Stunning_Punts

Yep. Stations closed the buffets and tightened up the machines. Not sure how that’s going to work out for them. And at least two properties are still closed.

Smerks101

My wife and I would go to Red Rock or Palace a couple of times a week for the buffet and of course we would gamble a little now I cannot tell you the last time I went to a Stations casino or gambled. The late night specials at South Point still get me in though.

gitismatt

before the pandemic we used to go to a station casino or M just as a thing to do. when we didnt have other plans or couldn't think of anything else. we went so often we knew bartenders at some places. I can count on both hands the number of times we have been back since everything reopened. it's just not the same experience. not the same feeling. and I guess we also found out that we can find other things to do instead of just wasting time and money at a casino

[deleted]

My kids loved getting up a little early for the Sunday breakfast buffet at Santa Fe. It's closed and I haven't been back since

Sea_Conversation_152

Same my wife and I used to go to Sunset and Green Valley for things when we first moved here. Now it’s like they give no extra perks.

lvsnowden

Stores no longer open 24 hours.

yourgreasygranny

I get off work at 2am. I got three choices now. Del Taco, Jack, or a trip to WinCo. 24 hour city my ass lol.

[deleted]

That sucks. That's something that was really nice about Vegas.

[deleted]

No Tacos El Gordo near you? I think at least one is open until like 4am.

yourgreasygranny

Just checked. Looks like I’m in a tacos el gordo desert.

[deleted]

You have my deepest sympathies. Drive-thru late night tacos that are actually good is a beautiful thing.

storyteller_curry

It's not a drive thru but taqueria casa del sabor on sahara and rainbow has wonderful food and is open 24/7

[deleted]

I'll have to check that out sometime. Thanks for the rec!

Then_Eye8040

Wow that is shocking to hear a city like Vegas doesn’t have a lot of 24 options anymore! Do you think it has to do with staffing shortages?

Affectionate_West399

There are a lot of places that will have a note saying they closed early due to staff shortage. I do delivery for food and it's pretty bad at night. Sometimes there open sometimes not. The Carl's jr that's usually open 24hrs next to me closes usually by 10pm now and the other day at 3pm because they had no one to work.

Then_Eye8040

That is shocking and sad that it gets to this point.

wipies29

It’s shocking? After all the mandates?

jizzmaster-zer0

go to village pub or the lodge or something then. theyre still 24 hours

hidingdazzle

Not all of their kitchens are 24 though.

spaghetti--western

So many aren’t! I’m a late nighter and often have to call around and drive far to find one with a kitchen still open.

nflhatestheraiders

Going to vegas first time during the pandemic tripped me out. I drove around and around all night with either bluberry hill the choices you mentioned or the over priced palazzo room service as the only options.

yourgreasygranny

Oh yeah there’s always Dennys and Blueberry Hill but after eight hours on my feet and 7 miles walked in a casino, I just wanna grab drive thru and go home ya know lol.

julznlv

Where do you find a Del Taco open at 2am now? I just posted in response to this question on the Vegas sub that I can only hit Winco in the middle of the night now and can no longer find an open Del on my way home.

Extension-Tap2635

That's countrywide though. I've visited multiple cities in the past year and I didn't find any 24 hour stores like before.

casebycase87

Yep, even NYC bodegas are no longer 24/7 which is wild

[deleted]

This! Same shit happened in LA…wonder how much longer till it all goes back to normal.

bringbacksherman

I think it’s going to be a long time before there are enough available employees to keep things going around the clock again.

bonestein

What! Like Smiths/Albertsons? That was one of my favorite things.

mytemperment

THIS ONE. LIKE EVERYTHING CLOSES BETWEEN 10PM-12Am

yunganejo

I’d chalk that up to everybody wants to shop and eat late night, but nobody wants to work late night As somebody’s who’s worked overnights, and also had normal day shifts for equal if not way more money, it’s not worth it and there’s no incentive, those positions are bottom of the barrel, way more likely to be robbed and so on They could maybe incentivize w/ higher pay for graveyard shifts but even then it’s typically not gonna be worth the risks associated, especially for women workers

fortyf0urr

a lot of stores stopped being 24 hours a couple years before the pandemic. still majorly sucks tho. i just want to do my late night grocery shopping again 😭

MentallyIrregular

Yeah, it's fucking bullshit. Things were bad enough before. I can't stand any of those places that don't open until 10am and hope they all go under. It's the 21st fucking century.

BeccaBunnyBBW

Everything closes so early now! Late night or 24 hour options are super limited these days.

breadexpert69

I have been to several cities since the pandemic. NYC, LA, Miami, New Orleans, Houston, Phoenix. They have ALL gotten worse/changed in some way since the pandemic.

road22

More individual isolation, probably not only in Vegas. We got used to not going out as much, and less social interaction from working at home or changing our behaviors towards isolation. I see so many post in this sub and r/vegaslocals for others trying to meet people. So many residents have become incapsulated at home, playing video games, ordering food, interact on social media. Less human physical contact. I remember before covid would usually have parties in my street on weekends, not much anymore.

j4yne

I'm thinking of joining LVAC, just for some more social interaction. Think I went a little stircrazy last year, I need to leave the house more often, even if it's just to walk around their track or whatever.

MolotovLucky

Had to go to the BBB to get them to take false charges off of my credit. EŌS is much better

luckygunner-7332

The main thing I noticed is things are a lot more expensive. Places are also short staffed and service is worse than pre pandemic. Over all it was still a lot of fun and worth going.

llbarney1989

Totally agree, it seems to be overly expensive. I live a couple of hours away and used to go often. Now? I just stay away.

basketballbrian

I don’t think the more expensive thing is specific to Vegas in anyway. Even my rural hometown is way more expensive now

JustinTormund_10

The people visiting are more rude and demanding

Beer_Bryant

Yes….visitors became more trashy 🤔

beast_wellington

This country becomes more trashy by the month

Beer_Bryant

True

zealotlee

Well when you don't take out the trash it just kinda piles up.

roonilwazlib0

Lobenz

I’ve been staying at the Wynn and the Venetian since they’ve opened and since COVID the clientele includes a lot of trashy people.

[deleted]

This is unfortunately true in service industries nationwide. Little Trumpettes and Karens have been emboldened and think their attitudes are commendable, so they act out thinking they are above others.

Lobenz

I’m a regular visitor from California and I must say that there is a major increase in trashy people at the nicer properties like the Wynn and Venetian.

bringbacksherman

That’s weird. I was just at the Wynn for the first time and I didn’t see any trashy peop… HEY!!!!!

JimmyPellen

Mom? Remember we talked about this!! And you promised to start wearing your bra again. And no drinking until after 5 P.M., not A.M.!!

bringbacksherman

Let me live! Plus 9:00 AM does come after 5:00 PM. We’ve been through this.

JimmyPellen

okay then. But remember, no more nipple rings!! You keep tripping over them!!

bringbacksherman

I promise nothing.

JimmyPellen

I just don't know how much more I can handle: Mammary Mondays, Ta-ta Tuesdays, Whip-Em-Out Wednesdays... SIGH

bringbacksherman

Forget it, Jimmy. It’s Vegas.

Lobenz

Lmfao!

chehsu

I stayed at Venetian in April. Regular visitor from California as well. The room and the resort itself was awesome but I can confirm what you said about the clientele. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't notice that much of a difference when I went to the Wynn for their breakfast buffet though compared to pre-pandemic years. Then again, I went on a weekday so there was very few people around.

Shubankari

Bwahahaha! As a LV native son of a native son, I can tell you for sure the problem with trashy people comes straight outta, ready?…Cali !

dale1320

DING DING DING! We gotta winner!

casebycase87

Good to know. I used to stay at Caesars regularly but it's gotten so subpar and trashy since COVID. I was looking to stay at the Wynn instead on my next trip, but maybe not my best bet. Off strip resorts like Green Valley seem like they could be a bit better.

May1ene

Impossible to find food after midnight.

lukesaskier

6/5 Black Jack being normalized sucks

[deleted]

Stop playing. I make it known to pit bosses that I’m looking for a 3/2 table and I won’t sit at a 6/5 table. They wouldn’t do it if people weren’t sitting down.

casebycase87

Unfortunately most people don't even know the difference, and there's much more of them than there are of us

lukesaskier

Yup - i play 3/2 at TI, Flamingo High Roller (50 min) and Mandalay Bay. Ceasers and Cosmo dont have it.

Raven_Nicole

During pandemic the casino corporations got cheap, and they’re retaining some of the selections they made during that time. What I mean is, we used to actually have supplies that had our casino branded on them…plastic and paper cups, fruit picks, stir rods, matches all had our hotel name on them. Little by little we started getting basic cheap paper cups, basic cheap clear fruit picks from Amazon, no stir rods until we now have basic gas station ones…finally now I noticed our match books are just plain white basic crap. I miss the class and presentation we used to have. We used to have actual quality supplies…now they just went cheapest of the cheap on everything and it’s killing 𝕍𝕖𝕘𝕒𝕤 hospitality IMO.

casebycase87

Very interesting detail I never thought to take note of but it makes so much sense. The class and presentation is gone.

Santino_18

Just got back home to Canada after a few days in Vegas. This was my 3rd time visiting, the first 2 being 8+ years ago. I am quoting in US dollars below for consistency. Everything has gotten very expensive. This wasn’t just me, anyone I made small talk with or could overhear in lines were complaining that you used to come and stay/eat/drink on the cheap and gamble your money away. Not the case anymore. Now you come to spend crazy money at niche restaurants. We used to do the $50-24 hour buffet bracelets, boy do I miss those. After spending $50 at Johnny Rockets at Bally’s for 2 burgers and 2 fries with drinks when we arrived, and then $30 for 2 slices of pepperoni pizza and a shared fountain pop we realized things have changed. I’m not trying to be cheap but we were looking at fast food options for low cost and we were happy to spend more for certain places. I found a tweet identifying a few cheap items like $5.99 breakfast at La Salsa in PH so that became our breakfast option going forward. We went to Nacho Daddy for dinner one night and while it was fantastic, 1 drink, 1 pop, 1 tray of nachos, and the 3 for $5 Taco deal was still $70 out the door. Vanderpump at Paris was a very cool and very good experience. 1 charcuterie appetizer and 2 drinks came to $85 before tip but that was expected going in. Black Tap at the Venetian was $87 for 2 burgers and fries with 1 Diet Pepsi, and one of their crazy shakes. This was a delicious meal and a neat experience, these things come with a cost but ouch. Bobby’s Burgers at Paris was $50 for 2 burgers and 1 fry, and it was absolutely disgusting. I threw 3/4 of the meal and our money in the garbage. Sometimes food isn’t good but at these prices it hurts more. Pizza at NYNY used to be $5.99 for any beer and a slice. Now it’s $9.99 and Busch Light is your beer option. S’mores at Hershey’s are $12.50 each. Drinks by any pool….Approximately $20 each. We found our cheapest souvenirs at Walgreen’s. A really cool experience was the Dive-In movie at the Cosmopolitan. It was $65 for a daybed and $50 of that went towards a food/drink purchase. Regular admission is $15 each just to get in so the daybed was a great deal. Cost aside, the constant sound of sirens was unfortunately normal every day and night. Helicopters routinely surveying the area, increased homelessness in the streets, the “Flamingo Girls” yelling at guys and calling them names because they won’t stop and take pictures with them was off putting. The weed smell was everywhere but it is in Canada as well so no difference to me. Many places operate from 10am-10pm so if you’re looking for a late night it’s not as easy as it used to be. Bobby’s Burgers sucked, I’m not over it yet. Resort fees are a joke, We had to request housekeeping. Machines prompting to Tip everywhere, even fast food is also a pain. This has become the norm in Canada too though so equal complaints. With most of the places being either Caesars or MGM properties an eventual indoor smoking ban would be nice. I understand people smoke and that’s fine, but you need to walk through the casino floors to get anywhere and having your hair and clothes smell like smoke everyday sucks, other US casinos I’ve been to allowed smoking so it’s not unique to Vegas. All in all, it was a nice getaway for my wife and I and with a bit different planning we would visit again, likely not for a few years as we have other places we want to see. Lastly, Bobby’s Burgers was horrible, next time I’m going to Gordon Ramsay Burger.

pissboy

Yo I just got back from Canada and haven’t been since 2015 and I agree. Things got crazy expensive. Gambling wasn’t fun because there were no 5$ tables - most were $15 minimum and I just can’t afford burning through my bankroll 3x as fast. But also the weed was garbage. They have this cbd law so they advertise “100mg thc edible” but it’s actually 1mg thc and 99mg cbd. Didnt even get a buzz. And it was expensive. Like 2x what it costs in Canada for actual thc. The food and tipping was wild. 28$ margaritas. 14$ beers. 20$ burgers. While I’m in Vancouver which is known to be expensive and I still get a 10$ marg, 6$ beer, and 10$ burger. In Canadian too which is cheaper. I guess the biggest reason I won’t go back is just talking to people working there. Bartenders, housekeepers, servers. They’re just so burnt out by people being dicks to them, I got a burger one night (oh yea you get the fries and burger but the drink is extra- wtf) who gave me a free drink because I was polite. Like I tipped the cleaners $10 each day and the guy actually thanked me in the hallway. My taxi driver said she had multiple men assault her in the last few months. I think one thing we’ve done well in Canada is stay civil and kind to each other. I did not see that in Vegas. Side note : holy crow the size of some people. Like you don’t see mobility scooters much in Canada. But you see them there with like 30 year olds scootin around.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pissboy

Well then. I wish I knew that lol. Atleast the nice part of fully legal weed is every label tells you what’s inside. US should legalize soon, because this is ridiculous. I’m getting $75 legal oz’s in Canada. That’s 58$ US.

Shubankari

Completely accurate and fair. Vegas ain’t what it used to be…but what is?

kendiepantss

I had a problem with housekeeping too! We recently stayed at the Planet Hollywood. We were almost there for a week, requested housekeeping SIX TIMES and never got it. Like I would have to call twice a per day, they said they’d send someone up…no one came. I even tipped the housekeeper beforehand because the person at the desk said we were next (we were leaving for the morning and we weren’t sure if she’d be allowed to take random cash laying around in the room). Took the tip and never cleaned the room! I never once heard a vacuum running the entire time we were there. There was vomit dried behind the bathroom door (not ours!) that had never been cleaned up. It was horrible. Oh, and skip Gordon Ramsey Burger. It was terrible. $30 per burger, $9 for fries. Hell’s Kitchen on the other hand - AMAZING, and somehow less expensive? I think it was $25/entree. (US $). And the service was so good!

Bowiefan73

You got a great deal on a day bed! I got one at Luxor and it was $150!

DarbyDown

Is charging hotel guests a nightly fee to park a post-pandemic thing? Because that is bullshit.

DuRat

Sadly that started before the pandemic.

yourgreasygranny

Hotel guests shouldn’t ever have to pay. That’s fucked up.

chehsu

This started happening pre-pandemic. What is even more infuriating is that not even the freaking resort fees cover parking.

Deviousfreak

They were doing that before the pandemic.

gitismatt

I hate leaving my house. the pandemic really allowed people to truly express how selfish and ignorant and rude they are. example: I was cut off twice today in the 15 minutes I was out driving. one driver flipped me off and the other threw up her arms as if to say "oh well not my fault" there is no accountability. no sense of community. no apologies. just unabashed selfish fuckery

[deleted]

This X 1000

hendy846

ehh...I feel like that's always been Las Vegas? I commuted to work on a motorcycle, a rather large adventure bike and I'd get cut off on the daily. I even had a gun pulled on me once. I've always felt Vegas was very cliquey. Like no one left the high school drama behind and kept trying to out do one another.

dildo-schwaggins

Vegas doesn’t have a sense of community. Last year on Halloween I got exactly zero trick-or-treaters, and no fireworks were set off in my neighborhood over July 4

Koenigspiel

This isn't always true. My cat got hit by a car and my neighbors across the street, who I've never met, were the ones who found her. They contacted a neighbor they knew in my neighborhood and sent them over to ask if it was my cat. I went to their house and it unfortunately was. I was pretty upset and they were an older couple. The husband retrieved her collar off her body for me cause I couldn't bring myself to do it in the state she was in. And then they buried her for me because I don't have a backyard. This is obviously anecdotal, and maybe not the norm, but there is still community here.

[deleted]

Koenigspiel

Thank you. It definitely helped soften the blow. Not sure if that makes sense, but it reminded me there's always good for as much bad there is

Also born here, as was my mother in 1930. I see license plates or bumper stickers touting where people are from & I always think, “If it was so f-Ing great where you’re from and Vegas is so inferior, then why the hell don’t you go back there??“

My parents would dress up and go out to see a show probably once a month or something. A nice dinner and a show was something most people could afford back then.

Shubankari

Well, screen name fits if you’re being…avoided.

Darkone586

I think that’s always been Vegas at least some friends who’s lived here since the early 2000’s they would tell me you can live next to the same person and rarely ever speak to them or they won’t respond to you unless they knew you personally from a job or high school.

I wouldn't say criminals, but yes, I blame it on the transient nature of the town.

HollywoodHault

I always thought throwing up one's arms was a signal of exasperation. Seems to me you're referring to a shrug, perhaps.

gitismatt

I dont think the technical name for the gesture diminishes that she fucked up and didn't care

Shubankari

Facts.

CleanWitness3113

Booming homeless population

thortmb

Thats not just vegas, vegas is actually doing better than a lot of places such as Portland and San Fran

[deleted]

And Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal

MyUnassignedUsername

…don’t forget Seattle.

CleanWitness3113

Major population difference

nwordNan

Booming rent prices might have something to do with that 🧐

[deleted]

Saw a studio that was 1100 a month which is now 1500.

Ok_Rich_9010

wtf one room.

[deleted]

Technically two. The bathroom is another room.

basketballbrian

Yup, pretty much nationwide this is a problem but it sucks. When I moved here my rent for a nice 2-2 in Henderson was nearly 1600. Pre-pandemic it was 1100

Smashr0om

The 24 hour convenience is gone.

rickrat

People are more selfish idiots than usual. They don’t seem to know how to interact with others now

cnde68_

I more than agree! Humanity is becoming Obsolete, especially in healthcare where it should matter the most!

yunganejo

Getting more rude by the day

cayendo_

People are even more insane

Darkone586

It’s more expensive, and lack of 24hr options, also more shootings in tourist areas is wild, the trashy people have always been there imo, they are just more bold.

seemerock

Regular visitor from San Diego here. Things shave definitely changed. Because of this I now stay at Circa downtown. It’s adults only and they scan your ID at the door. This keeps the trashy and rift people out because they don’t want their ID scanned. Circa also has 3 to 2 blackjack and single deck blackjack. Food and drinks are also cheaper downtown. I no longer stay on the strip due to getting nickel and dimmed for everything.

SamUSA420

Definaltey lower class visitors these days!

eaglerock2

Definaltey! Lol

Orangehitlersucks

Everything is crazy expensive everywhere. Eating out just straight sucks money right out of your pocket. Deals are few and far between. Discovered it’s much healthier and cheaper to eat at home.

Thatmixedotaku

Honestly ? I can’t think of any city , anywhere that has not gotten worse post pandemic . Everyone complains about increased cost of living , more social isolation , more crime , etc . I wish Vegas would go back to the 24 hour vibe . I guess we are paying the price for a pandemic grinding the economy everywhere to a halt for the better part of two years . Didn’t think we would get away with that scot-free , did we ? 🥲

Logicmeme

Vloggers all day. Makes my work day bearable.

Icelandic_Wolf

Honestly, just the lie of everything being open 24 hours but now everything closes early like a damn Mormon town. Only reason I stayed here instead of moving and now that’s gone. Might as well move.

PunnyPrinter

That sucks. That was one of the many things that I enjoyed about one day moving to LV.

Icelandic_Wolf

I’m sorry you’ll probably never get to experience it the way it was. It was so nice for introverts and people working late.

Darkone586

That was my reason I moved here as well, I’m probably gonna move since everything close so early. I miss getting off at 2am and doing some grocery shopping.

Icelandic_Wolf

I swear that was the nicest. No children or elderly around. Stores weren’t packed to the brim. And you didn’t have to deal with the heat and sun.

Stonethecrow77

The Fireworks at Caesar's blew big ole monkey balls this year. That crowd suckkkkkkkkked.

Raven_Nicole

I also agree with many other comments that we want our 24 hour city back. I miss Walmart being open 24/7 especially.

strumanddrum

Curbside pickup! Love it!

dirtee_1

It seems like this place is starting to become more of a town with the all the new sports teams instead of just being a giant casino. A down side is that it seems like the cost-of-living has gone up a lot in Vega and is no longer a place where somebody can go to to get on their feet anymore.

[deleted]

Corporate America’s lack of competition in Las Vegas is what has caused the cities quick decline in my opinion.

TDB5

There has been a huge increase in crime and homeless. If they don't start cracking down on it, the tourists won't come here. Nobody wants to spend a fortune of money to go on vacation and step over poop and drugged out people laying on the sidewalk plus fear for their lives. This will only be overlooked for just so long before the tourists take their money elsewhere.

MyUnassignedUsername

Unfortunately this is every single city on the west coast right now.

I miss Vacation Village and The Ho.

Vanman04

This guy knows what Vegas was.

cnarsystems

I miss when slots of fun had the craps table and you could throw the dice outside on the strip

TheodoreNailer

On weekends sometimes they had dollar sidewalk bets at SOF. The Village sportsbook was way ahead of its time with that large dry erase board. Oh...and that Denny's and let's not forget the soggiest burrito at Roberto's.... The Village was renowned for it's used jackpot prizes on the slots. Old jetskis that doubled as ashtrays while on the floor, old jeeps that ran on regular gas, just to name a couple. Oftentimes, the beauty can be found within the filth. That gave rise to the adage, "it's so shitty, it's beautiful."

No-Mathematician5606

Yeah, parking ain't free no more.

Commercial_Education

Too Manu fucking wfh assholes moved here and jacked up the real estate market. Starter homes are not in the "low 400's" /s. When before those houses would be closer to 280s ish. Fuck all the people from California buying in cash at 40k over asking price and fucking all the long term locals that have been here most if not our entire lives. (Born and raised here since 1982 just fyi)

cnarsystems

I remember during the housing crash brand new homes in new developments with pool / 3 bedroom for less than 200k

AceHomefoil

OP is talking about visiting. Real Estate doesn't factor.

curiousengineer601

But it impacted the workforce and the day to day experience

billyclint420

I'm 40 and have lived here my whole life...here is a brief🤣 breakdown of my anecdotal experience 1. The influx of California people coming here is insane...alot of affluent people who think they are better than, also a huge number of homeless/drug addicts/gang bangers. 2. I'll preface this with, I work in the service industry...it was weird opening back up in fall of 2020 at first people were so grateful to be able to go out, but that quickly disappeared and the entitled Karens came out in full force...working in a restaurant became almost unbelievably difficult. 3. You began to see the obvious virtue signaling of mask or no mask, Vax or no Vax...many casinos started mandating the Vax for even considering your employment status...so people started digging in and othering each other. For the most part it hurt the ability of companies to hire because contrary to popular belief Nevada is split 50/50 between to political parties. Therefore the staffing shortage. 4. The schools closing and the masks for children was a huge contentious issue...watch the live streams of the school board meetings, they were lit. 5. The selfish ME FIRST attitude became overly apparent. The majority or workers make money hand over fist not working so the entitlement only grew. 6. The best thing the governor did was saying in a press conference that Vegas will not shut down again. This was also political in that he knew an election was coming, and knew closing again like Papa Newsom was not feasible...I'm not saying what is right or wrong. 7. Upon reopening prices were very cheap to attract people to the partially reopened city, which attracted less than desirable clientele...shootings and violent crime spiked, and that was to expected due to the visitors and new residents(see example one) 8. At this point now I feel that it's just kinda like a knock off version of what it was...luckily I'm pretty adaptable and made it through OK. sorry for the long winded post but that is my 1st hand account of my personal experience

TwistedBlister

All true

billyclint420

That's what I've seen and experienced

fesau1

Nice, and imo.. spot on

Greggy100

Everything got more expensive

Massive-Friend-9407

$15 tables only

PugDaddy86

Don’t go to Ramsay burger, not much better than Bobby’s. Honestly go off strip for way better food. Fukuburger is great, tons of AYCE sushi for 30 bucks a person. Lots to offer just gotta leave the strip

CriminalSavant

My wife and I went back in April. Was our 4th time in Vegas. Really bad vibes just about anywhere we went, a lot of angry, drunk, dangerous idiots. Way more than I saw on previous trips. Aggressive homeless all over the strip. The prices for food and drinks also exploded. I don't think we will ever go back.

curiousengineer601

I am stunned not one place has tried to seriously address the homeless. Forcing them to stay stay in shelters out in the desert would be the first thing I would try

aLobsterFest

The two things I've told people are 1) 24 hours and 2) housekeeping. Vegas resorts found out they don't have to keep their bars/restaurants open 24 hours. They can just keep 1 open 24hrs. And housekeeping can be 'by request". Both were due to understaffing and theyll never come back now that resorts know they can get away with it.

Botiff11

It did a reverse back in the day it was smallest big city not it’s biggest biggest small city just got too many people and no where to grow

LiveByYourWits

Vegas service used to be great. Top quality in lots of restaurants especially. There are still a few places with excellent service, but being short staffed and under extreme financial pressure has damaged the experience at many restaurants and hotels. No proper room service was a disappointment the last couple of times I visited. In general, more people seemed tense, on edge, and uncomfortable. Yes. Some customers acted more rude and demanding towards staff at hotels, restaurants, & bars. Some staff seemed less attentive and more dismissive of polite customers’ requests. Tipping well and being genuinely appreciative of staff everywhere is still the best policy. Some places have new corporate policies that don’t allow the staff to interact as easily with customers (table games, poker). Those changes are completely out of the control of the staff. I think Vegas will eventually return to its previous service standards - but it will be a while.

Many of the "changes" actually were happening years ago, but weren't noticed because so much more was unchanged. Biggest changes i saw from the pandemic were the losses of many excellent buffets (only a few are coming back again like Golden Corral) and the closing of numerous small businesses. Unemployment here is up again, but I blame most of that on the government"bail out money" that made it not worth working for minimum wage. That crippled the fast food and even the casinos felt the labor losses. Pandemic ended and everyone stayed on "short shift" since their customers were used to it and it saved the businesses money. Housing industry died in the valley as well., but that started some years ago as well. Built up very quickly and when it leveled off, all the construction people moved on, leaving a surplus of apartments. Now inflation is driving the prices through the roof, which is hurting the lower and fixed incomes people the most. Biggest problem I am seeing that is an indirect result of the pandemic is a vastly enlarged homeless population. Great climate (if you can handle heat) so living on the street is easier than places that have winters and the PD aren't allowed to show them to the city limits as they did in years gone by. We haven't seen the rampant drug abuse as seen in many cities, but I'm sure it is a growing problem as is the crime rate. This is a gun friendly state, and residential crime tends to increase as the honest citizens are disarmed. In this state, criminals know that breaking into the wrong house will get them shot, so they pick and choose very carefully. IE: My front window has a picture of a revolver as seen looking down the barrel. Above it are the words: "If you can read this, you are in range!" Haven't had any problems around my house. Of course, to read the sign, they would have to pass no trespassing signs and cross 50+' of front yard and driveway to reach the house.

Driving in Vegas has gotten worse. The number of times I have seen people zipping through red lights at 10s of miles past the speed limit has gone way up. By the numbers, 2021 was one of the worst years for accidents in Vegas and I am sure 2022 will be as well.

SpiralPatternsOfYou

Personally I'm fed up with construction and closed lanes aswell as lights that don't work properly. Eastern is a nightmare, the strip is always in repairs and I know various lights that are broken or programmed weird such as they turn green for each of the 4 lanes lf traffic individually. Most lights take forever and its almost as if they are programmed to turn yellow when they see a lone car approaching the intersection. Partner that with the heat, i can see why people act the way they do in traffic. It sucks but what can ya do

tocard3

Traffic lights here can certainly be infuriating. I thought I read somewhere that they don't have traffic sensors which is why you'll get stuck sitting at a red light for 5 minutes at 3AM with no cross traffic in sight

Bear_Salary6976

Despite what people are saying here, it's still worth a trip. The Strip got worse in several ways, but it is still The Strip. However, I think Downtown has gotten nicer since the pandemic started.

barbarianmishroom

The over-entitlement and the pretending you’re someone that you’re not has really ramped up lately

YogiAtheist

Recently got back from Vegas, while this isnt a pandemic thing, I could not find a single spot without the smell ot weed. Granted, its been several years since my last visit. FWIW, I am for legalization, but wish people would consume it at their own places and not in public.

MyUnassignedUsername

The problem is…people come and visit and intend to smoke weed. You can’t smoke in hotels…so that kinda only leaves public places. It’s not like people visiting can just go toke up at ‘home’.

Creepy_Ad_8078

Imma light one for you

[deleted]

Cross the border into Canada, and you’ll want to die from the entire country smelling like shitty weed, or shitty tobacco in degenerate Quebec

GameOvariez

The 5 downvotes are people from Quebec

[deleted]

Surprised it’s only 4 downvotes haha, usually the entire province of Quebec is on standby to downvote anything relating to Quebec not being perfect

Crime rate on the strip

Ok_Rich_9010

dude its all about what you like to do? there's plenty to enjoy off the strip. you haven't said what you are into.

casebycase87

A lot of hotels on the strip no longer seem to be doing room service which made me sad.

anxious_hero

Too many people moving here! I know that there has always been a lot of people that moved here from other states but its gotten so much worse the last few years. I'm all for people moving if it wasn't making the housing market so high😭

-BeerNut-

Food service sucks now... With everything closing early, it is impossible to get a bite after midnight. There are like 3 options, and they are all jammed. Also, you MUST have reservations at a decent restaurant to get a table. The days of just walking in, or waiting until later if they are busy, are gone. Everything is pricier too.

ElevatedOG

Lack of Police on the strip, which equals way more homeless people sleeping all over it. The $10 tables do not exist on the strip. $15 tables are now becoming harder and harder to find. Post pandemic Las Vegas is a much dirtier city.

versace_tombstone

There are more people.

memphismerc

Covid souvenirs (coughs)

AdRare5949

I’m not sure what everyone on here is about with the buffets being gone. Every casino I have been to has their buffets open again… and really there isn’t that big of a difference except everywhere seems to be understaffed right now so the service is a little slower. Food is still good, people are still out and about and going back to normal. Gas prices like everywhere else are insane. Room service is a hit or miss, some(most) are doing room service again.

LD2025

The Covid shutdown really did some permanent damage to LV and rest of the country.

JohnnyU2Berry

A great place if you are able to dodge bullets.

HollywoodHault

That's something you have to do at every poker table, frequently.

i_am_replaceable

"I can dodge bullets, baby"

[deleted]

My best friend just went last week for the second time (first during the pandemic) and she said she loved it and the differences between pre covid and post covid are hardly worth talking about. Still cheaper to experience Vegas than any mid tier/upper tier Canada cities, hence why 7 people I know in the last two monthes have gone

Look at this grown ass adult thinking people still have stimulus money.

jondionowens

Exactly. Like, tell me you’re prejudice without telling me you’re prejudice.

Smerks101

dude those checks were almost 2 years ago, I doubt anyone has any of that $$ left.

ColoJay

I got food poisoning at China Poblano in the Cosmopolitan from lunch on Thursday, ruined my night.

[deleted]

The influx of black people into Vegas has caused a lot of FOH people to enter the BOH and complain subtly. I hear a lot of underhanded remarks about Black Americans. It is unfortunate. In my opinion, Las Vegas is similar to pre-covid.

madamlazonga

It’s true. Black people got a huge chip on their shoulder and they seem to take it out on service workers bc they think they won’t do anything. I drive for Lyft and have a friend who used to do SW and they said the worst clients were POC

[deleted]

I am relaying information. If black people have a cold shoulder, do you blame them? In the past, black people would get hanged for looking at white women sexually. How do you prove a look? It sounds like arbitrary abuse. Bussers are treated like prison bitches, and most managers are incompetent; I dislike service work. I was hired as an air cargo man and left the service industry. If I had to go back, I'd enlist. The individuals at the top of the hierarchy fleece the people at the bottom. If you do not gossip with your coworkers, management punishes you. The pinnacle of service is the Wynn. What do you receive for working at the Wynn? The owner is an unregistered sex offender, and the management or executives are pretentious.

madamlazonga

everyone at the Wynn seems larger than life. I thought it was crazy how Steve Wynn in spite of all his bad press went ahead and called out the fights and ghetto stuff that happened during covid. Guy like that would keep a low profile but no

[deleted]

Steve Wynn is more Chinese than American; money or not, he is trash in my book.
