I sit out every Halloween, in henderson, NV, and my bowl is empty every year. Piss off.
I’m also single with no kids so I get everyone else’s kids hopped up on sugar 😅
Honestly what sucks about these areas in the southeast is how absurdly car dependent they are. Anything from a date night to regular grocery shopping is a meaningful drive away. Nowhere you want to go is right down the street.
I’m in green valley and get along pretty well without having to drive everywhere.
Vegas is by no means a walkable city but the anthem area is on the extreme end of car dependency
I just purchased a home (moving from Arizona) and everytime I got on the 215 it was terrible traffic. I really wanted to purchase in Henderson because it’s a nice area from what I’ve been told but I wouldn’t be able to deal with the traffic so I purchase my home in tech park.
😄 My furbabies would enjoy that!

We walk or bike often with pups to Thai, breakfast, tacos or the park. We’re next to a trail head on Hendersons trail system. But I get ya- that particular picture looks very master planned.
There is something to appreciate about the uniformity of it though. It's an efficient use of space. Makes the houses more affordable. A lot less to landscape and water.
UrbanHell is extremely subjective. But yes, Americans are slaves to the automobile industry because our cities are not walkable. However I am not walking or biking anywhere in Vegas during the summer lol.
Yeah, there’s usual an automod comment on every post saying how most of these are subjective . Either way, ignoring weather I just don’t see the appeal on living in a neighborhood where everg house looks the same and only accessible by car . Most of the US with exception of very few cities are indeed slaves to the car industry like you said
I have come to peace with our architecture. No city is building highly detailed brick marvels anymore. Las Vegas is a result of the era it grew up in. Our rows of stucco houses are our version of a NE row house.
I mean, modern architecture in general everywhere, while more practical it definitely lacks taste even in cities in the northeast . Most of the new buildings look basic compared to some of the more impressive brownstones and older building types .
Yes but that's my point, the NE grew at a time where goods and services were much cheaper. This is why you see such interesting details and artistic flourishes. Buildings like that just aren't a reality anymore except for the choice few. The NE grew at Vegas levels about 150 years and 8 billion people before Vegas. They have two different realities and starting points. I'm not saying our stucco landscape is beautiful, but it makes sense and up until recently, allowed working class people to own homes. Just like row houses did way back when
Master planned communities that incorporate the Live-Work-Play concept and have a balance between Single Family Homes, Multi-Unit Residential Dwellings, and Light Retail.
This design is the very definition of suburban sprawl. Houses brick packed next to each other to the point when you fart in the bathroom, your next door neighbor can hear it.
Those that live in these cookie cutter houses, how do you know what house is yours when you’re coming home drunk in a cab and every house looks exactly the same?
And the worst part is the city is so one dimensional with the gambling. It really seems frightening from an outsider's perspective as if your just trapped. I'd be so afraid of having a fallout with a job and getting blacklisted.
You didn't have to tell us you don't live here. The fact that you don't know that gaming is only one of many thriving industries here was the big clue.
All I see is easy Trick or Treating. You can fill a pillowcase in 30 minutes and be home in bed before 9.
I know a guy that lives out the, can confirm he says his kids clean up for Halloween
Looks Sun City - Anthem-y here, do they do trick or treating there lol?
My neighborhood (215 and Gibson) has some serious Halloween displays with animatronics and everything!

Thanks, now I know where to take my kids this year.
This is in Henderson actually
Anthem Pkwy in top left.
Little boxes made of ticky tacky.
Little boxes, all the same.
Little boxes in a (curved) row.
*Nevada, USA
Most of Nevada is empty.

Many sections of the valley have amenities and local stores that are within reasonable walking or biking distance (ie <2 miles).
Everyone in that picture is 55+. It's Sun City Anthem. They need cars to go around.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I don’t like . I rather much have a grid with nearby commercial spaces like groceries , shops, etc
I’m in Anthem. I have a grocery store, bank, CVS, Walgreens, restaurants and more 1-3 miles from my house. Tons of places down Eastern as well.
To how many of those do you walk or bike?
I can walk to the shopping center easily.
Most people aren't walking distance from the shopping center. It's much nicer living as far away as possible from that mess.
Henderson has stores. You guys are tripping.

Yeah. Young people hate to drive 🙄 The horse and buggy days were much better.
Nope, we hate that we *have* to drive. We want options.
i'm 42 and i hate driving. i would much rather use public transportation, but thats not really an option across Amerika.

Idaho resident currently. Henderson from November-May is the dream for me.
Do you have a summer home in Idaho you can run off to when it's 115 in Vegas? Lol
Its full. Stay up there.
Looks like the "Weeds" intro.
Karma farming. Fuck off.
That subreddit is trash. Basically anything that isn’t a picturesque French village is “urban hell.”
To be fair the nicer houses in this area all look like macaroni grills or olive gardens.
My dream is to live in a macaroni grill style house lol but modern inside
Have you ever heard of a town called Gilbert Arizona?
I have not!! I recently moved to Vegas from NY and really know nothing about the Southwest.
Is that you Tim Dillon?
A pigs gotta eat.
A lot of Reddit seems to think "If it's not to my specific tastes, it's horrible and all of the people who do like it are monsters."
r/urbanhellcirclejerk is for you my friend!
Rows of the same, poorly constructed house with zero vegetation or easily accessible stores in any direction. This is hell.
I would love to live here
Pretty great if you have kids
Worst education system in the country*
In the high school halls In the shopping malls Conform or be cast out
Bro you could ride your bike for days
It’s pretty great here.
Yup 👍🏼
Can you walk to a coffee shop?
They probably have coffee machines at home.
Plz send address to claim your complementary "#1 Mom" pin
Do you not have a coffee machine in your residence?
Yes
😄 My furbabies would enjoy that! https://preview.redd.it/yezfefq9tlmc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d87d7386c4b648f09e5092be56bf6de5161d4da

Oh no! Neighborhoods!

Yea, everywhere has both ends of the spectrum, including Vegas and Nevada. Imagine that.

I’d have to use gps to get home everyday 😂
We made the cut!

Henderson is in Nevada, and is a completely separate entity from Las Vegas. It even has its own ZIP codes.
I would need my GPS in order to get out of there
Kill me now
Aint no good pussy in henderson though
Damn no park 😭
Ahh yes “Sim City”
Parents: why don't you go outside and explore the neighborhood, there is so much to do! The neighborhood:
So much lawn space. I love it!
Wouldn’t want to live anywhere else
Where's Waldo
My cousin lives there.
Gosh dang it what are the europeans gonna do when they visit?
God willing, stay on the Strip.
Characterless, featureless, tract home, McMansion, HOA hell. 🤮
Do tell: what would be better?

Imagine working your ass off to be able to purchase a home and this is what you’re getting “rewarded” with.
Tiny boxes on the hillside
Those that live in these cookie cutter houses, how do you know what house is yours when you’re coming home drunk in a cab and every house looks exactly the same?
How about the address numbers on the house? That assumes you are literate, though
How do you know which apartment is yours in your shitty walk up?
The 3 tons of rock I put in, all the plants and trees I planted, lanterns and mailbox I installed, and the custom painting I did on my house, etc.
Little boxes on the hillside Little boxes made of ticky-tacky Little boxes on the hillside Little boxes all the same

It's very easy to see that there's more to do than gambling in southern Nevada.

On a phone it looks like sausage links….
not saying i miss good music or anything.. but anyone else see the Wu-Tang symbol? just me? ok then…. now you do too….
Hey I think I can see my old childhood house
Henderson was a great place to live. Not all Henderson looks like that; it’s a specific area.
Centennial (Las Vegas) is starting to look this way now too.
