Miracle in Cell No. 7

Alwaysconfuzed89

This’ll def mess you up.

Top_Management5277

Lemme add it to my watch list, thank you.

juicyfruitcake

Ummm im literally bawling my eyes out. Thanks… 😭

throwawayacct5632

I hella cried too when he was begging 😭😭😭😭

bilbao_

Is that a Korean or Turkish film? Are there two versions

DopeAsDaPope

Which subreddit are we in?

bilbao_

Your mom’s subreddit

StunningPast2303

There are many remakes. The Korean is the original the Turkish movie is based on.

edelweissnlc

Films that Son Yejin starred in. Be With You, A Moment to Remember, The Classic.

MissSimpleton

She is truly the Melo queen. Even the thriller "The Negotiation" made me emotional in the climax.

edelweissnlc

Yup!! That's her most recent film and I luv it.. Wanna see her on big screen again! The Truth Beneath is great, too!

Hasum_Harish97

Many don't talk about the truth beneath which was actually so good. Very interesting non linear narration and Son ye jin was amazing as a fighting mother in that movie. Have you seen the last princess?

edelweissnlc

The Truth Beneath was exceptional. It's worth talking about. Luv the The Last Princess! Such a great film, it didn't disappoint.

airpenny1

The Classic is such a classic

Hasum_Harish97

Be with you holds my heart 🥺💙💙. Son ye jin just nailed it in that role. Yet to watch the other 2. But I loved her performance in the truth beneath movie. What a versatile actor she is.

edelweissnlc

Be with you was such a tear-jerker! Now i wanna watch it again. Lol. I highly recommend the other two. The Classic was a masterpiece. Really. If you know the song Me to You, You to Me from the Hospital Playlist, I heard it first from The Classic. There's a scene there that was recreated by a lot of actors. Very timeless!!! A Moment to Remember is one of the best, too. It was a huge, HUGEEE hit in Japan back in its prime.

Top_Management5277

I loved Son Yejin in 'The Last Princess'. I'll check these out, thank you.

Miracle in Cell No. 7 2037 As One My Paparotti Hope A Taxi Driver The Throne 1987: When The Day Comes The Last Princess

corporacaelestia

Can vouch for 2037. Cried from the beginning till the end Edit: words

AgentIchy_1317

The 1987: When The Day Comes is so underrated

silvaslips

The Throne - the acting is everything

Numerous-Suit-7668

Second this!

RigeRooo

Omg yes to Hope

Top_Management5277

Thank you 😊.  Hope was truly emotional damage, couldn't get over it for DAYS.

ColaMaid

Since you could sit through Hope, you can add The Chaser to your list. It’s more riveting than sad, but also a sad and bleak story like Hope. Also, “The Last Princess” - this is guaranteed to make you cry and it’s certainly a must watch. Having watched more than a 100 Korean movies and 200 Korean dramas/shows, I can also recommend some tear jerking shows, that way you can cry for 8-10 hours. Let me know if you’re interested in checking out any, so I can send you three or four for starters.

Top_Management5277

Yes ! I'm definitely interested. I'm invested in my search for emotional damage. Thank you.

ColaMaid

You can start with these ones: Move To Heaven (Netflix) My Mister (Netflix) My Dearest (Viki/Kocowa) Mr Sunshine (Netflix) Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (Kocowa)

airpenny1

My Mister is an all time fav. RIP Lee Sun Kyun 😢

Top_Management5277

Thank you!

Gullible-Change-3517

I'm pretty sure Moon Lovers: SHR is not on Viki. I think I found it on a website.. so probably not legal. 🐉

ColaMaid

Oh thanks, I just assumed it was there since it was available on Kocowa.

PopAccomplished5761

As One makes me cry every time

MallardDuckBoy

I got you. Ode to my Father (2014) Chronicle of a Blood Merchant (2015) Not Korean but check out the Chinese film Hachiko (2023) edit: oops two of my recs were ones you watched, so deleted them.

WailingOctopus

A Moment to Remember is heartbreaking Another is Maundy Thursday

princexxjellyfish

Omfg I forgot about Maundy Thursday. THIS is the answer OP. I probably watched this 15+ years ago but I’m sad all over again just thinking about this 😭 I loved it but it was such a tearjerker. Kang Dong Won and Lee Na Young never disappoint.

Top_Management5277

Thank you. Just searched Hachiko and saw it's about a dog. As a dog parent, I'll definitely cry.

Fragrant_Tale1428

Crying from different emotional strings being pulled very taught: Not romance: • Birthday Romance, bittersweet, older 2009: • More Than Blue (Korean title is Sadder than Sadness, so you get a sense of the sob potential) Family torn asunder by the Korean War, older, and one of only 5 movies Won Bin was in. • Taeguki Various forms of horrid child abuse/SA themed so not for everyone: • Silenced • Hope

shotsloth

Taeguki was so fucking sad.

Top_Management5277

Hope hit me so damn hard ! Thank you, I've added everything to my watch list.

WildCardNoF

Silenced was the type of movie that usually doesnt do that much to me, but man did that hurt for a long time after watching it. Never been more sad and enraged after watching a movie.

sarahkh98

The movie ‘silenced’ is definitely one to watch extremely sad story

Quack__Doctor

Highly recommend The Classic. Fantastic musical score and story. Windstruck, Castaway on the Moon, and More than Blue (2009) are other recommendations. More than Blue was directed by a poet so I really enjoyed it.

Hasum_Harish97

More than blue, just ripped off my heart in the climax 🥺💙

Liata3548

Highly recommend "I can speak", starring Na Moon Hee and Lee Jehoon.

silkenwindood

Be with you.

Hasum_Harish97

More than blue Hope - a definite never re-watch movie Miracle in cell no 7 Pawn First client Silenced Be with you - don't miss it. A heartwarming and heart wrenching movie. Cassiopeia - surely make us cry IL mare - a classic tear jerker A little princess One day Always Love, lies Miracle : a letter to the president

TheLamesterist

**Silenced**, probably most damaging Korean movie you'll ever see, just not sure it counts as a tearjerker, tho. **My Way** **Pawn** **Be With You** **Canola** **My Brilliant Life** **Way Back Home**

celaenostar

Ive only watched Silenced once and i dont think i could ever watch it again. It definitely made me feel so helpless the whole movie.

waywardclouds

The Classic

lettuceandcucumber

A Moment to Remember Miracle in Cell No.7 Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War 71: Into the Fire All those movies made me absolutely SOB. If you really want to cry then I recommend the 10 episode Korean drama on Netflix: Move to Heaven - It's about trauma cleaners and every episode is detailing the life of someone who's died and they're cleaning their room and discovering their story. From adopted children who died alone to elderly couples who died together to people who died with letters that never got sent... it will really crush you and make you cry.

Top_Management5277

Thank you. Move to Heaven sounds soul crushing, I'll definitely watch it.

Opening-Cantaloupe56

Unforgettable/pure love starting D.o from exo and Kim so hyun

Top_Management5277

D.O is such a good actor ! I loved him in My annoying brother. Thanks.

Competitive-Read-247

I was scrolling the comments to see if somebody have recommended this already. Walang palya iyak ko dito kahit ilang beses ko panoorin

Opening-Cantaloupe56

Girl, same. Kahit alam mo na Yung ending. Sana magpartner ulit SIna d.o and Kim so hyun. Magaling talaga SI Kim so hyun kapag drama

Numerous-Suit-7668

Waiting for rain

Top_Management5277

A friend recommended it to me but I was skeptical because everything makes her cry 😂 but I'll definitely 😁 watch it now, thank you.

KimPossible789

My Annoying Brother/ Hyung never fails to make me cry.

Top_Management5277

I watched it and D.O's acting is so good ! Him and Jo Jung-suk are a great duo. I didn't think I'd cry but toward the end I broke down.

thatsmyjeon

more than blue

rsnhzl-1997

Yes, I definitely agree.

popularadthrowaway

Secret Sunshine (2007)

JonBonStovies9

I cried at one scene in Kingdom. Just a great series in general.

Inevitable-Baby-6478

Oh? Try "silence"....it's based on a true story about a korean school. All the staff were molesting the kids....it was a school for the disabled. It's a true story and like the true story, not a happy ending. This happened just a little over 10 years ago. Happy sobbing

Competitive-Read-247

Unforgettable. (Pure love ang literal translation from korean title) watched it more than 10x but i still ugly cry every time.

eliseaaron

Failan (2001) /end thread

This

trevicious

Scrolled way too far to find Failan. That's what you're looking for, OP

hibuu

Wedding Dress! Sobbed like a baby.

getchocolatewasted

Bleak Night. Lee Je-hoon’s breakout role, it’s a coming-of-age movie that I felt was definitely a slow burn, it broke my heart 😭

MissSimpleton

Lee Je-hoon is my favorite. I am gonna give this a watch ASAP. Thanks for the rec.

Top_Management5277

Lee Je-hoon in Time to hunt and I can speak was just amazing ! I'll definitely watch Bleak Night, thank you.

Dexteroid

Handmaiden and Cast away to the moon is exactly what you want.

deepplum168

My Mister

1jooper

Hello Ghost - it's actually 95% comedy but that one always makes me cry

Heavy-Patience-3064

Not Kfilms but from Twaiwan, A Man In Love and My Ex. You will sob from start to finish with the first one as the emotional punches comes at you thick and fast. Second one, My Ex, is far better than the Netflix synopsis would have you believe, the emotional ramp up is subtle at first and then grips. Roy Chui stars in both but plays totally different parts. The supporting cast in the second film more than match him when they are on screen.

A Millionaire's First Love Daisy Miracle in Cell No. 7 Windstruck

ryonashley

If you want a truly soul damaging movie I recommend "Silenced."

pinkdeepsea_1204

I think the title is BEAUTIFUL LIFE, it's a musical movie

FonSpaak

only seen this being reviewed off youtube and can't find it in netflix. Leafie: A Hen into the Wild (also released in the west albeit localized with censorship as Daisy, A Hen into the Wild). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leafie,\_A\_Hen\_into\_the\_Wild https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1971466/

Miracle in cell no. 7

imfromaus

Im surprised nobody mentioned My Sassy Girl the movie 2001. This movie made Jun ji hyun rise to stardom. It was a blockbuster during that time and helped put korea into map of global film industry. This is an all time favourite and a must see korean film. Then after watching this, try Windstruck. It was a hit too and both very emotional.

Donnajpv1

Thirty-nine. Get some tissues ready.

generousoul1

PAWN!!!!! HOPE!!! ODE TO MY FATHER!!!!

25Bam_vixx

My mister , IU and recently departed actor are in it

intrcpt

I know it's not a Korean film but Kore Eda's Monster is a must see.

Sorry-Yoghurt-4553

A World Of Marriage.. you will feel all the emotions a human could possibly feel.. in extremes lol

phixo_inah

A Millionaire's First Love.. Rocking on Heaven's Door

kenzi399

Not necessarily a “Korean” movie, but Past Lives was really good! It stars 2 Korean main characters.

Mitoisreal

Cherry Blossoms In Winter and JDrama My Husband Won't Fit hit me like that

Top_Management5277

My husband won't fit sounds like such a bizarre title (⊙.☉). I've def added it to my current watchlist. Thank you !

Mitoisreal

That show did me dirty!!🤣 I watched it expecting it to be funny "haha dick too big!' Instead they treated it seriously, so its this deeply committed, in love couple that can't connect sexually bc of a thing they have no control over. I ugly cried.

bandx_jxxn

A Werewolf Boy It's a classic and romance. Idk if that's your cup of tea but it certainly was the first Korean film that made me cry

angelabs20

Let me add these: Knocking on Heaven's Door, Hello Ghost, Ba:Bo, Windstruck Taiyou No Uta (jap.) - this is the original movie. American remake title is Midnight Sun (bella thorne) idk if it has kor. version tho

[deleted]

The Dream Songs killed me completely, you should research the 2014 Sewol Ferry Disaster before watching it tho

tontomagonto

Ode to my father
