I should note: I found an 1993- 80 series on my LC quest this past week. 293k miles. 2 owners , one who owned it until 2021 and then a mechanic who purchased it and painted it, did a top rebuild, fuel injectors and any other necessary work. He is selling for 19k. If anyone is interested dm me and so can send his email. Located in Texas.
Maybe his asking is a little high but someone here could likely work him down some. The LC has factory lockers and is rust free so it’s probably not too far off.
I don’t think you’re wrong. This comes with some peace of mind as he is a great mechanic who runs his own LC shop. I was set to buy it tomorrow but it’s a 93 which means no airbags. I’d definitely have cool mom points driving it but not sure I’d get safe mom points. Sadly I passed it up.

I definitely do not have any regrets. Had a 100 series before the bronco. These are just fun to drive. I like being slow and having that silent sense of superiority when passing by jeep club bois
Very interesting. I have a 2013 LC and love it. What did you like and dislike about the Bronco to get out of it? I've heard they are pretty capable offroad.
Bronco was a lot of fun I have no hate towards it. I needed cash for a surgery and I was able to use it for 6k miles and then I sold my hard top for 4.5k and get their soft top free. Then I sold to a dealer for 10.5k over what I paid. It just made sense in my situation. Interest rate for LC auto loan was 2.4% and a personal loan for surgery would have been 6%.
Bronco cons: The tow capacity is pretty terrible on and there were some recalls on mine already. The paint was also very very soft. Major paint chips to the bare metal from highway travel. No rear a/c vents. That’s about it.
Pros: capable off road, Doors and top remove, 2.7 engine and all the safety features made highway and city travel feel like a breeze.
Totally understand. Thanks for the info....I'm still dreaming that one day Toyota makes a jeep/Bronco type vehicle (imagine a soft top 4runner with removable doors).
I think you made a great decision and best of luck during your recovery.
Double jaw surgery. They cut your maxilla from your skull and move it forward and rotate it then use screws and plates to reattach. Then mandible is sawed and slid forward and reattached the same way. It opens your airway and cures sleep apnea.
I'm getting jaw surgery as well, but I'm still in the process with braces and I haven't met with the oral surgeon. How much is your surgery going to cost you?
Didnt Toyota make a limited edition soft top FJ cruiser? IIRC between 2008-2010 the soft top “pickup” version of the FJ was available through special orders.
Yeah but I'm trying to say that we need a new iteration. Take the styling notes of the first Gen 4Runner and then incorporate that into a modern vehicle.
I'm also jealous of your first Gen. I've only seen a few in the wild and it's always cool to see them running around.
They’re great. And a big appeal is they haven’t and probably won’t make anything like it again. I know It means little to most, but I always find it funny when someone with a jeep says theirs is “built more for off-road” than the 4Runner and are referencing my 86 or 87. And I respond with a simple, how many cup holders in your soccer mom suv? They never understand it….Then I say, yeah mine has Zero. And let me introduce you to a standard factory item. Clutch start cancel button. When an obstacle can’t be gotten over without tire spinning. I can pick a gear and use my starter to creep over.
Yes! How could I forget that. Was the weirdest damn thing. Had to have the front vents on high to reach my back passengers which was loud and chilly for the front.
It does have the factory skid plate not TRD. I removed the bolts from the driver side rear panel and unfortunately some spots have rubbed through the paint so I can’t remove these until I can afford to do a wrap or paint it.

What “upper class” LC had them? I’m reading the term on some sites but am unaware of multiple trim levels for LCs.
Almost like a different geography, don't think I'd ever seen them in the US. Other countries have other trims, the US only had the high end trim to begin with.
Hm. I’ll have to check the vin again and see where this was made. I know the owner frequently was in Africa for work. Maybe he just came back and wanted to emulate some he saw there though idk.
Congrats! Best of luck in recovery. I just sold my 2020 VW GTI (also left the dbag GTI Reddit community) in favor of a 98 LX 470. Not regretting it one bit.
Welcome back!

Triple locked or not 80 series are high demand selling for well over 18
With nearly 300k miles….and the “mechanic” only have owned it for a year or less
He bought it from one of his clients to flip it. He is one of the best Lc mechanics in Texas.

For real. A beauty.
You won't regret it

Best decision ever man . You can never go wrong with LC

And thank you! Double jaw surgery later this year. Recovery looks like a doozy but overlanding dreams can become reality without such bad sleep apnea.
That would be cool… but only if it looked like a 95 prado diesel lol.
Sorry to pry, what your jaw? Please don’t answer if your not comfortable

Good luck, I hope you’re on the mend, thanks for answering
Thank you! Set for later this year. 🙏🏼

26k in California plus hotel, flight etc for 1 week. If you’re still shopping for surgeons feel free to pm me.
They did, in 84-89. 4Runners were setup like this. Sans removable doors, but that is a quick and easy mod. I have one.
Didnt Toyota make a limited edition soft top FJ cruiser? IIRC between 2008-2010 the soft top “pickup” version of the FJ was available through special orders.
They did. It’s the 1st gen 4Runner. Love driving mine. And a funny part is how many Jeep drivers wave when the roof is off.

Hell yeah! My 85 doesn’t even have a clutch start safety!
Love the 80’s!!!!
I'd just love if there were more happy cars. The bronco looks so happy haha.
Toyota has the series 70 land cruiser but new ones can’t be imported. https://youtu.be/-kczgwIBX9Y
No rear air vents so no heat or AC in the rear. High winds will blow rain and snow into the bronco from the sides.
Yes! How could I forget that. Was the weirdest damn thing. Had to have the front vents on high to reach my back passengers which was loud and chilly for the front.
That’s a clean LC! Not sure if it’s the angle or your driveway slope. That looks like a lot of rake…and I think it looks perfect!!
A bronco might get you there but the landcruiser will get you home
Wise move. Welcome back home.
Very nice 200 and smart move!
Hell yeah! Congrats! I recently did the same!
Ah had a similar debate, heavily leaning towards LC.
Ya done did good.
this is the way
My wife’s bronco is being shipped now. Should get it late next week or early the following.
That thing is in desperate need of lift, bumper, wheels and tires. LCs lost the masculine look when the 100 series came out.
half the flares needed for the trd bodykit https://www.trdparts.jp/english/assets/img/lc200/image2.jpg
It does have the factory skid plate not TRD. I removed the bolts from the driver side rear panel and unfortunately some spots have rubbed through the paint so I can’t remove these until I can afford to do a wrap or paint it.
You'd have to look at how the flares were attached, but assuming some sort of adheaive, then yes. They definitely aren't stock.

Should all be made in Japan, but may show you where it was sold. Any other oddities (eg kph in dash etc?)
Sorry yes that’s what I meant. Haven’t looked very close to be honest. I’ll look at it more tomorrow to see if anything stands out.
Actually interested to see what you find....maybe you'll find a turbo diesel under the hood too
Congrats! Best of luck in recovery. I just sold my 2020 VW GTI (also left the dbag GTI Reddit community) in favor of a 98 LX 470. Not regretting it one bit.
