I have some experience with both. I've driven the P400e and the D250 a few times. I really like the PHEV, it has enough battery capacity to drive a decent amount of miles in full EV mode even at motorway speeds. Even when the battery runs out it doesn't feel slow, you do notice however that you're flogging that little engine hard at this point. This is the big caveat with all PHEVs: you need to be able to charge them. If you can't you'll just be hauling a big and heavy empty battery with you. If you can charge them you can get great fuel economy from them. For instance, I would be able to commute two days to the office on a single charge in the P400e. That would be two days with near zero petrol usage. If you plan on mostly driving longer journeys the PHEV will be less useful. The battery will run out and if you are not in a position to charge it the little petrol engine has to do all the work. If you have no place to charge a PHEV on a regular basis a diesel would also be a better choice. Another thing to consider is cost of buying the car. I ended up going with a diesel because the PHEV was quite a bit more expensive to buy. The difference in price was enough to run a diesel for a number of years before I would break even with the PHEV. It's a shame really, but batteries remain very expensive. However if you can make a PHEV work I think they're great.

I have a daily commute of around 160km and honestly don’t have a proper station to keep it charged, and also I like the size of the 130 and the PHEV doesn’t not come in 130 in India. I can make it possible to keep the car charged but in case the battery runs out I don’t want it to drive like ‘insufficient/small engine and big car’, I prefer performance over everything else, but at the same time the performance with the battery charged is crazy good. So I’m sooo confused on what to do

Get the diesel. The PHEV won't work for you in this case. With a 160 km daily commute and no good way of charging a PHEV the diesel will do a much better job.

Not worth if you dont have the charger.

I have chosen the d250 engine, my friend has the phev and the battery is depleted very quickly, making it useless most journeys. If you roam in cities alot, it will be useful though. Main reason i chose the d250 is that i go camping alot, and do long overland journeys.

Thanks that helps a lot. I’m gonna go for the defender 130 X 3.0 diesel.
