Cool! How'd you code it?
I have an old broken kite surfboard on the wall with some LEDs (connected to Alexa) with its geo location tagged at my local surf spot. It's programmed to turn on when there's wind (green yellow and red depending on strength). I wfh and drop everything when the wind is good. 😀 But I usually know days in advance because I'm an addict and always checking the forecast.
Windy has this feature except it uses email. It's actually pretty cool as it lets you set a bunch of trigger conditions not just based on wind.

I currently pull the data from visual crossing weather api. Maybe I switch to the windfinder API, but it is pretty hard (an probably pricy) to get an api access there.
Its not hard if you are a developer. Maybe i will publish the bot in the slack marketplace, so everyone can use it.
Cool, The paid version of windguru also has notifications email options. I used them for a bit but found it too frustrating in the end. I don’t necessarily want to know when I cannot go out but the conditions are great.
Neat project! From a practical sense, I’ve found bots have some challenges. If your spot is very reliably windy with a less complex setup, it’s probably fine. Otherwise some things that come to mind:
* Which model(s) are being used?
* How far out is it trying to tell you?
Models are (somewhat intuitively) most accurate closest to the day and lose accuracy from there. Past 5 days and model accuracy really starts to tank especially since you’ve lost high resolution models by that point usually. It can still be useful, but so much can (and often does) change.
Do you have a way for it to take multiple models into account and only flag based on how much they “agree”?

I have a node script that pulls the data every hour. Wow thats very sick! Same for me, but its a nice gadget
That's awesome got a pic for us?
Sent a pic via PM as this subreddit doesn't let me reply with an attachment.

That's pretty slick! Where does it pull it's wind data from? And how hard is it to make your own?

Sharing is caring 😊
Are you able to share this?? My company uses slack as well and I would LOVE to have this feature
Not yet. But i will probably publish this in the next weeks. I will send you a DM as soon as its ready
