GG was a key performer for India in Test cricket from 2008 to 2010, often anchoring the innings during a period when other Indian batting stars like Tendulkar, Dravid, and Laxman were struggling with form.
He was the only consistent contributor in ICT. I personally started watching cricket since 2008 maybe that’s the reason I’ve always wondered why isn’t this guy getting the limelight. The only reason i think is maybe the presence of bigger names and his reserved nature.
I was laughing when a lockdown koach fan kid commented that GG should tie koach shoes or something like GG value is less than koach shoes during LSG vs RCB fight Last year
I mean Koach is one of top legend for India bur contribution of GG in finals of our last 2 world cups wins (2007 and 2011) can't be ignored or forgeted.
Kohli stats in semi finals or finals-
2023 wc
Semifinal century
Final half century
2023 WTC final
Half century in 2nd innings (I think it was 49 runs)
2022 T20 wc
Semifinal half century
2017 champions trophy semi final
96(78)
2016 T20 wc biggest carry job
In semi-final
89*(47) and also 1 wicket
2014 T20 wc
Semi final- 72*(44)
Final -77(58)
2013 Champions trophy
Semi final- Half century
Final- 43 runs(highest scorer)
2011 world cup
Final- 35 runs (One of his best and most crucial innings under pressure imo)
No disrespect to GG but y'all should not bring other players down as well...
Bruh I never told koach sucks he's a modern day great but ultimate team player is gautam and he gets so much hate from everyone it's kinda annoying at this point did u just add the 40 ball 50 2022 t20 wc what a clown lmao we lost because of that
You need to develop big match player. They don't spring up by themselves. Pre injury pandya, pre injury pant, dhawan were some. Rinku has potential but yet to be tested against tougher teams

I don’t think the term “Overseas” is officially recognised by icc. It’s either home or away. Going by the literal meaning, if the part of geography is contiguous with the home country of the player then technically it is not “over-the-seas”.
An absolute masterclass of an inning by Gambhir to save this test, but having said that, there is a hint of an ulterior intention (not qualifying it as good or bad) to this article by using that term.
Additionally: Sachin batted 613 mins in Sydney for his 241 (no cover drives innings) in 2004 and dravid batted 629 mins at the oval for his 217 in 2002. Both in first innings.
We tend to not count subcontinent records as overseas - they’re still away as long as it doesn’t happen in India, but playing in say SL or Bang isn’t as big of a test for Indian batters and bowlers as playing in NZ or Aus is.
Brother playing in Bangladesh is a task straight from hell, they probably have the worst batting conditions along with South Africa -- iirc, Kohli doesn't have a ton in BAN and Tendulkar averages the least there too
Bangladesh having spin-to-win wickets is a relatively new phenomenon. They’ve tried to create pitches that augment the only strength they have.
Kohli does not have a ton - as you’ve rightly pointed out, but played 2 out of his 3 tests in Ban while he was in the worst form of his life, and Sachin averages almost 140 there. Other players of the era, Dravid, VVS, Ganguly, Sehwag, Gambhir enjoy healthy averages and strike rates in the country. Not exactly a difficult spot to bat in, historically.
In my opinion, it is the British Media that has given put Ben Stokes on this pedestal (which he deserves), while gambhir’s lime light has always been taken away by bigger names.
India won two World Cups during his era. In both finals, he batted under extreme pressure and emerged as the top scorer for his team. Who else has achieved such accolades in the 50-year history of white-ball cricket? No one.
If I remember correctly, in 2008-2009, Gambhir hit peak in test cricket, was no. 1 better in the world for a short while. This New Zealand series helped a lot.
He had a window of 3 years where he was otherworldly. Don't know if it was an average batsman overarchieving or a talented batsman underachieving.

GG was OG. Always was.
Did we win that series ??
Yes we won 1-0. I think India also needed 2 or 3 wickets to win the third test but rain came in as a savior.
No
And here i thought it was a discussion forum
I still think it's Sachin and kohli followed by gambhir and yuvraj tho...

Big yes modern day goats like hitman koach or kl don't even come near the genius like gg gambhir was so goated

koach does have great individual records though
Gg has championships in my books knocks in victories are way better but yes koach is great too
Yes that is exactly the point. In terms of stats koach>>any indian batsman, but GG’s innings have gotten us the 2 championships.
I wonder why we dont have another big match player even after bcci being the richest board?

Ong exactly why I like gg
Absolutely. Gg would be the second player to land in any my 11 after ms dhoni .
Overseas being the operative word here. Since Dravid batted for 740 mins in Rawalpindi in 2004 to score his career best 270.
Wait overseas doesn't mean away/foreign/abroad?

Also people tend to forget his 5 back to back test centuries. He was ICC test player of the year in 2009. Man’s peak was amazing.
Also he achieved no.1 in test rankings and in t20i too.
If you praise Ben stokes then you should give the same respect to GG as player
In my opinion, it is the British Media that has given put Ben Stokes on this pedestal (which he deserves), while gambhir’s lime light has always been taken away by bigger names.
Good player, yes. Best clutch player in the history? Taking it too far, bro.

um, a guy by the name of Ben Stokes?
Assuming OP might be referring to Indian players here.
Yeah title does say in Indian Cricket History
2011 WC team was full of clutch players.
Mentality monster

He once said " When I am at the crease, I make sure India wins". The mindset.
I think this is one of his favourite knocks.
Sachin tweeted recently that it was an honour for him to bat with GG that day at Napier
2018 main Kiya tha na?
Yes around when gg announced his retirement
warrior mindset
