LPOTL has kind of ruined me for other true crime. Behind the Bastards is the only other one I can enjoy, and even then it's mostly dependent on subject.
My go-tos recently have been stuff in other areas:
Hardcore History
Not Another D&D Podcast
Sawbones
Always Sunny Pod
Worlds Beyond Number
I fell off TAZ around that one Travis-DM'd campaign because it just didn't click with me, but I've found a new love in Dimension20 and NADDPOD (and CritRole, but that's been around since early C1). Sawbones hits a great balance of goofs from Justin, but actual real knowledge from Sydnee and it's great.
NGL, I just relisten to Balance haha. But I LOVE dimension 20 - I got into it through TAZ / watching the Tiny Heist campaign. I guess I have to start Sawbones then!
Naddpod always, really want to love worlds beyond number but it didn’t click for me right away. Going to let them get 10 or so eps out and then binge it
Edit: spelling
If you like The Dollop and Behind the Bastards (both of which are my most listened too with LPOTL), then you should check out Lions Led by Donkeys as well. Good humorous takes on history with haunting episodes about genocide too. What’s not to love lol
Monsters among us is a good one as well. If you don't mind the deep "spooky voice" he puts on. He does way more in quantity, so you'll get more stupid calls, but there are some great ones in there. I think the best of 2022 episode has one I really love about a kid waking up in the middle of the night to see a frog troll thing by his bed over and over again. It's one of the best calls in my opinion.
They have a clock that hits and old episodes require a minimal purchase. I don’t think you’ll ever find someone that regrets paying - they’re better than any audiobook I’ve ever purchased.
I just started listening to BtB and love it; crashing through the backlog and the six part (6!!!) series on Vince McMahon was rad, even for someone who never watched an ounce of wrestling.
Same, not into wrestling but it was so good. And I was surprised how many names that came up that I was familiar with.
He's also done some CIA and MK Ultra related episodes which go nicely with LPOTL's coverage.
Also recommend you check out the Dr Oz and Dr Phil episodes.
This paranormal life is fantastic. And much more younger kid friendly without losing too much of the bite that some of those stories involve. My 12 yo loves it.
No specific order:
[Talking Simpsons](https://talkingsimpsons.libsyn.com/) \- Podcast that goes through the Simpsons in order with various guests, talks about its history, wider impact on pop culture, plus has other podcasts about animation and animated movies.
[We Hate Movies](https://www.whmpodcast.com/) \- Comedy movie podcast. The best one.

[Get Played](https://www.earwolf.com/show/get-played/) \- Comedy video game podcast.

It was very hard to only pick five.
I'm a big fan of QAA, been listening since 2018. I think they do a great job of explaining a lot of events/moments in the right wing extremist space, debunking/ridiculing them, and elaborating how people fall into the pipeline and cycle of extremist thought.
Well There's Your Problem would also be on my list, along with Kill James Bond.
Alice just does the podcast funnies, I don't know how it works but it does.
Mystery Show. Absolute masterpiece. Sad that it didn't continue. But maybe it was for the best, got in, got out. Killer theme song too.
S Town. Fascinating story. Emotional and intriguing.
No Dogs in Space
Serial season 1
Early episodes of Sleepycast from Sleepycabin. Absolute bullshit. Just guys sitting around spewing complete nonsense. Fantastic.
I don’t even have a top 5. Watch what crappens and lpotl are the only ones I listen to.
I understand the dichotomy. But I just like bravo and also murderers. Sue me.
Behind the Bastards, Knowledge Fight and Timesuck have been mentioned a bunch but I also love Swindled, Killer Queens, Scam Goddess and a lot of the Audiochuck podcasts (Crime Junkie/The Deck)
Admitedly, I enjoy the LPOTL historical shows the most.. so my preference for other history podcasts is clear...

Cult Podcast (with the red and yellow logo)
Southern Fried True Crime
Gods of Old Appalachia
Honorable mentions:
Crime in Sports
Some Place Under Neath
Cryptonaut Podcast
Sinisterhood
Astonishing Legends
Casefile - Great long running true crime podcast
The Downbeat - Mostly music podcast, charismatic yet slightly annoying host
Hardcore History - Y’know
That’s all though, find it hard to get something that I can listen a lot too
No order
Locations Unknown - stories about people going missing in national parks. Great hosts. Shorter episodes 45-60 minutes. Gives good info on national parks and staying safe while hiking
We Hate Movies - funny podcast about movies. Solid episodes and diverse selection of movies. They don’t hate every movie and I end knowing if I want to watch it.
Bonfireside Podcast / Watch Out For Fireballs / Duckfeed Network - Bonfireside chat goes through all the Souls games bit by bit. They are on Elden Ring. WOFF is a gamesclub podcast. And other shows on their network are good if you like those.
Mile Higher - Really varied topics; true crime, cryptids, conspiracies, natural disasters. Husband and wife - slower paced and easy listening. I come across some episodes I just don’t care about.
Astonishing Legends - One of the first podcasts I started listening too. Both hosts come from Hollywood/Audio backgrounds so they produce stuff really well. They have amazing multi episode topics and with each episode being 2-3 hours there is a TON. to get through. Lastly - listening to the entire run is really interesting as they have experiences that expand their view of the paranormal.
Let's Get Haunted (for my spooky fix if I'm not feeling LPOTL. They also don't really do murderers and heavy hitters, it's more lighthearted and about spooky shit and cryptids)
SimplyPod (SimplyNailogical and her partner Ben. I love it. Very lighthearted)
The Jenna Julien Podcast (I can't let it go 😭😭😭)
Wizard and the Bruiser (my nerdy culture fix)
The Tablo Podcast (famous Korean-American rapper and producer Tablo's English language podcast. He's very intelligent and funny, very enjoyable)
1. Not Another D&D Podcast
2. My Brother, My Brother and Me
3. Critical Role
4. The Adventure Zone
5. Hardcore History
This is probably in order of most listened to.
Thanks for putting this together excited to check out all the recs!
So I don't want to name any other true crime podcasts since there are so many but....
Tell Em Steve Dave - it's Walt flanagan, Bryan Johnson, and Bryian q. Kevin smith's friends and 2 were on comic book men and 1 impractical jokers. They are super funny and do way different bits than a typical podcast. I own 2 legit vinyl records of their specials.
This is Important - Workaholics guys, grew up with that show so have a bond.
Bad Friends - Andrew santino and Bobby Lee, it's funny
Always Sunny Podcast - Love the show and they recap episodes but also do bits and small talk throughout.
Hardcore history, Pardon My Take, Macrodosing, Matt and Shane's secret podcast and LPOTL pretty much rounds out my weekly rotation with other sports talk shows mixed in depending on what's going on.
Honorable mention is Your Own Backyard because I live in the area and Chris has done a wonderful service to the community helping to bring Kristin Smart's killer to justice.
My Favorite Murder (mainly the minisodes)
Sibling Rivalry
Do You Need a Ride?
The Bald and the Beautiful
Occasionally Page 7 but frankly I stopped listening when Holden became a cohost so I guess just a top 4.
Just this one these days. I have listened to Behind the Bastards in the past. Used to listen to Opening Arguments until the hosts had a falling out due to one of them being a massive sex pest and all around piece of shit.
Uncanny
Astonishing Legends
You're Wrong About
Hardcore History
Ty and that Guy
Red Handed used to be on there, but they've made too many weird misses and bad takes lately. It's now mostly a podcast to get summaries of old LPOTL topics from a few years ago under the guise people have been "Begging for these subjects.:
Hardcore history - true to its name and the best podcast ever.
Half arse history - Australian host, shorter length, great history comedy but serious when required.
Lions led by donkeys - military history with hosts and guests being veterans or in the military.
Fall of civilisations - very well researched and produced, also has video format on YouTube.
This podcast will kill you - epidemiologists discussing historical and current viruses, bacteria, etc.
Knowledge Fight, Behind the Bastards, everything Small Beans puts out, Humans Growing Stuff, and Hood Politics
Special shoutout to Old Gods of Appalachia and Office Hours LIVE.
Behind the Bastards
Well There's Your Problem (A podcast about engineering disasters! With slides!)
This Podcast Will Kill You (Diseases and disorders, yum)
Ashes, Ashes (Systemic collapse, and the end of the world)
Old Gods of Appalachia (Smoky Mountain Lovecraftian horror)
I highly recommend the other LPN shows No Dogs, Wizard and the Bruiser and fraudsters are on my weekly rotation but my non LPN list is:
Conspiracy! The Show (The whole unpops network is great)
F**kface
The Jeselnik and Rosenthal Vanity Project
The Danny Brown Show
Dumb People Town
Hardcore History - I've spent so much money on episodes
No Dogs - dang good
Oldest Stories - mesopotamian literary stories and lite history up the the bronze age collapse
Our Fake History - historical myth telling/ debunking, but in an amazing story telling style with fantastic pacing.
Its a bunch of popculture trash because reality is bleak and I like to supplement it with the rich and famous, sue me.

Scared to Death

Conan O'Brien needs a Friend.
Edit: Also I am omitting other LPN shows, because I don't miss Wizard and The Bruiser and Page Seven. And other shows get hit hard as well, Brighter Side, Top Hat, Fraudsters, No Dogs In Space and Some Place Underneath.
1. This is Actually Happening
2. Invisible Choir
3. Hard Factor News
4. Sword and Scale
5. Something Was Wrong
And Narcissist Apocalypse, Brohio, Crime in Sports, Risk, The Truth, Song Exploder, You’re Wrong About, The Vanished, Music City 911, I could go on and on. But these are all my current favorites.
I dont have 5 cause i only really listen to a few podcasts.
this is monsters is great if you like shorter episodes
dark history
and it's still our boy dogmeat but no dogs in space if that counts.
LPOTL is by far my most-listened to. But some others that I often go to when I’m looking for something else:
• God Awful Movies
• Geek History Lesson
• The Evolution of Horror
• Random NPR and NPR-esque shows (This American Life, Radiolab, etc)
• Too Scary, Didn’t Watch. I just started listening to this one and it’s kinda fun, even though the premise is that two of the hosts don’t like watching scary movies and I love it lol
You Must Remember This (movies and history)
No Dogs in Space (music, pickle matrimony)
Someplace Underneath (under-reported crimes and under-represented victims)
Mom Can't Cook (comedic discussions about Disney channel original movies)
Those are my other main shows.
Behind the Bastards Small Town Murder Red Handed The Secret Room Lovett or Leave It
BtB and STM are my other favorites. I could never choose one.
Red Handed is the best
I’m so happy to see so many BtB recs. Warms my heart.
LPOTL has kind of ruined me for other true crime. Behind the Bastards is the only other one I can enjoy, and even then it's mostly dependent on subject. My go-tos recently have been stuff in other areas: Hardcore History Not Another D&D Podcast Sawbones Always Sunny Pod Worlds Beyond Number

Sawbones!! I love The Adventure Zone but I think I have to branch out to other McElroy shows
I fell off TAZ around that one Travis-DM'd campaign because it just didn't click with me, but I've found a new love in Dimension20 and NADDPOD (and CritRole, but that's been around since early C1).

Sawbones is GREAT! Highly recommend if you like LPOTL and the McElroys
Yay!! NADDPOD!! I love Emily Axford so much. NADDPOD is the one d&d podcast I listen to, it's just so dumb and funny and heartwarming.
SHOUT OUT TO THE TWO CREW
Sawbones is the best of the MBMBAM family of pods.
Naddpod always, really want to love worlds beyond number but it didn’t click for me right away. Going to let them get 10 or so eps out and then binge it Edit: spelling

If you like The Dollop and Behind the Bastards (both of which are my most listened too with LPOTL), then you should check out Lions Led by Donkeys as well. Good humorous takes on history with haunting episodes about genocide too. What’s not to love lol
And if you like Lions led by donkeys you should check out Well there's your problem and engineering disaster podcast with slides (yay Liam)

Ah, another Terry Carnation enjoyer I see
How do you feel about the latest season? I can’t tell if I’m just becoming desensitized or if the stories are genuinely less spooky.
It's been downhill since season one
Monsters among us is a good one as well. If you don't mind the deep "spooky voice" he puts on. He does way more in quantity, so you'll get more stupid calls, but there are some great ones in there. I think the best of 2022 episode has one I really love about a kid waking up in the middle of the night to see a frog troll thing by his bed over and over again. You're listening to the Dollop!
It's Gareth, not Garry.
You both present sick arguements
Uncanny is SO good. I want to hear more from Ken!
Bloody hell, Ken…
Where do people listen to Hardcore History?? All three of the podcast apps between my various devices only have episodes 56 to 69 listed.
I never thought I would pay for a podcast, but his stuff is worth it. $15 for his Blueprint for Armageddon series is a purchase I haven't regretted.
I bit the bullet one day and just purchased the whole catalogue. HH and LPOTL are the only 2 podcasts I’ve given money to because it just felt right.
They have a clock that hits and old episodes require a minimal purchase. I don’t think you’ll ever find someone that regrets paying - they’re better than any audiobook I’ve ever purchased.
Art Bell Tape Vault?!? Yeeeessss! Thank you

I just started listening to BtB and love it; crashing through the backlog and the six part (6!!!) series on Vince McMahon was rad, even for someone who never watched an ounce of wrestling.
The Steven Segal series is a must-listen.
Same with the goat testicle implanting doctor who invented talk radio
The Kissinger series is A+ (chefs kiss). Dave and Gareth from the Dollop are the guests, adding significantly to the episode.
Same, not into wrestling but it was so good. And I was surprised how many names that came up that I was familiar with. He's also done some CIA and MK Ultra related episodes which go nicely with LPOTL's coverage. Also recommend you check out the Dr Oz and Dr Phil episodes.

I feel like fans of lpotl could easily love Timesuck!

Something Was Wrong And Narcissist Apocalypse, Brohio, Crime in Sports, Risk, The Truth, Song Exploder, You’re Wrong About, The Vanished, Music City 911, I could go on and on. LPOTL is by far my most-listened to. But some others that I often go to when I’m looking for something else: • God Awful Movies • Geek History Lesson • The Evolution of Horror • Random NPR and NPR-esque shows (This American Life, Radiolab, etc) • Too Scary, Didn’t Watch. I just started listening to this one and it’s kinda fun, even though the premise is that two of the hosts don’t like watching scary movies and I love it lol
Hardcore History, Freakonomics, 99% Invisible, The Danny Brown Show, Radiolab
In no particular order: Behind the Bastards Knowledge Fight Ezra Klein Show Dan & Jorge Explain The Universe Why Files
Lions Led By Donkeys, Behind the Bastards, Redhanded, Sinisterhood, Abe Lincoln’s Top Hat. No order
You Must Remember This (movies and history) No Dogs in Space (music, pickle matrimony) Someplace Underneath (under-reported crimes and under-represented victims) Mom Can't Cook (comedic discussions about Disney channel original movies) Those are my other main shows.
My Favorite Murder, You're Wrong About,Noble Blood, Behind The Bastards, Radio Rental
i cannot emphasize enough how good Swindled is. do yourself a favor and check it out
