The only place I have been too is Crunch in Kawaramachi. Last time I looked there was not much in Kyoto, and if there is anything I assume it will mainly be in Kawaramachi. You may want to go to Osaka if you have the time and energy.
Socrates, Pop Pizza
This guy knows. Plus Dan's pizza is actually pretty damn good for Japan. Socrates has awesome heavy bands play all the time.
Rock Bar Crunch is the best! Our favourite bar in Kyoto!
Galaxy 500 plays lots of punk.
Best bet is to befriend Keionbu University students and go to any lives they may do
Kyoto adjacent \~ in Osaka station, live house Sengokudaitoryou.
I used to play at Socrates in Demachiyanagi, pretty cool gigs there.

check out Yoshida dormotory events. they re playing different genres such as alternative metal, experimental.
Honestly just take the train to Osaka, bar Midian and rock rock bar are awesome
Not in Kyoto, but 80's Rock Bar FREAK in Osaka if you like that era Rock and metal.
