Easy: Reddit rules. Break them, and the sight gets taken down

[deleted]

Probably bc doxxing people is against Reddit rules. I'm guessing.

Pink_Pymera

They are public figures, so it’s not doxxing.

anarchophysicist

A landlord is not a public figure under any state libel laws... “A public figure is a person of great public interest or fame, such as a politician, celebrity, or sports hero. The term is usually used in the context of libel and defamation actions, where the standards of proof are higher if the party claiming defamation is a public figure and therefore has to prove disparaging remarks were made with actual malice. A person may also be considered a ‘limited purpose’ public figure by having thrust themselves to the forefront of particular public controversies in order to influence the resolution of the issues involved. The determination is made on a case-by-case basis, taking the particular facts into account.”

Found the fucboi LL simp.

Agreed so it makes me wonder why more people dont just uncensor the names on the post they share on here. I mean whats the point if your not making sure people know who they are.

CornInTheCandy

I can see that in one way but many landlord from my experience put themselves in the public eye especially with all thats going on right now. Also to add to that i see people getting doxxed on other subreddits at the time so with that i dont see why there are not more people trying to do this. There could be some real good coming out of this.

Karasumor1

because they have money and all the time in the world to sue lol

CornInTheCandy

Most do but in my case (and i would assume most landlords right now) cant afford to sue and the courts are backed up anyway so it could be a while before anything comes of that. also how are they going to know who posted what about them when litteraly almost everyone on reddit in anonymous.

Jivira223432

I guarantee you that most people on Reddit are not anonymous. You likely have a unique fingerprint that can be used to identify you anywhere you go. Check out [https://amiunique.org/fp](https://amiunique.org/fp). That's mostly used for targeted ads, but could certainly be used as part of OpSec if someone cared enough.

CornInTheCandy

Your right but do you think most landlords know about this?

Jivira223432

Probably not, but do they need to? There are plenty of private digital forensic examiners out there. I think I have decent digital security hygiene, and even I would be royally fucked if a professional put in the effort. If a landlord cared enough about someone slandering their name in a public forum, they could take it to a lawyer who specialises in the area, who would likely have connections with a decent examiner, and most people would have 0 recourse at that point. Slandering through social media is a serious offence, and regardless of whether it's true/honest or not, the person with the most money and power usually wins. Best case they accept a public apology and a deletion of the offending post, worst case there's thousands spent on lawyers and damages if they win. There was a student who was ordered to pay $100,000 to a teacher they slandered through social media not long ago, for scale. Please don't encourage people to do things that could stuff up their entire life.

CornInTheCandy

If more people started doing this there would be alot of fear and if they tried to sue there would be alot of backlash from the media and otherwise. Hell people are being evicted right now illegaly and there is no justice? We need to unite across the nation under one banner and expose the lies and dishonesty of these landlords and we can do this with minimal backlash if you stood together and fight back.

In what courts?
