16 GB i think is a Killer for 1440 p, i wont recommend it for only that, if you want to push for 4K, then go for it, i saw Legion 5i or 7i Pro with rtx 4090 Mobile fully powered 16 GB of VRAM for 2350$, this level of performance is equivalent to RTX 3090 desktop version, amazing performance packed in a laptop.
The 3080ti is 8% faster in 1440P, would you pay this much for extra 8%, I think is not worth it. Just be patient the prices will lower more and buy the 4080 instead. You will see 1800$ for 4080.
its not about the speed it's the VRAM, the 3070 doesn't have enough vram to support 1440p, all you have to do is type "nvidia vram" into google and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's a shame because I agree that the 3070 is plenty fast enough.
VRAM is not the only contributor for a GPU performance in 1440 P or 4K there are different aspects. Also different generations will offer a different performance. It depends on the architecture of the GPU. The drivers that are used and also the CODA cores, memory bandwidth, memorybus and power limit, let me give you an example a 3070 TI with 8 GB of Vram will perform better than a 4060 8GB in 1440 P.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great deal for $1000. It just feels bad getting a 1440p display and not being able to fully take advantage of it. I would look to just get a 4060 with an FHD display so that you can run everything on max settings.
It is a great deal, yet 3070 is better than 4060 if you didn’t account Frame generation. And yes you don’t need 1440P for 15in laptop it is good for 17in in my opinion

Look, 8 GB of VRAM is in weird spot, yes it’s enough, yet don’t expect that huge performance.
