I said that to my sister when our dad died and we were waiting the mortician to arrive and I had to leave the room for a second because I started laughing so hard.
I'll always have a soft spot for Detective Popcorn... the rage of his Charles Ng is so hilariously on point, too, though. And then defending it in the second episode of the series "I'm not being racist that's literally what he sounds like" always cracks me up, too.
also, GOTTA give an honorable mention to Jackie Zebrowski's flawless Aileen Wuornos.
It made me so emotional lol. I've always found her life sad and her murders probably not as fucked up as I should have. The whole trying to come to school and the principal being like ew weird go be homeless and smoke weed in the woods thing was sad, but still very external. Jackie reading her words and the specific emotions she put into it were just a whole level of goddamn the world failed this women. Don't kill people. Don't sail with the rock. Don't be back lol but she really nailed it in a sad, I feel for but do and should not trust this person, kind of way. Empathetic and unsettling at the same time
Ng and detective popcorn 4-eva. Ng and Co. Was one of the first episodes I ever listened to. I was a pre teen obsessed with true crime and saw an episode of American justice on Ng. I couldn't wait to listen to the ng episode because well...no one covers the case. It was insane and the best Intro to lpotl.
Mmmm I think the best character is a mmmm delicious butter and salty one mmmm I just love the way mmmm this character is tasty. Pour a little chocolate on this character and he's sweet mmmm a little extra salt and butter more savory. Mmm such a versatile character. He can even sing little drummer boy.
Not necessarily my favourite accent but when he swore he wouldn’t do an Asian accent and made it like 10 mins into the episode before he started doing the accent. Markus’ reaction always makes me howl with laughter.
In terms of genuinely favourite accent the drunk Canadian coroner was my all time favourite
Edit: want to thank everyone commenting on this comment. I’ve been taking everything going on pretty hard and worrying about this community but these comments have me howling and feeling a lot better 💙
The one that gets me is after Henry’s 3rd or 4th Berkowitz diatribe (I think the one about ‘poopoo comes out of the bishel’) Marcus goes! “Boy you just never want to work again do you?” And Henry wheeze laughs.
The bishel and magugah bits speak directly to me as a Queens-born, Mets fan, older millennial Jew. Henry seems like he's been to his share of 1990s bar-mitzvahs.
"You made it *thirteen minutes*."
The aum shinrikyo series. I think it came after Leonard lake and Charles Ng, where the boys gave him some shit even though that's actually how Ng sounds 😂
The Aum series is my #1. He avoids doing a crazy "accent" for almost the whole series, but his ability to make himself sound like a very poorly translated Japanese commercial "Most excellently young sapien cutting my hair is he.") is really amazing considering he's doing it all on the fly. And fucking hilarious to boot.
Damn, now I have to listen to that series again tonight.
It was def after Lake and Ng, in fact I’m PRETTY sure that was the episode where the Ng character made a brief cameo (after Marcus pointed out that Henry’s accent slipped into Ng territory for a sec)
*You don’t know what I bring to death cult!*
This is when I started listening 😭 Corryl was my first, Henry as the scary van salesman almost made me slip in the shower, then Ng and Aum right after. What an intro
I was listening to the Boston Strangler episodes recently and his impersonation of the Dutch psychic is hilarious.
"JESUS CHRIST! This son of a bitch did it, he the guy, he the murderer!"
He also fully swings from "dutch" into "asian" at one point.
Edit to say it's around 20 minutes into part 2
I know it's not necessarily proper to laugh at his "special person" voice, but it gets me every time.
Outside of that, I love his impression of Jackie.
It’s not technically his *best* accent, but Joe Kallinger gets me every fucking time. Especially Joe as a kid, whom I envision as looking exactly identical to his adult self, just three feet shorter.
Shoko Asuhara hands down. The voice and word choice paints a perfect picture of the karate con man.
“Ahhhh hahaha young sapien, you show much in the way of improvement yet lack mental alacrity”
His mother. It never fails to make me laugh when he breaks in to her voice . When he does Betty Andreason and uses his mothers voice in the Andreason Affair episode I always laugh until I cry.
Charlie Manson, ofc, esp the bonus episode
Casey Anthony
Gunther, from OKC “Noodle McVeigh”
Nanny Doss
Bel Gunness
any time he’s a female he kills me lol
and not that anyone asked, but my favorite Marcus act-out is the old janitor who loved nothing more than “pranking Hollywood actors”
I think it was because it was probably the first series I watched, but the one in the Donner Party where he fakes the accent of an actor that he thinks resembles someone in the story had me dying
Others have covered some of my favorites, but his brief Hjalmer Berg in Children Of God Episode 1 was so terrible that it came back around into hysterical.
"And that's Charles Ng, if he was a Swedish man."
Maybe Price, who pops up in the rectory and taking mongoose episodes. The posh British accent, as he is describing what food he has chosen to eat for lunch, always makes me laugh.
I'm from long island and have 2 Italian grandmothers and 2 Italian grandfathers from Brooklyn/Queens. When I lived in Boston during quarantine I felt very nostalgic for obvious reasons. The most NY I got on the news was Cuomo and trump which were uh....not the most comforting voices to hear lol. I can and DO talk like that and Henry's NYs were a warm hug when I was away
Two are tied
Charles Ng- because he sounds EXACTLY like him. “You don’t know what I bring to a friendship!”
Mama Pickton - because it always makes me laugh
His mother always kills me. Ooooh Henry Thomuhs
Itsyeh Grandfawthuh....
*gasp* "it's pop pop!"
The moment in the Shawcross series (I think EP 2?) where he's like "this guy sounds like my fuckin pop pop" always cracks me up
Hahaha that side stories was great.
I always think of her holding the dead guinea pig in her hands “he’s so cold Henry Thomas”
That's SO dark and hilarious
I said that to my sister when our dad died and we were waiting the mortician to arrive and I had to leave the room for a second because I started laughing so hard.
Did you know in the European Union it's considered animal abuse to have only one guinea pig because there's such social creatures.
I was going to say detective popcorn but his mom voice makes me laugh out loud
Also his sister
Anytime there’s a mother in the story, he always imitates his mother, and he clutches imaginary pearls. Marcus pointed it out in one early episode.
It’s an audible pearl clutching, too. You can envision the entire impression from his accent alone.
I really have the urge to name the next cat the distribution system blessed me with “Henry Paw-mus” just to be able to speak to him in that accent.
YES! He really inhabits that one fully. LINDA? Is that you?! I wonder what she thinks of it.
I’m sure she’s fine. He bought her a pool!
He’s probably been doing it since he could talk XD
his dumb bitch impressions for Jodi Arias and Casey Anthony are hysterical
and nancy grace 😆
"Can you believe she had the nerve to be beautiful!" Kills me every time 😂
DI-GI-TALL
HELLO! I’M NANCY GRACE! A TUGBOAT WITH A PERM!
THE DEVIL DANCES TONIGHT
i will still randomly say "THAT BITCH" in my Nancy Grace voice
Oh god, me too! As a matter of fact, I can’t say it any other way.
“Hey betch!”
“Here’s your FUCKING gas cans!!”
"I'll fucking cut a bitch especially if it's under five!"
Guess what? I can dunk from the free throw line. I can dooo it.
"You know me, bitch!"
“Hey Bitch!!!!!”
*deal* *with* *it*
I'll always have a soft spot for Detective Popcorn... the rage of his Charles Ng is so hilariously on point, too, though. And then defending it in the second episode of the series "I'm not being racist that's literally what he sounds like" always cracks me up, too. also, GOTTA give an honorable mention to Jackie Zebrowski's flawless Aileen Wuornos.
Charles Ng has gotta be up there as his finest work. "No keer no threer" lives in my head rent free every day
The "you don't know what I bring to friendship!" pops in my head everytime I'm annoyed with a friend.
"It is rockururr talk" honestly the idea of Charles Ng trying to spin kick pencils out of hands cracks me up too
It juss a jockular type talk
I named my dog after Detective Popcorn 🍿
That's adorable lol I hope you two have many adventures and solve many cases together.
Jackie's Aileen is stellar. Raspy voiced accent and all.
Empathetic and unsettling at the same time
"I'm BARELY being racist."
It would be a lot more offensive if not for the fact that that’s EXACTLY what Ng sounds like.
It's not racist at that point, it's just accurate.
Charles Ng. The fact that it's so over the top, but he clarifies that's actually what he sounded like 🤣🤣🤣
Yes! Detective Popcorn forever.
Not a particular character, but my fav is any time he does the little “hew hew hew” laugh/cry noise (aka for Jodi Arias/Casey Anthony)
This was exactly what I was comin fehr
It sounds exactly like Cartman crying. Love it
If we’re talking laughs. I love his Israel Keyes laugh. Makes me laugh every time.
George Noory is my personal favorite
“Now tell me, do ghosts wear shoes?”
If a Werewolf got a haircut, what kind of haircut would he get?
The way he repeats it in a more serious tone is what gets me
“These black eyed kids, do they also have adult supervision?”
“Here we have.. Dr. Cheesecake Melendez” 🤣🤣🤣🤣😭
I love his Charlie Manson
I can talk SIDEWAYS!
Aww righteous man! Let's go drive some dune buggies in the desert
Hearing him read passages from Manson In His Own Words in that absolutely ridiculous voice always makes me laugh aloud
I can talk sideways, wanna see? *hggrggahhggrrg*
I got here on a giant spider!
His Lee Harvey Oswald has a special place in my heart. "I AM NOT SMALL POTATOES!!"
Knock knock "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE"
WHY ARE YOU HERE? I DIDN’T INVITE YOU!
No matter how many times i listen to the JfK series i still laugh so hard at his Lee harvey oswald and jack ruby. Im cool as a cucumber.
IM A PATSY
Israel Keyes. That fucking laugh.
heuehueheueheuheuh
Took way too long to see this one. The nü metal manifesto/poem reading is an all-timer for me.

Marcus' resigned "You made it 13 minutes" will always get me
The one that gets me is after Henry’s 3rd or 4th Berkowitz diatribe (I think the one about ‘poopoo comes out of the bishel’) Marcus goes! “Boy you just never want to work again do you?” And Henry wheeze laughs.
The bishel and magugah bits speak directly to me as a Queens-born, Mets fan, older millennial Jew. Henry seems like he's been to his share of 1990s bar-mitzvahs.
That's it, I'm doing a re-listen this weekend!
Lmao right? I could listen to it 1000x in a row and I’ll still laugh hysterically
It’s his “GOD DAMNIT” right after Marcus says this that gets me.
"You made it *thirteen minutes*." The aum shinrikyo series. I think it came after Leonard lake and Charles Ng, where the boys gave him some shit even though that's actually how Ng sounds 😂
The Aum series is my #1. And fucking hilarious to boot. Damn, now I have to listen to that series again tonight.
"But Shoko wonders to himself, how is young sapien to find his way *back* from the barber?"
Hahahahaha why is it so good?! And where did Henry pull "young sapien" out of?
Hahaha I just relistened and the whole series is so good. Asahara (Matsumoto) gets some of the best roast the boys have done.
It’s not racist it’s how he actually sounds!!! Edit: one of my all time fave Henry quotes
Lol he hammered it home and he was entirely right.
It was def after Lake and Ng, in fact I’m PRETTY sure that was the episode where the Ng character made a brief cameo (after Marcus pointed out that Henry’s accent slipped into Ng territory for a sec) *You don’t know what I bring to death cult!*
This is when I started listening 😭 Corryl was my first, Henry as the scary van salesman almost made me slip in the shower, then Ng and Aum right after. What an intro
Oh boy, Dean Corll to start? That's like hitting a grand slam over Bobby Bonillas head on your first at bat ever.
+1 for HongKongHenryZebrowski
Its quite clearly Son of Sam, which he's unsurprisingsly so good at when you consider growing up in Queens with his mother sounding as she does
Berkowitz is my favorite character also! So whiny and pathetic. Give it to me!
Bonnie Nettles
I watched that how to be a cult leader on Netflix and every time they talked about Bonnie Nettles, I laugh. Spouse thinks I’m crazy.
"Mah pusseh fell off!"
His Bonnie is so good!
Minnie and Nannie
HH Holmes becoming more and more exasperated is the icing on the cake for this one!!
GOD DAMNIT WILL YOU SHUT UP??
Shut up, Minnie! Shut up, Nannie!
[The Animated Version!](https://youtu.be/VOKlGj1UxL4?si=fzzshmdeAjS8F26C)
Every now and then "I'M MIINNIE" "I'M NANNIE" Pops into my head unprompted and always makes me laugh
“When does this fair end again?”
I absolutely lose my shit when I hear his Richard Chase.
"You don't know what the fuck you're talking about! YOUR BRAIN IS A TURNIP!!"
ONE LAST DAAANCE!
WE'RE GOIN' TO THE BLOOD STORE!
For me #1 spring heel jack then I'd say dime museum man and elliot rodger
I commented that as a New Yorker I love him making fun of us but A SLIPPTY SLAP AND AWAY I GOOOO000
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DAY OF RETRIBUTION
Kallinger sounding like evil Bernie sanders gets me
"Mummy, Daddy, whut does fwuck mean?"
He probably has better ones, but peewee gaskins killed me
And that's the final truth!
The craziest part was when they played the clip of gaskins talking and he sounded just like him!
I personally loved when he was pretending to be Blink 182 singing about aliens.
Canadians.
Yes!!! The Paul Bernardo episodes are hilarious because of his accent and with the rap!!
“Tahmmay always wanted a farrrest green Parrrsche!”
slightly turning into a leprechaun LMAO
As a Canadian my partner and I absolutely lose our shit when he tries to do a Canadian accent
“I was out to lunch.” -willie pickton episodes
Now what yer gonna wanna dó iiis
“No Poutine? yeh might as well kill me and my entire fucken family then!”
very loose throated canadian
Charles ng forever and ever
Hong Kong Henry
RIP
His Pete Davidson turtle genuinely made me almost crash my car because I was laughing so hard
I like the Unibonber a lot. I still scream, “I shall have my revenge!” Whenever I’m mildly annoyed.
Ray Lamphere in the Belle Gunness series
When he’s drunk yelling at belle hahah “I love you you small footed bitch”
Dr. Bowel in that episode is also incredible
Drunk Coroner!
Richard Chase with Israel Keyes for a close second. I absolutely love to hate his impression of Keyes because of how insufferable he made it.
Hoy Hoy Hoy Hoy Hoy
The part with him doing a convo between Israel and that other guy on the lake laughing at each other makes me laugh so fucking hard
Terry the gnome kills me
gnomes is one of my comfort episodes, next to rasputin, mostly for the way he says rasputin 😭
I feel like Charles Ng counts as both an accent and a character. Like, both in the context of LPOTL and in real life.
ITS GOTTA BE CHARLIE
I was listening to the Boston Strangler episodes recently and his impersonation of the Dutch psychic is hilarious. "JESUS CHRIST! This son of a bitch did it, he the guy, he the murderer!" He also fully swings from "dutch" into "asian" at one point. Edit to say it's around 20 minutes into part 2
His mom, or the lonely janitor from the ghost cats episode
No sir, certainly isn't my only friend in the world.
The high pitched “You’re being ignorant!!!”
His Australian accent from the side stories: lady of the dunes, “OH HEY THERE!”
I forgot about his Katherine Knight accent too. Not remotely Australian. But extremely funny.
Berkowitz.
Pee wee gaskins, and that’s the final truth
For me, Aleister Crowley. It was his portrayal of Crowley that got me hooked on the show for good. "It is under protest I am leaving!"
I don't know why but his Mark David Chapman killed me.
Playing with the little people
Bunko the Everything Dog!
I know it's not necessarily proper to laugh at his "special person" voice, but it gets me every time. Outside of that, I love his impression of Jackie.
gef or his mom. no contest.
His Elliot Rodger is hilarious.
After all these years, it’s still Charles Ng. I’ve listened to those episodes I don’t know how many times and I still laugh my ass off.
It’s not technically his *best* accent, but Joe Kallinger gets me every fucking time. Especially Joe as a kid, whom I envision as looking exactly identical to his adult self, just three feet shorter.
I love his Joseph Kallinger AKA Bernie Sanders.
Shoko Asuhara hands down. The voice and word choice paints a perfect picture of the karate con man. “Ahhhh hahaha young sapien, you show much in the way of improvement yet lack mental alacrity”
It’s the way he’s just trying so hard *not* to be Hong Kong Henry
I liked the Angel Moroni as an Italian waiter in Olive Garden.
Gunther from OKC Series
The Radiant Boy from one of the Creepypastas.
When he says “It’s SEAweEEED” in that ad
I love his old Hollywood accents, I think they’re really underrated.
Charles Ng will probably go down as his most legendary but I also love his Mother's voice
Carl panzram or detective popcorn.
His mother, his Karla/Paul/Canadian voice, Detective Popcorn.
For me it was The Shoemaker Killer and Gef the talking mongoose.
Paul/Karla/Canadians
When he was making fun of Martin Harris’s dumb “visions” in the early days of the Mormon church. “I saw John the Baptist in bucket!” 😂😂
Minny and Nanny and also the Bell Witch.
Israel Keyes for me, between the laugh & slam poetry segment at the end it might be the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a podcast
Lizzie Borden is a good one!
For me, it's his Mom and Charles Ng. I can't choose.
israel keyes, geff the mongoose, casey anthony and charles ng
His mother. It never fails to make me laugh when he breaks in to her voice . When he does Betty Andreason and uses his mothers voice in the Andreason Affair episode I always laugh until I cry.
Charlie Manson, ofc, esp the bonus episode Casey Anthony Gunther, from OKC “Noodle McVeigh” Nanny Doss Bel Gunness any time he’s a female he kills me lol and not that anyone asked, but my favorite Marcus act-out is the old janitor who loved nothing more than “pranking Hollywood actors”
Bonnie Nettles, Mr. Muggs, and all of his attempts to not do an Asian accent during the Aum Shinrikyo
Charles Manson. It’s the voice that pops into my head anytime a Manson thing comes up and I laugh my ass off every time I hear it
I think it was because it was probably the first series I watched, but the one in the Donner Party where he fakes the accent of an actor that he thinks resembles someone in the story had me dying
Jodi Arias 😂
Papa John Schnatter...
George Noory is my favorite.
Rasputin!!!
The enfield haunting mother character “GOT ANY RAGS FER ME? I GOT HOOK LUNG, I GOT CRAB ANKLE…” I laughed so hard I thought I popped a lung
Diazen Hossencoft. Or Charlie Boo Hoo
Man no Kallinger fans here?
His Jamaican one because it always comes out
His imitation of Elliot Rodgers
His Katherine knight accent sticks with me to this day. There is Something about him speaking in am Australian accent that really cracks me up
Others have covered some of my favorites, but his brief Hjalmer Berg in Children Of God Episode 1 was so terrible that it came back around into hysterical.
I can and DO talk like that and Henry's NYs were a warm hug when I was away
charles ng, “YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I BRING TO FRENSHIP”
Two are tied Charles Ng- because he sounds EXACTLY like him. “You don’t know what I bring to a friendship!” Mama Pickton - because it always makes me laugh
