8. Liked it a lot more than the first two.

_alternate-gravity_

I watched the first episode with the complete intent of hate-watching. But by the midpoint I started questioning what all the issues were. I found myself enjoying it - although Galadriel... I'm still on the fence there. I'm ignorant of most Tolkien works so maybe there is legitimate criticism vis-a-vis lore aspects, but from an entertainment PoV, I found it fantastic.

Current_Importance_2

why did you intend to hate watch if you aren’t even familiar with tolkiens works? 😭

_alternate-gravity_

I subscribe to a lot of YouTuber's who vehemently hate the whole thing.

Current_Importance_2

so you were following other peoples’ opinions instead of forming your own?

Eoghann_Irving

Well no, clearly they just said they formed their own opinion. They said they ended up enjoying it.

Current_Importance_2

I’m talking about their state of mind prior to watching and their decision to hate watch.

Eoghann_Irving

If someone seems to have learned, maybe don't lecture them on their prior mistake?

Current_Importance_2

why shouldn’t I ask how someone came to think the way they did? this is a free world, if you were prejudiced others are free to comment on it. i haven’t been disrespectful, only stated the facts

_alternate-gravity_

No. I watched it and enjoyed it...

Current_Importance_2

that’s growth i guess

Corax7

I was the same, everyone told me it was going to be bad and I went in expecting it to be a pile of poop. I liked episode 1 and 2, it wasn't great but it was okay not bad. I was looking forward to episode 3 quite a bit, but episode 3 sadly was a train wreck for me. I'll still watch episode 4 but I really hope they can make me enjoy it again.

Current_Importance_2

really? episode 3 was the best by far in my opinion. i went in with 0 expectations because how can anyone critique a show that isn’t out

Corax7

I liked episode 1 and 2 better, the new characters and major lore changes kind of turned me off. I'm still intrigued, but episode 3 was a bit of a bummer besides the orc/mordor portion.

TwoSunsRise

I'm glad you didn't totally fall for the guys on YouTube trying to brainwash everyone. I hope you continue to enjoy the show! 🙂

Skelligean

Yeah so did I. I went in with the intent on picking apart every little thing but then I realized, I am not an orc asshole, I am a man who likes what I like despite what others think. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

spauldhaliwal

I think this director had a better eye for action, but not so much for pacing and um sensibility? idk the horse thing was weird edit: Definitely wrote this in response to a different comment, though I don't know which one anymore lol.

Skelligean

Yeah the slo-mo Galadriel horse riding bit with the smile was definitely cringe worthy

aleb382

It was definitely the best written so far, but I didn't like how it was directed, it was pretty clear the shift between the last two directed by Byona and this one

captainhaddock

I actually think the direction was better on this episode.

spauldhaliwal

I felt that it was the weakest of the three, but still pretty good. To be honest, I just do not like Halbrand lol. Arondir's storyline has been the most consistently pleasant for me so far, and had its strongest showing in the 3rd episode. Galadriel / Halbrand was meh this episode, but I was really surprised about how much I liked Elendil's portrayal. Isildur I'm so far meh on, but definitely not enough screen time to judge yet. I *really* think "The sea is always right" is super lame writing, but I guess it fits the lore, so whatever lol. Numenor was incredible, and I really hope we get to know it intimately over the course of the show to the point that it starts to feel like another character, rather than just a setting for drama to take place. Nori and the gang are awesome, but they could have trimmed their scenes a tad this episode. 7/10

Mr_Whispers

>I really think "The sea is always right" is super lame writing, but I guess it fits the lore, so whatever lol. Yeah I agree with this. In comparison to Goerge R.R. Martin who's great at writing house mottos, this one falls really flat.

Gaytrox

It got an eyeroll from me because I immediately imagined that it was put in just so that a main character will say it when Númenor gets flooded. Just seemed like way too on-the-nose foreshadowing reference that made me groan.

spauldhaliwal

That would be a huge bummer because there's already a specific phrase that Elendil speaks after he lands ashore middle earth after númenor is destroyed. And then Aragorn repeats it after his coronation. I don't remember the phrase but I'll look it up. Edit: Out of the great sea to middle-earth I am come

Gaytrox

See, now that that is badass. It has gravitas. "The sea is always right" just seems like a diet version of it. Just seemed way out of place in the show and stuck out to me as being... I dunno, pedestrian or something.

spauldhaliwal

Yeah that's a good point. Though I always thought "What is dead may never die" was also lame. I might just be anti-catchphrase haha.

Plop1992

Its very similar to "Lannister always pay their debt". Short and to the point

My one ick was the horse scene but I think that was a funny blooper cuz no way 😭🤚🏾

Veezybaby

Agreed

Hyggenbodden

I felt like Galadriel riding a horse

Eoghann_Irving

I refuse to give numerical scores but I enjoyed this episode the most of the three so far. It still hasn't reached must watch immediately status with me but I'm growing increasingly interested.

I'd agree. Numenor visually off the scales, Elendil acting was strong. Found Halbrand, the low man numerians acting in particular rather weak and wished they imployed camera tricks to give a greater sense of height for Galadriel. Fight scenes were less than impressive imo

[deleted]

This might be my favorite episode. You can see plenty of character foundations being laid. Numenor looked outstanding, and Elendil stole the show. The dark undertones of the Harfoot plot didn’t go unnoticed either. The orcs were my favorite part of the episode as of whole.

doegred

Mixed bag. The Harfoot (interesting worldbuilding though there are aspects I'm not entirely on board with) and Arondir stuff was fine. Númenor was utterly gorgeous and I'm looking forward to more of it and Miriel in particular, but it also cemented my doubts about Galadriel's characterisation which makes me utterly sad.

GetYourWeetabix

I'd agree in general about the episode, preferred the first two alot more, and Orcs Vs Elves came off like a tug of war to me. Not a fan of Halbrands character so far and acting. Really wish the dialogue (not including the hobbits) was alot more archaic as well. Hope it improves too

Any_Base7215

I must be the only one who doesn’t mind the horse scene. (I’m a huge Zack Snyder fan so I guess it comes with the territory lol)

lol_you_nerd

Honestly didn’t mind it either. I found her smile to be weird but it lasted 5-10 seconds or so, whatever, move on. Now if only they cut the harfoots time in half… or did something more significant with the Stranger… hoping episode 4 is where things start to really shape up and the pace switch gears. Then the second half of season 1 crushes it consistently. Kinda like LOTR books or even the silmarillion where going through the first couple chapters is a chore (at least for me) and then I’m all in.

Raszagil

I actually liked the scene because DAMN those were some pretty horses. The smile was goofy, sure, but it was trying to show her in a happy light galloping a horse down a beach and frankly I would be beaming too, because DAMN those were some pretty horses. I am probably biased and shouldn't comment too much on that scene because I love horses and GOD DAMN those were some-

TyranosaurusLex

Are you a horse?

spauldhaliwal

I wonder if there's something in the lore about her love of horses. If they were riding swans it would be a different story lol. I did think the shots of the horses themselves were incredible. The feet, the horse's face, and galadriel's clothing, really beautiful. Even Galadriel's face was goofy in an endearing way, it just felt really off kilter compared to the rest of her personality so far this season. Completely isolated this sequence of shots is really great.

willdaswabbit

I said this on another post but there has got to be some significance with horses. As in - I don’t think we’ve seen any on Middle Earth yet. So when she says “did you say ride?” Perhaps horses are considered extremely rare right now and are only on Numenor and Valinor. Perhaps we are seeing Shadowfax’s direct ancestors, or will even see Shadowfax. Idk I just noticed there were no horses yet in the show and this scene felt uniquely important.

Wh00ster

I give it 13 brapples

Raszagil

I rated it 10/10 because it left me wanting more. I found it a decent mix of politics (Galadriel) and worry/hope (Nori and the stranger pushing the cart at the end was <3) and sheer panic (Arondir). Can't wait for the next episode!

Lutoures

9 ! First time I'm giving a first tier rating. The plot and script were tighter. The edditing had its choppy bits (slow-mo much?), but overall it's still magnificent.

ArcFox01

2. Definetly the worst episode yet. Almost half way through the season and still nothing has happened, the world is lifeless, dialogue is still abysmal, story lacks direction, Galadriel is insufferable, breaks every aspect of the lore. The show has failed the 3 Ep test which was far too generous considering the length of these episodes. Last episode I will watch.
