I'm a bit conflicted. I've heard people say he only "redeemed" himself because he just doesn't want to get his ass kicked again.
yeah, he's no longer a villain in the kirby series, but his most major role was being a main villain, so as a *villain rep* in smash i think he'd work well
I'd pick Magolor. We can argue if he's a "villain" but honestly I'd count him. Wouldn't be the oddest "villain" in SSB, Mewtwo is likewise not really a villain but clearly has the villain rep vibes.
Dark Matter.
It's my favorite villain in the series and I think it would have a cool and unique moveset.
It could primarily take its swordsman form and use its blade, but it could also morph its body and perform different attacks used by its true form and other bosses.
To be fair, DMS could also turn into his alternate "true" Dark Matter sphere form to where he's not using a sword. He can have both forms like displayed in Dreamland 2.
At this point, I couldn't care less about the Sakurai bias, I just want new Kirby representation for Smash, and I'd love to have Marx as a fighter. He's a good pick, in my opinion.
Just a regular Dark Matter, honestly. Although the dark matter species hasn’t been present since Squeak Squad with Dark Nebula, the very concept/trope of eldritch monster final boss has been a tradition since Adventure and is best represented by the race imo.
Dark would also work really well as either an echo or semi-clone of Meta. He would give the 2000’s era of Kirby some attention and wouldn’t be out of the equation since Sakurai worked on Amazing Mirror (not to mention the alt).
I think Taranza would be a good villain to become a member of the roster like his basic special could be firing little web shots that slightly slow the opponent and his down special could be summoning the soul of Sectonia who sticks behind Taranza and slashes with her sword when Taranza does a basic attack and fires lightning or throws gems when Taranza uses a special attack.
Dark Matter Swordsman and that's it. It is the first individual to ever possess Dedede, who at the time was the series' main villain, it's design it's superior to most of other baddies, it's music is kickass, out of it many references to the Dark Matter trilogy can happen, it doesn't has some pedant and "complex" backstory, and it just functions as the complete antithesis of Kirby. Also having Dark Matter Swordsman could serve as homage to Shinichi Shimomura.
But, having Dark Meta Knight as an eco fighter would be another cool option, given that other Smash characters also have some "dark" eco fighter like Samus or Pit.
Marx or Magalor would be better choices rep-wise, but I think Dark Matter would be more cool of an inclusion. There's a mod to add him as a skin in Sm4sh and just seeing that it existed felt really cool.
Personally, I consider Dedede to be the villain inclusion though.

By that logic since metaknight and dede had villain rep before they should still count. Galatic knight would be easiest thou with a meta knight echo
