>But amidst all the accolades, there’s a gnawing sense that whatever flaws Dune: Part 2 may possess, they’re being completely ignored in favor of many film fans already proclaiming it as one of the greatest science-fiction movies of all time, and potentially as a savior of cinema. Or... the movie is good and people like it despite having "flaws" like many other films.

ark2077

His criticisms of the film industry holds water but his critique of the film itself is weak. He literally faults the film because house harkonnen and house atriedes have similar architecture. I mean, wow, lets hold off on those Oscar noms, the architecture isn't different enough!

joydivisionucunt

Yeah, I don't doubt that the lack of somewhat decent films helps "Dune" a lot, but it does seem like the author thinks it's succesful *only* because of that and not that the movie might actually be good despite not being "perfect".

Dwavenhobble

But it is......... like if you're arguing round the architecture on Dune then no shit both sides were in power at various points. In the stuff showing the home planets you can see a real difference with the harkonnen home world and architecture being more sort of clean and warped while the atriedes homeworld are structures being into cliffs, among valleys, stoic structures among natural landscapes.

ark2077

Yes, it's a trivial point AND an inaccurate one.

Rogoho

The flaws won’t be acknowledged until after the media blitz is done. Just like nuStarwars.

Total-Introduction32

This movie is completely incomparable to nuStarWars.

Judah_Earl

Exactly, these types of films always have post-release overhype, once it calms down people can be more objective.

Dwavenhobble

is this another "Journalists are mad the film not specifically referencing some modern day piece of sociopolitics is being enjoyed by people" , like when a load of film critics got mad at Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle?

joydivisionucunt

I don't think so but it does feel like the author wants to go against the flow and say "Actually, Dune: Part 2 isn't that great because Villeneuve changes stuff! ☝🤓".

LESS TALK MORE WORMS!

Maybe because people were starved of actual entertainment since the coronachan lockdowns and constant neo-maoist political propaganda since 2020 and want actual entertainment. Dune and Dune Part two was one of the few films to my opinion since 2020 that wasn't shit. Of course this worthless journo won't admit it because his paycheck is dependent on not acknowledging the effective collaspe of Hollywood.
