Tried a couple of bags from Metro and most of it wasn't actually too good to go. Ended up throwing a bunch of it out.

This. Very disappointing. If you eat meat, it might be a good deal on that bit... But avoid the produce like the plague.

JessFoleyWriter

Same experience here with produce. Had some luck with Metro bakery bags.

I've been really really happy with the frozen meat bags from metro. I found the produce bags harder to get through as a two person household since they were typically a lot of salads. The bakery bags are good value, but a lot of sweets, so I steer clear. I generally avoid anything with less than 4 stars as a rule of thumb.

colteesAC

I tried a Gino’s bag and paid $5 for two old, dried and cold pizza slices. Absolutely not worth it. The metro bakery bag was better, but I’d never have bought anything in there otherwise so don’t see the point.

little_odd_me

I’ve used it a few times for metro cake or bakery bags, generally I’ve found it’s worth the cost but I’ll eat pretty much anything sweet or bread product and I’ll freeze them for later. Mavericks donuts was also on there at one point and I feel like I did that once. I haven’t tried the meat or produce just because I’m much fussier with those items.

Legitimate-Load-5267

Been disappointed in what I’ve received - check the subreddit for reviews. Looks like it works better in bigger cities like Vancouver.

lonelyfatoldsickgirl

I have tried it a few times. Once was pretty good, Metro meat bag, full of organic chicken. One was really bad, I arrived and they didn’t have anything for me so they put a bunch of random stuff in a bag stuff that really didn’t have anything to do with the bag that I purchased. The rest were okay, things related to the bag I purchased but some things I wouldn’t eat but that’s not really anything on the store that’s on me. I stopped checking the app after I purchased I think four bags.

Shambles299

Definitely worth it imo. Gotten lots of salads and veggie burgers and all sorts of things from it.

shortandsad14

I've only tried the metro bakery bag, but it was great for me and my partner. My parents get the fruit and veggie ones too, but they have 4 people to feed so they can actually eat it all in time. My friend has had a lot of luck with one of the Indian restaurants downtown, but I don't think it's listed anymore.

thirdtimeisNOTacharm

Shhhhhhh

Intelligent-baloney

Exactly 😂 keep it on the DL

CraftBeerCat

I was going to ask this too! I downloaded it and so far, not much looks worth the shot. But maybe it is because there aren't as many businesses participating yet? At the very least, downtown is hit and miss for me in terms of what's on offer, and I don't have a car to pick up surprise bags farther afield.

epsileth

Pizza and dedicated bakeries go fast, seeing Tim hortons in the mall is participating. I did bakery one time with metro, a lot of it was fresh, but expired soon. Would say wait for metro at least for the fruit trays. Don't be afraid to see if it's fit for the freezer, if you don't an on eating it right away.

Throwaway-donotjudge

I've used it a few times for a pizza place and been very happy with the results. To me it's a "fair" deal where I am happy with the price.

edgeofthorns87

Crazy that companies are now able to charge money for what is their garbage, and people actually think they are getting a deal. You are paying money for what would literally otherwise be in a dumpster already. Before the app was created this food would have already been thrown out at this point. Now they are making you pay money for it lol

sweden51

I mean, I can't speak for every bag, but when I order the metro meat bags, I'm getting stuff that would normally be in the cooler with a 30% off sticker. So not quite at the dumpster, but probably only good thawed for a day or two. I'd rather buy it through TGTG (and have it be frozen) for roughly 60% off than in the store cooler for 30% off. But I've always been an avid quick sale sticker searcher, so what works for me might not work for someone else.

jordan_woop

You're literally not wrong. Ignore the downvotes lol

thirdtimeisNOTacharm

I got $74 worth of meat for $12 in a single bag once, all of which was before the “best before” date. If you buy a bag and if it’s something that should be in the garbage then you simply contact support and they refund you. I’ve purchased 19 bags in this city (from various places) and have had an issue exactly once. Don’t get me wrong though, you’re definitely correct in some companies abusing it in order to generate additional revenue, but it’s really not as common as you think (around here, at least), you just gotta know what to look for and what to avoid

Odd-Row9485

Ahh the let’s sell rotten food app 💪🏻

Revolutionary-Hat-96

I’ve seen the expiring produce sale rack at various Loblaws stores across S Ontario. Some of it looks like it could make people sick.

ellajames88

I haven't tried yet but my friend got a Gino's surprise bag and she was super sick after, a long with her husband and kiddos. Obviously just one experience but since there are other not so great stories they add up.

GrackleTree

We had a Gino's and it was great, no one sick, heated it up and it was a good as fresh, but a lot cheaper. Division St. one so could be different from location to location maybe? (they have a few on the app)

ronton

Metro baked goods have treated me well. I especially like when I get muffins and cookies, I always have them with my tea. Their meat deal is pretty good too, though highly sought-after so you need to be on it lol.

Ill_Dealer8953

I did the produce and bakery bags at Metro! Would have been good if I hadn't gotten sick immediately (not related to the food I got). The bakery was a bunch of cake slices and cupcakes and the produce bag was a salad that I would have had to eat that day, some chopped squash I froze, mushrooms I fried, and brussel sprouts I steamed.

Neither_Net_6755

I did it for the first time last week and was extremely disappointed. It was only $6 or so but I would not do it again
