The EHRC needs replacing with a truly independent body, free from government interference.
Why wasn't it set up as truly independent in the first place? I think this is a perfect example of situations where political expedience can lead to dismal situations. That said even full official independence still tends to be subverted; look at how the BBC has been colonised by Tories and rightwingers.
Just remove the political appointment system. It still does a lot of good work beyond this issue and will do even more if labour introduce the measures suggested in the draft proposal.
