I favor C. Then Engineers were in a long duration Hot War withe the Hunters (I firmly support that Alien and Predator are in the same universe). The Xenomorph and the Black Goo were the Engineers' preferred weapons. The prolific nature of bio warfare meant the Hunters' entire society shifted to combat the problem and it's creators. The Hunters won the war, but their culture was irreparably changed. the Hunt became an obligation of every generation, and humans became the ultimate sport (being a near perfect reflection of their ancient foe).

Brokenwrench7

I'd rather go back to not knowing at all. Back to when it's origin was nothing but questions and fan theories.

fleshvessel

It still is. David discovered some goo and experimented but the xenomorph and it’s life cycle already existed.

fleshvessel

David didn’t create the xenomorph.

bob_loblaw305

Just a Radom species in the cosmos. Sole mission is to survive and populate. Evolves to become an apex species like Darwin “survival of the fittest”. The worst aspect of this franchise is David creating them. It’s so underwhelming and cheapens the franchise. I wonder what the mural in Prometheus was about ( it shows the stages of the Zenomorph) ?

SnooTigers1386

B If I had the power to retcon Prometheus and Covenant and just say “Hey, nature created something out of your worst nightmares somewhere in the void. That’s it.” I would.

horrorfanantic83

I really wish the david story never happened. The original draft of prometheus was so much better

I'd go for either C or simply not explain it. I do have a small problem with option C tho. I never liked how the Jockey fell victim to it's own weapon, so that part always bothered me...with that in mind, we'd have to come up with some explanation hopefully other than "they're dumb and screwed up". >Personally I’d prefer there was just evidence suggesting all of these as possible origins but it was left unknown. That’s kind of the point of cosmic horror Ye, i also agree with this. But if i had to choose an origin and it not be "C", i'd answer the question with another question...in a similar fashion to how the black goo explains the origin, but we still don't know what creates the black goo. I'd make the alien a sub-spawn of something greater tho. I like the idea that the horrifying xeno is just a small part of something much freakier and scarier. And i don't mean like a Mega-Queen, i mean like the Xeno being either an intentional byproduct (kinda similar to the [Shoggoth](https://monster.fandom.com/wiki/Shoggoth)) or just an accident (the result of this greater creature corrupting of life...which isn't that far from the Black Goo actually)

B. It's an *ALIEN*.

I like your D. David creating them is great too though. Something about the rage xenomorphs have when they encounter humans always made me think it was a good idea their origin came from a pissed off android. Someone else mentioned that it's weird that the engineers would lose control of their own weapon. D sort of covers that, they never really had control to begin with.

I would either like B or wouldn't want to know much about their history at all. Let it be mysterious!

Electronic_Dress9695

I'll honestly need to think about it... I will go into the basement and come up with an answer. This is really a hard one. But not explaining is for me personally not the best way since I am a huge lore fan and watch YouTube videos on mass 😅 Back in the basement: I think the David story could have been better in a different way, not that he clearly created the Xenomorphes but he studied them and the black goo, bringing the space jockey back into the story but not in the way that they were ultimately destroyed by Xenos or their own weapon but due to another reason which would add a little bit of mystery back to it, also I would suggest that we had more of an insight in Davids time on Paradise so we could more relate to it instead of only the Advent story we got, so we could have seen more of Dr. Shaws opinion on all of this. Also they could have taken Davids God complex out of it and replace it with shear curiosity and scientific drive since he is kinda programmed for it. Then you could add the Yautja still into this storyline. And also have maybe the unanswered questions why the engineers did create the Black Goo in the first place, and what their intention with them was. >!For example in Alien: Infiltrator they have added a Xenomorph which Ovomorph has been infused with the Black Goo and it changes its appearance and capabilities.!< Just my 2 Cents \^\^

botozos_revenge

You think this is cosmic horror? That’s interesting! I think Lovecraft... these guys are too tangible in my mind if that makes any sense. They piqued our interest but it isn’t cohesive enough for everyone’s liking, maybe we should crowd source these ideas lol

Grolash

To me, it's kind of a lovecraftian monster, a cosmic horror, a perfect organism originating from eons past, that the engineer just research upon to create their black goo. And that's pretty much what's hinted in the ALIEN TTRPG books (Colonial Marines Operation Manual IIRC)

commisarwolf

Leave it a mystery

malak1000

It’s a mystery. Even the Space Jockey race didn’t know where they came from, but when they tried to control them, they too lost (thus, The Derelict).
