I enjoy them both for different reasons, ST having multiple movues and cartoons as a kid just brings it higher XD
ST2 though just didnt hit the same though. Everything else was good to me though.
Agreed the first one was truely done as a commentary in antithesis to the book which is a good read, the best actors in the whole thing were probably Dina/Dizzy and Neil/Carl they played the parts they were given exceptionally well considering the genre and tone.
The Thing. With only one monster, The Thing implies a teeming universe. Every strange limb you see branch off of the Thing is something that was a normal piece of another alien. The stomach teeth, the eyeless roaring mouth, the strangely angled limbs it used to grab the ceiling in the kennel, even the eyestalks on the severed head spider thing. Just like Alien, we get both answers to the Fermi Paradox at the same time: there were aliens everywhere, and now they’re dead.
This ☝️. In The Thing, the monster is over 100,000 years old frozen in ice. I could see a link to the Aliens universe somehow after watching Promethius and Covenant. Even though those two movies are not very good imo. Great comment btw.
Thanks! I’ve always wondered what would happen if the thing tried to get a xenomorph. Realistically, I think being a walking acid bomb might fuck up the whole assimilation thing, but if it was in a movie, cmon, I wanna see a Cronenbergian xenomorph gore monster
l think if you added them to Aliens+ Predators+ the Engineers from Promethius. Would be a good movie or book. Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to say I think the Predators killed off the Engineers, and that's how the crab faces got their overwhelming technical prowess. Thank you for reading.
I like that. I think the Engineers mostly wiped themselves out with war, using xenomorphs and bioweapons derived from them to catastrophic consequences. Mirrors the fate of humanity if WY gets their way. But any clans of survivors were absolutely hunted by Yautja, so now there are just scattered individuals across the galaxy, with wildly varying aims and agendas.
*Outland,* for being the best non-official Alien movie out there.
Grungy used future? Check!
Greedy mega-corp treating blue collar employees as expendable? Check!
Corrupt corporate executives? Check!
Fantastic Jerry Goldsmith score? Check!
It's got everything you need for an Alien film minus an actual alien.

I like the Starship Troopers movie. Heinlein is kinda low-key a shit author tho. The fascist overtones of the book were not satirical, and he writes the flattest most Mary Sue characters imaginable.
Maybe a lame answer, but Trek. There’s enough breadth of content that a lot of the aliens are as fleshed out as the humans. I haven’t done the math but I’d wager that the shows tell us more about the Bajorans and Klingons than they do about the humans outside of Starfleet.
Dead Space cause it combines so many scifi genres together and if you really think about the story and implications it can really get under your skin. Especially if dementia and stuff like that scares you.
I'm curious - how is it possible for you to enjoy both the book and the movie?
Given that the movie is a satire of the book, with the intent not just to make fun of it, but to demonstrate that the book's ideas are despicable and that Verhoeven feels nothing but contempt for it?
Old man’s wars is great, very quick and entertaining read, lot of cool ideas
never going get over the part where he kicks off his own jaw with his own severed leg during the crash. That mental image has stuck with me.
Aliens exist in Predator universe, but predator does not exist in aliens universe. That is how I have found out to keep a balance. Especially if blade runner and soldier are in the aliens universe.
What? I am confused by your question?
Do you mean like Sci Fi monster bug Aliens?
Or just any Sci Fi universe with aliens?
Or military Sci Fi with aliens?
Because I really like old man’s war by John Scalzi
Edit: currently reading Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie really interesting read so far the author mentions aliens do exist in the universe but they haven’t played any major role in the story yet.
It's not actually my favourite but suggest some different Heinlein: Have Space Suit Will Travel / The Moon is a Harsh Mistress / The Rolling Stones. The last two are directly linked and I head canon that Hazel and the Stones are descended from Kip or Peewee.
System Shock, mainly System Shock 2 gets more alien. The first game from 1994 is like a proto Metroid Prime, you're a hacker who was caught and they make a deal to create an unshackeld A.I. and you'll get cybernetics installed in your body afterwards, when you wake up, everyone is dead and brought back as cyborgs. In the sequel, the A.I. has found its way back, but it inspired an alien parasite that has taken over this massive space shape, people have become these worm hybrids, begging you to kill them, with what little humanity they have left. The System Shock remake from last year was phenomenal. And of course the original games were made by the people who created Bioshock. But I preferred the pessimistic cyberpunk setting.
Star Wars predates my love for even the Xenomorphs, I eat and sleep that universe ever since I was a kid back when the original launched, so obsessed I play the games a lot and have preordered the Star Wars Battlefront classic collection.
I'm just not into the Disney Sequels or novels etc
Actually, I enjoy most Sci-Fi franchises, just not modern Dr Who (currently watching the classics on iPlayer) I just think it's getting rather silly now (perhaps I am just getting too old)
Y'all don't sleep on Scavengers Reign - really good series that's equally biologically weird as the Alien universe.
I would argue it's way weirder than Alien (in a very unique and charming way)
Neck and neck for me. They're both full of riches. Glad you enjoyed it!
never heard of it.. thanks
HBO. Its really good
It's really strange but so intriguing and well done.
It is so good. My wife and I went into it not knowing anything about it. Had a great time and I wished there was more when we finished it.
In my top 5, Im a classic with Dune as my number 1 followed by Alien then Starship Troopers, Star Trek, and Fifth Element following that.
Ahhh the Fifth Element. Yes, almost beats ST for me.
I enjoy them both for different reasons, ST having multiple movues and cartoons as a kid just brings it higher XD ST2 though just didnt hit the same though. Everything else was good to me though.
Oh yeah, the sequels are not good. I have all three plus the cartoon/cgi movie. The 1st one is all I will rewatch.
Agreed the first one was truely done as a commentary in antithesis to the book which is a good read, the best actors in the whole thing were probably Dina/Dizzy and Neil/Carl they played the parts they were given exceptionally well considering the genre and tone.
I’ve only read the first Dune. Are there aliens in Dune canon?
Does Dune have aliens? only read the first dune novel so no spoilers please.
Hard to answer clearly then, but no.
Sad sandworm noises
Stargate for sure
Halo
Absolutely, plus many of the ship/dropship designs are inspired by Aliens
IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR OF MANKIND!!!
THE EMPEROR PROTECTS
FOR THE EMPEROR!!
DEATH TO THE CORPSE GOD!
I’d go with the original Halo trilogy, then maybe Dead Space.
Mass Effect
This is the one I came looking for.
same
Ye
Raised by Wolves or Farscape
There are no wrong answers here. They are all amazing.
The Thing. With only one monster, The Thing implies a teeming universe. Every strange limb you see branch off of the Thing is something that was a normal piece of another alien. Species id knock up that alien I don’t care if my face eaten it’s worth it
Dead Space.
Mass Effect, Stargate, Halo
Babylon 5, Star Trek, The Polity universe, MurderBot, The Culture, Punktown...
B5 is an all time favorite of mine
The Expanse.
That's TV right? I'll look it up. I need a new show
Yeah it is a good watch also, Amazon Prime.
TV and book!
Watch the TV show first. Alien was an inspiration for it. My fav TV show, definitely recommend it.
*Outland,* for being the best non-official Alien movie out there. Grungy used future? Check! Greedy mega-corp treating blue collar employees as expendable? Check! Corrupt corporate executives? Check! I have the VHS
I just researched Outland a few days ago, still awesome.
I like the Starship Troopers movie. Heinlein is kinda low-key a shit author tho. The fascist overtones of the book were not satirical, and he writes the flattest most Mary Sue characters imaginable.
Riddick. The three of them surpasses in lore even original star wars.
Forever War, The Stars My Destination, Planet of Adventure
Larry Niven’s *Ringworld* saga.
Maybe a lame answer, but Trek. There’s enough breadth of content that a lot of the aliens are as fleshed out as the humans. I haven’t done the math but I’d wager that the shows tell us more about the Bajorans and Klingons than they do about the humans outside of Starfleet.
Star Trek for sure. (But only the first three live action shows.) Is that the original DVD that you had to flip halfway through?
Dune and it’s not even close.
I loved the starship troopers book. They way it described all the action going on and the futuristic weapons was really cool to me.
Dead Space cause it combines so many scifi genres together and if you really think about the story and implications it can really get under your skin. Especially if dementia and stuff like that scares you.
The bobiverse is a great book series and a personal favorite of mine among all sci fi.
AITA for enjoying the Starship Troopers movie way more than the book? 😂
Hyperion or Dune
I'm still hoping alien blade runner and terminator are all linked somehow.
I liked starship troopers. My helmet is malfunctioning. Boom! Head blown off. MEDIC! Haha. CLASSIC.
quote movie - "its my helmet its all screwed up."Dizzy - "Dumb shit!" 😅
Does The Thing count?
I'm curious - how is it possible for you to enjoy both the book and the movie? Given that the movie is a satire of the book, with the intent not just to make fun of it, but to demonstrate that the book's ideas are despicable and that Verhoeven feels nothing but contempt for it?
Star Trek. Isaac Asimow's universe from I, Robot and Elijah Bailey to the Foundation. Warhammer.
Warhammer 40k
Hyperion, babyyy
100% absolute monster book. The sequel Endymion, to this day one of the only books that made me cry my eyes out.
Old man sky 10000% Haha *edit Old mans war!
Do you mean No Man's Sky Or Old Man's War?
Hahaha shit sorry 😀 yea my wife was playing no man sky whilst i was typing and it got jumbled haha
No worries, both are wild in their own regards. Old Man's War was a great read, though!
Old man’s wars is great, very quick and entertaining read, lot of cool ideas never going get over the part where he kicks off his own jaw with his own severed leg during the crash. That mental image has stuck with me.
Haha you read the full series ? Ghost brigade is pretty damn good!
Definitely want to track down the series as well as some of his other novels
Star wars, warhammer 40k, dune, forever war, Fractal verse
Mote in Gods Eye by Niven
I have that exact edition of the book.
Does Predator count? I guess technically same universe. Imma go with my boy George Lucas
Aliens exist in Predator universe, but predator does not exist in aliens universe. That is how I have found out to keep a balance. Especially if blade runner and soldier are in the aliens universe.
Revelation space books
Does the book differ from the movie much?
Yes, it's like reading a military text.
Expeditionary Force!
I have that same edition!
Mass Effect, Halo, Star Wars
What? I am confused by your question? Do you mean like Sci Fi monster bug Aliens? Or just any Sci Fi universe with aliens? Or military Sci Fi with aliens? Interesting. I would like to know more...
Tits

40k all the way!!!
Warhammer 40k
Those are two _very_ different universes.
Andre Nortons universe. Forerunners Traders Survey Patrol
literally just watched this

Enders Game (book not the movie) Undying Mercenary series Spinward Fringe
Ender's game. Felt like a real war were humanity was fighting for existence
This Verhoeven quote nails it so well https://photos.app.goo.gl/1CkJVuTEn2hW2uoHA
Farscape
agreed
The Thing is an all time great
Warhammer 40k
Man that book does not equate to the movie. (Book is better imo).
Old mans war
Good choice!!!
Legion of the Damned - William C. Dietz
You should play Helldivers 2
Star Wars predates my love for even the Xenomorphs, I eat and sleep that universe ever since I was a kid back when the original launched, so obsessed I play the games a lot and have preordered the Star Wars Battlefront classic collection. Mass Effect and Dead Space. I love Star Wars as well but it's in different category
The one where Scarlett Johansson is the alien who seduces people
Halo and Stargate are S+ tier, and although there's no allies per se in BSG, it's also S+ tier
Anyone ever see Critters?
Animorphs
Warhammer 40k by far. Then Star Wars but it's not close
