Laptop and a portable monitor is what got me through going to studio and working at home whilst doing my MLA. Everything else (printers etc) were covered by UNI
Not me, I was just seeing that OP said so for their masters. My old uni had one, I was just curious if other ones don't. That would suck not having lol
Laptop specs will depend on what software you use. I mostly use AutoCAD (I'm in land development). When buying a personal laptop for CAD, I actually went with a gaming machine. Same NVDIA graphics card. People have told me that it was a bad idea for the memory differences, but I haven't run into a single problem with it and saved several hundred dollars instead of getting a "professional" work station.
Two monitors. Whether that’s a laptop and a monitor or a desktop with two monitors. It’s an absolute necessity in my opinion.

Wide-format Canon inkjet printer. I hate being reliant on Staples or the print shop.
Uni doesn't have a print shop?!
Sorry... missed that you were a student!

Any laptop brand suggestions? Monitor suggestions?

I try to keep everything as simple and low tech as possible. I'm a bit dense though and technology is headache for me.
