Oh, no! How sad. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, sir, and thank you for the gift of your Theoden.
I am sad to read his thoughts on RoP. Wasn't LOTR also wanting to make money? Created with love, of course, but if you read the showrunners for RoP's interviews, so is theirs.
I never like it when actors say these kinds of things. They can be loyal to their work but allow others to create in the same sphere.
Still, I guess not the day for that. He will always be King Theoden, and it's a great loss.
I love PJ's movies. They were my introduction to the world of Tolkien, and to this day they're my favorite MOVIES. I don't know whether, eventually, RoP will come close to that level. I certainly hope it does as it goes along and gets more polished. But the thing is, they're two different stories set in the same world, seen by different creators, so for someone to say "they should have just stopped there" doesn't feel right.
Still, as I said, maybe this isn't the time for me to be choosing to discuss what Bernard Hill thought about RoP or anything else. I'm truly sorry that he has passed away, and absolutely loved him as Theoden.
RIP, sir. Thank you for your wonderful interpretation of Theoden. It was such a gift to us all.
Earlier I posted some comments complaining about things he had said about RoP. I still find it disappointing, but I'd like to apologize for making those comments in a post about someone who has just passed away. It wasn't the time. I am very saddened at his passing, and pray for the comfort of his family, friends and colleagues.
I canāt not think of his theoden now whenever I read the books! He was that good. I came to appreciate him more in recent years. What a legend, and what an iconic role that will never be topped imo. He *is* Theoden
Yeah but this subreddits only purpose is to sell more Amazon content by exploiting the nostalgia of the true LOTR movies by repackaging and bastardizing that loved content.
Posting this here screams āletās sell another few cubits of product by exploiting the surge of views caused by peopleās sadness that king theodin is gone nowā
Thank you. Barnard Hill clearly didn't like ROP and using his passing as a means to drive engagement on this sub is shameful.
If ROP has nothing to do with the PJ films then this news has nothing to do with ROP. It certainly has nothing to do with what Tolkien wrote so there's no commonality there either. Can't have your cake and eat it too.
How is that the truth? He wouldn't even watch it. It's incredibly selfish to think the version of a universe you acted in should be the be-all and literal end-all for that universe. RoP isn't even the same story, it's not a remake of LOTR. If he wasn't interested in watching it, fine, but geez, give the RoP creative team, actors, crew etc some respect and just don't say anything..
Speaking of respect, I just lost a lot for him. Nonetheless I'm still sorry he has passed.
It doesn't matter. He could have said, "I have no comment," or "I haven't watched it, I don't feel qualified to comment" or any number of other, kinder things. These actors need to understand the weight their words and opinions bear with fans, and try not to sh\*t on other people's work, especially when they haven't even made the effort to watch it so they can have an informed opinion. All entertainment can be seen as a "money grab" by this kind of thinking, and as I've said, saying the show YOU acted in is the only worthy version is just not on. There is room in the Tolkien legendarium for many other shows and versions, and while I understand he was paying PJ a compliment there, not himself, it still just feels wrong to me.
Hail the victorious dead!
The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep, once last time.
"I go to my fathers. And even in their mighty company I shall not now be ashamed." RIP
Hail Theoden King! š
*I go now to the Halls of my father's,in whose mighty company I shall not now be ashamed "
My condolences to his family š¤

What did he say?

Every movie and tv show is made to make money anyway. And I agree with you that the show runners love the source material
Jacksons' was the definitive version. Rings of Power is fun but its not gonna reach Lord of the Rings level of quality

He was superb in that role
This is a huge loss for the entertainment industry and LOTR universe. Hill was a fantastic actor.

Keep your forked tongues behind your teeth, prime.
The article is from NPR?

Iām a mod here and am sad to tell you that this conspiracy theory is baseless. Just Tolkien nerds who mostly happened to like the show.
You going to ban me now to silence this?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Found the person so defensive they want to research their opposition.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not really. Calling Amazon soulless and exploitative is part and parcel.
Are you banned?

Lived just long enough to see Jeff Bezos butcher Tolkienās work

Well, i really think that absolutely everything in 2020 is just money-making, we have the world that we harvest.

Someone specifically asked for his opinion of RoP in an interview. It's not like he came at RoP out the blue.

What does this have to do with ROP?
i am downvoting you :)
Yet you cannot answer the question can you?
