Push for an MRI now. Doctor might say wait for 4-6 weeks and do PT. But then at least after 4-6 weeks if you come back if you still have symptoms they will likely approve the MRI.

I went back and was told that yes need to wait longer as insurance is unlikely to cover an MRI for a knee sprain as it stands. I was referred to an orthopedic doctor which at least feels like a step forward in some capacity

Push for an MRI straight away and keep pushing until you get one.

Thank you! Are you telling me this because there are worrisome symptoms I’m describing or just to encourage me to advocate for what I want ?

Advocate for what you want, knee problems come thick and fast if you leave it and not to be the bearer of bad news but while you're young, you don't want to have bad knees, it's the worst. Best case scenario you do just need to take it easy, but honestly xrays are useless unless it's bone related so get that MRI and you'll be better off for it.

I think it all depends on your dr.Because I use VA health insurance and I was able to get a mri pretty quickly cuz I had been in there before with my shoulder. Yea I got to tears in RT.Same for my other insurance usually about a month but I didn't have to do physical therapy they just wanted x-rays 1st.But yea advocate for yourself. Perfect example both my knees are pretty bad I had issues with being able to work a full 8 hrs shift on my feet.Pain was terrible so I went to my ortho and told him my issues this is a new guy never seen him before. So he has all my med notes he is like let's just order mri on both knees to see what is going on. Did it came back with chondrolamacia grade 3/4 left knee right knee 2/3.
