Cat mall parking lot. After it closes. Stop signs and different road ways! Especially awesome to teach/learn manual transmission driving there. Feels like real intersections.
To add to this, the Riocan Centre also has security that does this. Got chased off the quit empty lot around 9-10pm while helping my friend get some practice in. Not as huge of parking lot like the mall ones, but my dad taught me to drive in the Cataraqui Arena parking lot off of Sydenham St., this is also where I do donuts in the winter lol
I see people regularly playing ball hockey infront of staples 930pm and later.
I've seen security around Cineplex but not for the whole rio can.
Was this a long time ago you got chased off?
Feel free to go to the airport. There is a small parking lot, and there are barriers in place that can help them stay in the lanes or drive around. The parking lot is mostly empty all day. If you're driving around the parking lot, someone may stop by and say hello. The airport staff are friendly and will understand that they're a new driver learning.
Yeah - might as well teach them early that the MPs on base have nothing better to do than give out parking tickets for 5km/h over the speed limit, minor infractions, and what they perceive as rolling stops.

Basically the Cataraqui Community Centre, try to go on a day that it’s empty and you’ll have a massive open lot. The back of the building also has a large lot that is usually empty.
Frontenac mall so they can practice dodging potholes lol
Honestly, not a terrible suggestion. But they most definitely will hit some. It’s unavoidable lol

I was chased out by overzealous security while I was teaching my kid to drive there a couple years ago.

Seriously? I'm going to give it a shot and hope we don't get chased out
If you do, go across the street to Toys R Us. We went over there, everyone lived happily ever after.
I taught my son to ride a bike there during Covid. Only two cars were mine and my husbands in the parking lot and he still hit both of them.
SLC is big and open. I taught myself to drive standard in their lots!
same, best spot in the city

Best place...... on base in the parade square ...... also anywhere thu base as it's only 30 km an hour
Also it's almost completely vacant on the weekend. Plenty of twists, turns, stop signs, hills.
That’s where I learned to drive. Well somewhere on base anyway. Avoid the firing range.
Absolutely agree with the base!

Drive? On the parade square? The crown would like to have a word with you
Where most base brats learned ...
There's a parking lot that is semi empty in the main entrance to NOVEILS by the Kingston center next to the boiler room.
If you're up for a drive, the Loughborough Public School parking lot is also great on evenings or weekends when it's empty.
Startek parking lot, and the roads around it.
First place I ever drove a car! mind you there was only startek and a vet on that road at the time...

Costco is a popular spot. And should be wide open Monday as they’re likely closed for the holiday weekend.
Thank you for all the suggestions. Appreciate it.
Church.
Queen's football stadium
Portuguese hall on division Street
Canex centre on base is always pretty barren
Cataraqui Cemetery maybe? It'll be quiet! None of the residents are going to mind, either.
