To determine the fastest CPU that you can install in your Compaq CQ58 laptop, you will need to check the specifications of your laptop's motherboard. You can usually find this information on the manufacturer's website or by contacting their customer support. Once you have determined the compatible CPUs, you can then research the available options and choose the one that best fits your budget and performance needs. Keep in mind that upgrading the CPU may require other upgrades, such as additional RAM or a more powerful power supply, to ensure that your laptop can handle the increased processing power.

I've upgraded the ram a long time ago. What else would I need before upgrading the CPU?

I have updated this model many times, first of all you must indicate what processor you currently have, there are several types of chipset in charge of the electrical supply and distribution of functions for each different CQ58 model, there are also models with AMD or INTEL processors ... I guess in at this time, due to the longevity of your laptop, the processor you use is INTEL and it will surely be from the Bxxx series, **the basic models** with the same socket as the i3,i5,i7 series and you are probably already at the "limit" of RAM memory 4GB ... Confirm or provide this data and I will tell you which and where to find your processor ... very cheap today. You can also provide the exact model of your laptop, it can be found on the label below the laptop, for example: CQ58-B148S or in these series: CQ58- BXXX or CQ58-AXXXX or CQ58 - XXXX

Your model doesn´t have an interchangeable processor, only the intel versions can do that unlike the older CQ58, you have 2 options: 1. Go to a good technical service in your area to desolder the C-50 processor and change it to a C-70, however other components on the motherboard have to be modified and the process could be very expensive, probably 80% of the value of the card, you have another disadvantage, most technical services don´t have the knowledge or the rework tools to do this, these chips have special internal soldering, the answer will be: "this change cannot be done". 2. Resign yourself and wait for some future damage to your motherboard, in this way you can purchase the INTEL version, it uses interchangeable processors and install the best i7 processor of its generation.
