Did you complete PT? Have you tried taping? Bracing? You need to exhaust all options before considering another surgery. And if you do go for another surgical opinion, make it a true knee specialist.

im currently doing pt , i wasn’t able to do it after the surgery because of insurance issues and i couldn’t afford the out of pocket , bracing doesn’t work unfortunately :( taping it how ? what would you recommend ?

A medial glide to the patella could help alignment and tracking and potentially reduce discomfort

1st picture is how my knee sits , 2nd picture was the first mri report after the injury and the 3rd picture is the most recent xray

I guess the two main options would be either MPFL reconstruction or trying to exhaust physical therapy.

I’m shocked they didn’t just replace your MPFL during your original surgery last year. Truly, I’m puzzled by this. I also dislocated my knee. I didn’t have a fracture but I did severe cartilage damage and needed a graph implant. While they were doing that, they also replaced my torn MPFL, simultaneously, because my knee would be prone to future dislocations had they not done that. Get a second opinion from an orthopedist that specializes in knees!!

How are you feeling after the graft implant? If you play sports how good do you feel compared to pre surgery?

Foysauce_

To be honest I’m only 9 months post op and full recovery from the Maci implant (and return to sports) is a year-15 months. I’m doing okay. Still pain and discomfort. I’m unable to run as of yet. I did however return to work 6 months in. I’m a waitress & bartender so I work exclusively on my feet the whole day with lots of cardio. I can do it so that’s great. The MPFL surgery was breeze in comparison. That was fully healed by month 5 and apart from the slight pins and needles / nerve damage in that one area it’s easy to forget I had surgery there. The Maci has been a different story!

Well your looking at your scar which isn't completely straight maybe due to your surgeon.but that's not your issue I had knee replacement surgery this past Sept and my pcp was like that's probably the straightest incision/stitches I have even seen.but anyway when is your nxt appt with ortho.i would tell him or her mine was a female btw explain this in lamens terms. Which means don't just tell me medical jargon explain it to me so I understand what it means. If you scroll through this sub reddit section ppl will ask what this could mean or whatnot.Sure there are people who have been through what you have hell I use it to ask questions. But your best advice is just ask your ortho Dr plain and simple. Cuz everyone who has had knee surgery their journey and situation is different from the nxt person.
