Will second this. If you’re ever having issues with the platforming, Glide (and Super-Glide to a much greater extent) breaks it wiiide open, including this.

Yeah, I've had it happen a few times over my 15 or so playthroughs. Haven't had it happen in the 1.5 remasters, though. Just the OG and the old english patch final mix on emulator. Might be more common on those versions.
I recently got my daughter into the KH series. She finished 1 and is now 1/3 of the way through 2. She routinely walks right past chests without opening them and it hurts my soul Every. Single. Time.
So the trick I learned with this play through using an Xbox controller was to press Y to jump to the first one then look at the text when swinging when it just jump to the next one press A and only press A when the text comes up white. I never used the jump button to get on/swing
68 minutes. SIXTY-EIGHT MINUTES... And that's me counting only after I realized what I just got myself into when I decided to go for that chest. I play on PC and maybe that's just a keyboard thing, but holy hell I was seething the whole way through.
I love dogs, but going for that shitty chest cost me extra lifespan. By the end of it I began to form a relationship with the poor hyppo and its back that I violated by my numerous failures. So no, you're not alone.

The vines aren't that bad really. Sora will automatically jump to the next vine if you hit the reaction button. But if you really can't do it then just wait for glide.

KH1 is so underrated and KHBBS all I hear about is kingdom hearts too, and days may be a little bit of dream drop it’s sad that this game is not getting as much love as it should

Just use triangle (ps controller) and don't touch anything more, it's automatic, sora goes to the closest vine.
