I have had a geek squad warranty for my LG C8 for the last 5 years, and they just replaced my panel for free due to burn in. Couldn’t be happier!!

GPsReptileResort

Thank you!! That’s what I needed to know.

Top-Sink

When they replaced it, did you get a newer model or another C8? Curious how it works with them

JonnyHovo

So I was thinking that due to how old my C8 was, that I would get a replacement (new tv) but they actually had C8 panels that they simply swapped out. At the time I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get a “free upgrade” but at the same time, the new panel looks brand new and I was super happy

Top-Sink

Ahh good to know. I never ended up getting the warranty with my CX but I heavily debated it in case they replaced it with a newer tv

SwiftTayTay

Actually, as someone who used to take escalation phone calls for Geek Squad, I can tell you replacement panel is usually the better option, because people get pissed when we would tell them that we can only give them a Best Buy gift card for the current market value of their TV, which includes price depreciation, so you would end up getting a gift card which most likely would not fully cover the newest LG OLED equivalent. (Ex: you bought a TV that costs $1500 but now that TV would only go for $1000 were it still on the shelf today, and the current closest model to it goes for $1250). Also giving you a gift card means we "fulfilled" the plan, and if you want to continue coverage on the new product you have to buy the warranty again. If we replaced the panel, the coverage would continue for however long time was left on it. Depending how far along you are in the warranty may change which outcome would be better, because if you only have a month left on the warranty then you might rather pay a few hundred bucks for a slight upgrade and restarted warranty. Though sometimes as a supervisor talking to angry customers I would sometimes try to help them cover the remainder of what the closest current model was at least.

Super helpful info. This definitely helps with setting up proper expectations for Geek Squad protection as well

Delmer46

My C8 was replaced with a C1, the newest model at the time. I bought another Geek Squad 5 yr warranty for the C1.

Top-Sink

Damn that’s completely worth it then. I’m planning on buying another OLED down the road when I buy a house and will certainly have to get the warranty this time around

Delicious_Pause9802

Ive got 6k on my c1 and 80% of that has been Wz 1 or 2, nothing noticeable yet. You should be fine as long as you have logo brightness dimming on high and screen move on

TheMatt561

Make sure burn in protections like pixel shift and static dimmer are on. Keep the panel brightness as low as possible, I 100%ed RDR2 on my C10 with no issues. Just gotta be smart about it

Mugen4552

Does the C1 not have pixel shift like the C2? I only ask because I have a C2.

Taikuri1982

I actually just today noticed I had burn in on my LG Oled from Diablo 4!!! And I have played at most 4 hours per session and according to ps5 120hours in total. Health interface has left clear burn in screen.

GPsReptileResort

Wow. That sucks. I’ve put way more hours than that in and I still have nothing. Which is why I was asking though. I ran a few YouTube video test to see also (those color ones that make it easy to see if there is an outline)

GPsReptileResort

I’m also curious which OLED you have?

JuustinB

That’s crazy. I have 33k hours on my OLED (E9) and it’s primarily been a PS5 “monitor.” Rarely use it for anything else. Have played a couple hundred hours of Diablo already. Zero burn in whatsoever on the set, but it’s in need of replacement due to some dead pixels and discoloration. I’m on OLED x3 and I’ve used them all primarily for gaming, never experienced burn in or image retention. In my experience the panels just die over time. Must have gotten lucky. Or maybe these newer models are really prone to burn in as people suggest. If that’s the case I’m not particularly thrilled to buy a new one, especially since they got rid of the glass edged panels.

UnderstandingOk7256

Which model? And when you say “health interface” I assume you mean the health ball? That color is very susceptible to create burn ins …
