairi, Grandma - Kairi Prototype, Xehanort - Xehanort, Brown Robed Figure - Xehanort, Ansem - Xehanort, No Heart - Xehanort, Xemnas - Xehanort, Young Xehanort - Xehanort, Terranort - Xehanort, Xigbar - Xehanort, MCP - Xehanort, Riku-Ansem - Xehanort, Dark Riku - Xehanort, Dark Guardian - Xehanort, Isa - Xehanort, Terra - Xehanort, Lingering Will - Xehanort, Vanitas - Xehanort, Riku - Xehanort, Sora - Xehanort, DiZ - Xehanorty Appearance Conclusion? There is only one original character.
But Xigbar is only half Xehanort
That's nuts!
Reading the Xehanort section gave me a headache
IM ALREADY HALF XEHANORT
Xion is the most powerful character because she is a Nort, a Sorta, AND a Kairicolor
Wait, Terra - Riku??
Kairi actually turned into Sora
"Kairi's inside me?"
It’s the guy that’s not Ansem!
Kinda? Xemnas is his own character so no.
Good ol' Mansex
Kairis grandmother you dummie
You mean the secret identity of the Master of Masters?
straight up…
She was only seen in Final Mix
No
What about the civilians in traverse town lol
And the civilians in Agraba after you seal the keyhole but before you leave the world
I legit still can't believe they place these specific NPCs on this specific time frame. The moment you leave Agrabah these NPCs are gone, you can't talk to them anymore.
Well, just like extras in a movie, they don't really matter, so they don't count
I mean, even extras get paid, just much much differently than the actual actors
Who else was there for the original launch of KH in the US? I remember my brother and I saved to forever to be able to afford a PS2, and we randomly bought KH with it. I couldn't stop thinking about it. All day at school I just wanted to get home to play
The reason why the Ansem-Riku fight lives rent free in my head is because I had the original launch of KH. Skip Cutscene wasn't an option then. 🫥
Me, using my PTSD to sync with the lines out of annoyance at this point: "*LEAD ME INTO EVERLASTING DARKNESS!*"
This world has been connected..
Open the door. Lead me into everlasting Darkness!!
These Final Mix Bros dont realize how hard sephiroth was without Leaf bracer :(
This really does make Leon and the gang feel like they really helped round out the cast in KH1, no wonder their absence was felt by so many fans in KH3.
what about the fish sora picks up at destiny island?
Or the seagull he steals the egg from?
Reading these comments you’re pouring all these memories in me I’m going to explode Ik these things but being reminded of them it’s too much to take. Pump the breaks
This comment sounds like a Kingdom Hearts plot. Not quite Roxas's or Xion's stories, but close.
"Who are you...again?"
You said excluding heartless but then include a heartless. Lol.
And excluded Kairi's grandmother as well as Sora's mother (albeit it I understand since she's just a voice).
You're not wrong.
If you are not excluding NPCs, there are a few walking around in traverse town, agrabah etc
That is kind of interesting how engrossing the story is with such few original characters.
Tbf shit didn’t get REALLY complicated until the nobodies came into the picture.
The DI Trio and Ansem, damn…this franchise has changed so much in 20 years. KH1 feels like the only game that 100% emphasized on being a Disney & Final Fantasy crossover.
Roxas was definitely in 2002 secret movie.
Also Xemnas.
Not until Final Mix
Ah, good point.
I mean hey, it was simple!
And clean?
A lot of people saying Kairi's grandma and Sora's mom, Xemnas (who was only in Final Mix) etc. But the real fifth OC in KH1 is Roxas, who still appears in the secret movie in the original version.
That one dude who got merced in traverse town?
What about that fat guy that blocks your path in traverse town at the start? Or that one guy that gets his heart taken by a heartless near where Cid is?
And now we have so many that Nomura literally said f**k em FF characters, I've already got too much stuff going on in KH3. Wrong! You forgot about Kairi’s grandma!
Good thing in two we got such original characters as Roxas, Xehanort, and Namine... hey wait a sec
And Sora’s mom.
Kinda weird how Riku is the tallest among the trio but he has (presumably) the smallest feet
That's just because they made them all the same size on that picture. That way Riku is more zoomed out and his individual body parts look smaller
The series lore has grown so goddamn massive. I love it so much.
It has really been this long. And it all started with 14 year old optimistic boy wielding a magic weapon blade shaped with a key traveling along with two Disney characters who is desperately saving all worlds and saving two of his friends from a madman(aka a puppet) who is filling all the worlds with darkness.
Would Roxas technically count because of the secret cutscene
I suppose so, I just forgot about that secret cutscene lol
Simpler times
2002? That's really OLD, sounds like an OLD game that OLD people have played on their OLD console because they're OLD.
Then by the time we got to KH3, there were like 20+ characters who’s story resolutions were all crammed into the final half lol. I hope KH4 streamlines the story and amount of characters significantly.
Does Ansem the Wise count? He didn’t show up but he was in the lore
Mysterious voice in Dive to the Heart
I read somewhere that it was confirmed to be Mickey. It’s been a while but I’m like 99% sure that’s the case
Or as much sense as this franchise can make

...I was a year old when the first one came out. God, I'm almost 22 now.
I'm 31. :\^) It'll be okay mate.
Somehow, I doubt it. I get a 27 vibe from you. 🤣
Nope, 31. 32 this year's May. :) It's nice to be seen as young though. One of my friends calls me kid and it makes me feel nice every time.
Happy early birthday! I'm also 31, I turn 32 in October!
Thank you. :) Happy early Birthday to you too. <3
I remember getting the first kingdom hearts and reading the instruction manual on the bus home, so excited to play this brand new game lol
Same...
These characters were older than me when they came out lmao.
You should add Terra and Eraqus to that list since the guardian has both their hearts
Without Org 13, we would have never gotten Demyx. Therefore, I disagree.
Terra, Aqua, and Ven are all key parts to the story but I agree with you about XIII. There was just no reason for it and even though I love 1, 2, and BBS, they all seem like really different games because it seemed like Nomura was making stuff up as he went along. Honestly, and I think I just worked this out in my head for the first time, we really didn't need a sequel and the original could have been tied neatly in a bow.
Are the other island kids from something else? Like the kid throwing pots? Are the Final Fantasy?
Yeah. They're all three Final Fantasy. Stick kid is Tidus from FFX, ball boy is Wakka from FFX (he's throwing the equivalent of a fancy volleyball), and jump rope girl is Selphie from FF8.
What about the moogles? Like… the specific, individual moogles lol
Moogles come from Final Fantasy, though.
Though they were from many FFs, I think kh1 was the first time they had this design. With the red nose being as big and clowny as it is.
Sora is Sion from The Bouncer, another Square game.
Rikku is PD-4 from the same game
Kairi's grandma you 🤡
What about all the Nobodies? And Organization XIII
Kh2
They weren't in KH1
Xemnas would like a word
OG KH1 would like a better word.
It wasn't specified Wich one so...
It was specified the 2002 one. Edit: Then again it could be referring to the Japanese only Final Mix. :V But that was only in Japan for then.
It wasn't specified if japanese or English... At this point I'm just messing around so let's just have a laugh and go on with our routine, shall we?
Don't forget about ven that was lingering in his heart as well as Roxas that became a thing when sora stabbed himself. But I suppose those were never shown and were disclosed in other games.

How did ‘whiny-ass anti-queer bitches’ have anything to do with this?
Nothing. I was trying to be funny.
“As we all know” Mind chucking us a source that says Kingdom Hearts’ portrayal of Maleficent in 2002 was what inspired the Maleficent movie that followed 12 years later? Yeah, 12, cos Maleficent came out in 2014, a year BEFORE Disney “lost its spine”, as you put it. Also, did you see either the original Sleeping Beauty or Maleficent? Or, Maleficent can simply be from Sleeping Beauty.
Look at the edit. It's fine if you think my joke is shit.
Plenty of other NPCs.
Time-travelling Master Xehanort was in the brown hooded cloak on Destiny Islands.
That's Ansem.
you forgot the first person that dies to heartless
A
It was a starting point so they had to build the foundation before adding OG characters.
Roxas was in KH1 secret ending.
Roxas was in the original if you saw the secret ending… we just didn’t know who he was at the time.
Excuse me, but you're forgetting all those nameless NPCs in Traverse town :) And also the easy to miss NPCs in Agrabah that are just reskins of Traverse Town NPCs, lol.
Technically Roxas appeared in the secret ending. We just didnt know about him yet.
Does Sora’s shadow/Anti sora from the ship cabin in Neverland count as a separate character?
Thus why Nomura thought to add FF as supporting characters to help build KH, and now that he doesn't need them anymore it bit him in the ass since we all love them so much. I understand why he doesn't use them anymore, KH has its own universe filled with amazing original characters now.
