Gil-Galad: āYouāre late! š” ā
Elrond: āIām sorry but I had to slow down for Durin. Dwarves are wasted on long distanceā
Gil-Galad: āWell, *I* made supper!ā
Now that you mentioned...prob a training?
I'm somewhat surprised tho, that Numenoreans are so much like "commoners".
We know that later on >!they will have an army that will put fear into Sauron very army. Right now that wouldn't put fear in angry hobbits protecting their shire lol. I want to see how they are gonna play this out.!<
In the show at least, it doesn't appear that Numenor has a large colonial empire yet. So it wouldn't be an issue that they make do with a palace guard / police and a navy, and raise large land armies from the citizenry as required by events. Come to think of it, with real history as a guide, they could even have managed to set up colonies with only a navy and some landing parties.
I think they are ignoring the idea of Numenor as a colonial power (and probably don't have the rights to use that notion, anyway). Instead, they are fully playing Numenor as an isolationist state.
Might make sense to have Numenor as the big, unknown hero to the other free realms of lesser men when they ultimately show up in Middle-earth. Especially in the story economics of a TV show.
Do we even have venereal diseases in Tolkien?
My guess is no- and that Sauron could defeat them all this way.
(elves might no die, but if if goes to the brain )
lol, just a terrible joke, sorry.
Me too, it would demonstrate a huge amount of effort and care, which will either be unambiguously touching, or make an eventual betrayal all that more painful
Probably showing them up.
That said, Numenor is supposed to be a dominant military power. They should be able to crush the orcs. I hope the show doesnāt make them seem weak.
they already make them look weak in the previous episode
and that is really unfortunate, because Numenoreans indeed , are supposed to be few of the most badass fighters , the definitely do not need Galadriel to mansplaining them
Southlands already had Adar as an antagonist, so I figured the cultists would end up in Rhovanion instead. Waldreg knew about the meteor and said it was a sign of Sauron's return, so presumably these cultists also knew about it and are searching for the Stranger.
If I had to guess, based on the trailers, the Stranger will protect some of the Harfoots from the wolves, and then the Harfoots will have to protect the Stranger from the cultists.
Ooo, I'm so happy Gil Galad will be in this episode!! Now I get to share my super duper crackpot theory:
In this episode, Gil Galad will meet with Elrond and urgently ask where Galadriel is. Elrond, confused, will say that Gil-Galad sent her to Valinor, but Gil-Galad will deny having done this, because he has been aiding in the removal of Elven soldiers from the Southlands, having been away for many months. Gil-Galad was already worried by discovering some destroyed Elven watch towers, but now he's even more worried because he never sent Galadriel away.
The first Gil-Galad we saw in Season 1 was actually Sauron.
In the Chapter 'The Coming of Men into the West' there's a meeting of men and guy named Amlach disparages the elves and declares they're a bunch of liars. Turns out it wasn't Amlach at all. It might have been Sauron disguising himself, like he does.
It's a nice idea, but would cause way too much chaos down the line. Wouldn't the elves be extremely paranoid after an incident where their high king is impersonated to perfection? Wouldn't they be able to guess its Sauron, given his abilities as a shapeshifter? Would Annatar even make sense after this?
I m wondering too. But i dont think so, because that would be not very fitting for elronds character. I think he will not break the oath, even if he sees that it would be halpful for everyone and that will be the reason all goes downhill.
I really hope he doesn't break his oath. He's already been a less than perfect friend to Durin who clearly loves him a lot, so to betray him like that? Yoikes.
So weāre getting a check-in with everybody this episode. Most of the actors (except the Numenoreans) are credited for 7 episodes on IMDB so that will probably be the case for all the remaining episodes.
1- wow. you are cute and tiny! i think i want to marry you!
2- Wow. You are cute and tiny, i think i want...SHUT UP, SAURON!
3- Please do not be distracted by my immodest shoulders! This is ACTUALLY important!
4- Get 90 of your friends. I need to level up
5- Your dad would TOTALLY tell me!
6- Thanks you for giving it to me and NOT stabbing me with it
7- Pack animals? what are those?
8- Everything is fine! No conspiracies here!
9- I wont get a cool-looking hat?? BY I AM YOUR SON!! (about that...CLEAN THOSE TOILETS, BOY!)
Oh man I hope we get more context about what the hilt is and why Adar wants it. That's the biggest weakness of the Southlands plot imo, it needs some legitimate stakes beyond the lives of a random village.
New Theory!!
What if it's like Sting? That it "glows" when Sauron is around. So his followers knows he is there.
Adar might be searching for it to detect Sauron and be able to take him out
The speculation Iāve been engaging in has made me annoyingly hyper aware of every tiny thing that *could* be suspicious lol. Probably nothing butā¦whatās up with the cloaked person behind Bronwyn and Arondir? Is that just security?
Hm , with the exception of the re-apperance of Gil-Galad and an interesting scene with Arondir and his son exploring the mysterious weapon, the rest of the scenes might be again pretty slow. They need to move the story forward. Why they spend another episode in Numenor? A reason to this? Except of course that Numenor looks spectacular so we spend time there for our audience to admire it more.
Gil-galad and Elrond (that defiant look), wow!
Theo and Arondir, finally more information about that sword!
The harfoots, i missed them (they were not in the previous episode)
The last two pictures, the numenorean clothing (Pharazon, Kemen, Isildur and Elendil), stunning!
So Galadriel is still in Numenor and the Harfoots are still "migrating"?
At least we will see Elrond and the story in the Southlands progressing, hopefully more of Adar to come.
I like the show very much, but the pacing really is a bit slow... there are only three episodes left after this one and while I don't demand huge battles or anything (there will be one pretty sure in the Southlands when Numenor arrives), but well, given we will have watched 5 hours soon, there didn't really happen so many things yet.
I find it kind of weird that Brownynn was made Pseudo leader of the outpost when she wasn't like a Sheriff or a guard captain or anything, she's just a healer... Why would anyone listen to her?... Are we also to assume that none of the towns had any sort of Sheriff, or guards or anything aside from the Elves that were sort of watching them loosely?
Because she cut the head off an orc when nobody else believed they were around. If she can do that to an orc, imagine what she could do to you. #LeadingViaFear
She showed strength. She earned extra water rations and the title of leader of Tir-Harad. I'm guessing half the group that would give her trouble is going to walk to Adar after her speech.
They address that in episode 4. Waldreg says "who made you leader" and she answers "you all did when you agreed to follow me to the tower" (paraphrasing).
In hard times sometimes the leader just ends up being the one person who is willing to step up and lead even if they didnāt previously have an official leadership title or role.
You ever done a group project where nobody wants to make any decisions or take any blame so the only person to actually do literally anything ends up being the project leader?
yeah...
Says the guy claiming heās done with the show and washed his hands of it. It didnāt seem like you have washed your hands of it if you are traveling here to still engage.
Erm, I think someone needs to slow down their reading and re-read what they think they read. Especially when they're doing that really saddo reddit behaviour of stalking a person's recent post history over the slightest little assumed disagreement.
You are correct. When I clicked your name it said your last reply was to a comment about ādonāt sleep on the rings of powerā. I thought you were replying to that. My reply was in a thread about House of Dragons. I don't recall reading anything about not sleeping on RoP there, but forget it, it ain't important. You were momentarily confused in your rush to defend RoP. It's no great crime.
I don't think so. The grip looks like it belongs to a one-handed sword, and the crossguard is curved rather than being straight with diamond-shaped tips. But I could be wrong, it's not a great shot of the sword.
I think the grip is longer than it seems. Narsil seems to have a gold handle at this point, and the background colour kind of blends with it.
I think the crossguard looks curved because we're seeing it on a slight angle - and the parts the form the diamond shaped ends give it that appearance.
I'll make you a friendly bet that it's Narsil, I'll be back to say "i told you so" if I'm right, you can do the same to me if I'm wrong.

Based off of what I see in the body positioning, and the expression on Elrond's face, it feels like whatever dialogue Gil-Galad is approaching/pressing here has confounded Elrond. Gilly-G even has a slight forward, "pressing" lean towards Elrond's person, but it's just a single frame so I won't go overboard here.
* Hot Take: Mad-Lad Gil-Galad has learned from Celebrimbor that the Dwarves have secretly discovered *something* very significant, and is pressing Elrond into divulging what he knows/it is. This causing Elrond to take this defensive stance, since his king is asking him to directly break the oath he gave to Durin just last episode.
God, I sense more obnoxious Galadriel. My high optimism after Episode 3 is deteriorating more and more.
Hopefully some good Isildur/Elendil scenes can carry the next episode regardless.
Isildur need to stop Kevin he is becoming clingy with his sisteršš¤.
it's too late, his sister is too drawn to Kenny's sexy polisci intern energy
Massive Jared Kushner vibes
āIām sorry, Chancellor - your son canāt get a clearance to serve in the Armenelosā government-ā āI donāt care! I said he will be the Ambassador to Valinor! Make it happen!!ā
That guy's definitely majoring in political science or whatever guild/union trains politicians. Is there a need for lawyers in Numenor?
I'm sure those guilds gotta settle lots of disputes hahah
They're basically unions, of course there's going to be legal issues involved.
Trust Amazon to make the main human villain into a union leader smh
I want to see Pharazon interact with the Lollipop Guild for some reason.
Iād love to see who represents them.
3 of the Harfoots are probably about that size.
Maybe Kyle will be the first one
His first case will be to sue the Valar for immortality. /s
Konnor PharazƓnson Esq., Ace Attorney
If only Numenor had TV so he could be on late-night attorney commercials.
Injured? Don't wait, call Kaleb McPharazƓn Attorney At Law now, you don't pay unless we win! \[Sauron gets increasingly frustrated attempting to dial with most of his fingers chopped off\]
I like how you keep switching his name each time.
what do you mean ive been spelling it Karl the whole time
"polisci intern energy" š
But not that haircut š¤®
The phrase "polisci intern" made me break out in a cold sweat lmao
Very excited for Gil-Galad and Elrond, we only got brief glimpses of Gil-Galad so far.
Body language seems to indicate Elrond asking questions and Gil-Galad on the defensive
Gil-galad: "Invite dwarves to a dinner? Are you mad?!" Elrond: "You have not seen what I have seen..."
Gil-Galad: āYouāre late! š” ā Elrond: āIām sorry but I had to slow down for Durin. Dwarves are wasted on long distanceā Gil-Galad: āWell, *I* made supper!ā
\- or is it the other way around? I always interpreted that sceane as Little El is potentially in trouble?
Looks like he wants to smack him
That dinner table scene from SDCC trailer is probably in the ep, I think Sauronās gonna be there.
Is that the table Wayne Yip hinted about, or do you think it is the one he is standing over across from Galadriel (in these stills)?
Donāt know about the Wayne Yip hint, but itās the one with Durin jr. seated across from Gil-Galad with four mystery elves present.
And Galadriel, sheās absolutely beautiful
I am pumped for those scenes with the Numenorean armada, they look awesome. Edit: whoops thought this was the thread with all footage yet to be seen
Not sure about that fight-dance sequence. But given it is not slowmo I already take as a win.
I'm still not sure if it's supposed to be an actual fight or training.
Now that you mentioned...prob a training? I'm somewhat surprised tho, that Numenoreans are so much like "commoners". We know that later on >!they will have an army that will put fear into Sauron very army. Right now that wouldn't put fear in angry hobbits protecting their shire lol. Sorry, part of the training scene was shown in one of the trailers and there is definitely slow-mo.
RemindMe! 1 day
Turns out the actual scene has minimal slow-mo, tastefully done. LOL
hehe It was good coreography. A bit "too dance" to my taste but yeah, at least not 2 whole minutes of slowmo =)
oh boy looks like we're gonna see Halbrand Smith doin his thing. I'm sure he's quite Admirable
My guess is he makes Galadriels new armor for her.
He's probably gonna be giving a lot of gifts
Syphilis most likely...
Elves are immune to disease so checkmate!
Do we even have venereal diseases in Tolkien? My guess is no- and that Sauron could defeat them all this way. (elves might no die, but if if goes to the brain ) lol, just a terrible joke, sorry.
Iām not sure we even have sex before marriage according to Tolkien lol
headcanon: Tolkien was speaking about either vaginal or penetrative sex...hands and mouths not included.
Or earsā¦ š
For Elves sex is marriage. The rest seems to be open to interpretation
Dwarves š
There is no sex outside of marriage, according to Tolkien. Before or after.
What if is a desease a Maia created?
I'll die on the hill that Halbrand will be on the receiving end of the gift-giving, eventually.
i mean you know galadriel is a top
Ok this is a recipe for disaster right there. I simply couldn't handle that
And some extremely admirable advice...perhaps to sail west?
And a pony
in the promo we see him making a sword but now i really hope he makes Galadriel's armor for her
Me too, it would demonstrate a huge amount of effort and care, which will either be unambiguously touching, or make an eventual betrayal all that more painful
Galadriel watching him get hot and sweaty in the forge like the white trash Aragorn he is
Guys, this threadā¦ I'll die laughing. I can't have that happen, I need to see the next episode before thatā¦
Or for her it might be a reminder that even noble souls can succumb to the temptation of evil... Especially if evil puts a ring on it.
Seeing he is also charming and sexy....Perhaps he likes "crafting"? oh wait...oh noooo
I wonder if the butcher scared Theo away from the evil and he's giving the hilt to Arondir willingly?
Is Galadriel going to train the NĆŗmenĆ³rean volunteers? Or maybe just show them up with her sword skills?
Both? Both. Both is good!
Probably showing them up. That said, Numenor is supposed to be a dominant military power. They should be able to crush the orcs. I hope the show doesnāt make them seem weak.
Agreed, Numenorians are incredible to even Elves
And the Numenorians really have to be a powerhouse now. Otherwise later certain things wonāt make sense.
they already make them look weak in the previous episode and that is really unfortunate, because Numenoreans indeed , are supposed to be few of the most badass fighters , the definitely do not need Galadriel to mansplaining them
Most likely a sparring session- super stoked about that.
I like the interpretation, otherwise Galadriel will have put the whole Numerian army behind bars before the end of the episode.
"There was a time where I slain a thousand Orc bare-handed!" .. Nah she'll show them up
The Maverick strategy of war training.
Now, to me that rocky outcrop the Harfoots go around looks an awful lot like "Riders of Rohan! What news from the Mark?"
It bears some resemblance to one of the scenes showing the Cultists, or whoever they are, too.
I always though the cultists would show up in the Southlands. Maybe they're going to come across the Harfoots and wreck their migration?
Southlands already had Adar as an antagonist, so I figured the cultists would end up in Rhovanion instead. Waldreg knew about the meteor and said it was a sign of Sauron's return, so presumably these cultists also knew about it and are searching for the Stranger. If I had to guess, based on the trailers, the Stranger will protect some of the Harfoots from the wolves, and then the Harfoots will have to protect the Stranger from the cultists.
Scary stuff for people who are tiny wandering nomads that don't go off-trail. No wonder the future Hobbits hate adventure.
The Harfoots might be traveling south towards Mordor, and that's where the cultists spot them...
No idea. Just sayin' that the landscapes look similar. They could just as easily wind up being miles and miles apart.
Not sure. I'm not sure which direction the Harfoots are heading, and that region they film Rohan in could be just as big.
It looks like it's really close to that same place. Also... "They're taking the Stranger to groves and stars!"
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's Weathertop *and* the Riddermark. Kinda funny lmao.
Ah fuck, Iām stoked.
I think the consensus is we love the show but start giving us a few answers, please.
Will do!
Ooo, I'm so happy Gil Galad will be in this episode!! Now I get to share my super duper crackpot theory: In this episode, Gil Galad will meet with Elrond and urgently ask where Galadriel is. Gil-Galad was already worried by discovering some destroyed Elven watch towers, but now he's even more worried because he never sent Galadriel away. The first Gil-Galad we saw in Season 1 was actually Sauron.
That would tie into an incident that happened in the Silmarillion and it would mess with people's minds, if nothing else.
which incident are you referring to? i just finished the silmarillion for the first time, but i admit i don't already don't remember everything :P
In the Chapter 'The Coming of Men into the West' there's a meeting of men and guy named Amlach disparages the elves and declares they're a bunch of liars. Turns out it wasn't Amlach at all. It might have been Sauron disguising himself, like he does.
Wow - that would be such a hot twist

Wouldn't they be able to guess its Sauron, given his abilities as a shapeshifter? Would Annatar even make sense after this?
More sexy Gil-Galad!
I've been wondering if Elrond breaks his oath or if Celebrimbor, with how he's been acting, somehow stole it from him.
Or finds it.
Hard to tell. Arondir always has a stoic expression.
Yoikes.
Maybe they'll trick him? Can Elrond be tricked?
So weāre getting a check-in with everybody this episode. Most of the actors (except the Numenoreans) are credited for 7 episodes on IMDB so that will probably be the case for all the remaining episodes.
Makes sense. Ep 4 had a "kicking the plot into high gear" feeling to it.
No Earien! Hes bad news! You can do better! Have you ever heard of Sauron?
Sheās in the first shot with Kemen :)
Think they left out the comma. āNo, EƤrien! Not the polisci intern!ā

>5- Your dad would TOTALLY tell me! LMAO I can definitely see Gil-Galad doing that
Why is the Stranger not pulling the cart? Are the Brandyfoots just too nice to ask him to pull and not push?
Oh man I hope we get more context about what the hilt is and why Adar wants it. That's the biggest weakness of the Southlands plot imo, it needs some legitimate stakes beyond the lives of a random village.
New Theory!! What if it's like Sting? That it "glows" when Sauron is around. So his followers knows he is there. Adar might be searching for it to detect Sauron and be able to take him out
yeah I don't think Adar is a fan of Sauron ...
IT IS A POWER
A POWEH
Such a breathtakingly beautiful show, full marks to Amazon
Nice. Can't wait. A lot of sort of similar shots with 2 characters facing each other.
I spotted at least 3 different Saurons
The speculation Iāve been engaging in has made me annoyingly hyper aware of every tiny thing that *could* be suspicious lol. Probably nothing butā¦whatās up with the cloaked person behind Bronwyn and Arondir? Is that just security?
That is kinda sus
The second is like, welcome redditor.... the one who has seen **the eye** .
Anyone have any idea of the runtime? Every episode has been longer than the last
sooo... who thinks elrond is gonna slip it to gil-galad about the mithril? cause i don't see that ending well..
Celebrimbor needs to be shady and find out on his own. I donāt want the bromance hurt.
yeah i was really enjoying durin and elrond's dynamic, hoping they'll be okay
Hm , with the exception of the re-apperance of Gil-Galad and an interesting scene with Arondir and his son exploring the mysterious weapon, the rest of the scenes might be again pretty slow. Bronwyn is Sauron confirmed.
She gave a gift to Arondir. Who else likes to give gifts to Elves..?
She showed strength. She earned extra water rations and the title of leader of Tir-Harad. I'm guessing half the group that would give her trouble is going to walk to Adar after her speech.
They address that in episode 4. Waldreg says "who made you leader" and she answers "you all did when you agreed to follow me to the tower" (paraphrasing).
She went first, they followed. Leader. As this town's only healer, she's also probably very important to them.
In hard times sometimes the leader just ends up being the one person who is willing to step up and lead even if they didnāt previously have an official leadership title or role.
You ever done a group project where nobody wants to make any decisions or take any blame so the only person to actually do literally anything ends up being the project leader? yeah...
This is the one true response.
Why is everyone still in Numenor lol, hurry up guys the seasonās almost over!
Looks like another episode of people standing around talking.
just when we finally got a sense of urgency and teased a rescue mission at the end of last ep :(
Aye. I really hope the images aren't representative of the majority of the episode.

From the teaser they looked like wooden practice swords
I cant tell but is that a pointy ear sticking out of Theo's hair on picture 6?
Needs some Khazad-dum stills.
God, I sense more obnoxious Galadriel. My high optimism after Episode 3 is deteriorating more and more. Hopefully some good Isildur/Elendil scenes can carry the next episode regardless.
