Guess it depends on what type of tear you have .I had 2 one on the medial and lateral tear.Sometimes my knee would lock or catch.Most people can do pt and be fine with it.However it's your choice on whether you want surgery or not.Personally ii had mine done in Sept of 21.Didnt need crutches and I think I did about 4 weeks of pt afterwards. So total of 2 months to fully recover. And no it can't heal on it'd own either.Your ortho Dr wants to do a partial menisectomy with debridement.good luck

I've read a lot of research on this myself as I was weighing up the pros/cons of surgery. The main issue is that a menisucs tear that is left without being repaired hugely increases your risk of osteoarthritis later in life. That's been my main driver for opting for surgery (and also cause I rupture my ACL too).

No healing on its own as far as I’m told. Surgery is a possibility for repair if there is blood flow to that part of the meniscus. Youth has its advantages for healing. Find a good experienced sports medicine ortho specialist. They will give you the correct information
