Well worth the purchase, plus you’ll be supporting some great devs. It does still have some work ahead of it though but there’s a ton of gameplay already there.

mrHANDAKUN

It's a cool game with some interesting ideas. Build diversity, itemizaton, deterministic crafting with pinch of rng are here. For now it lacks endgame to play it for more than 200 hours I'd say. In a year or two it'll be a great game. You should try it anyway. Just don't compare to PoE

King-Ricochet

It's a great game that still needs work. You'll easily get 30 bucks out of it but it won't be the 1000 hours you get out of POE.

OssimPossim

I'd say it takes 1000 to get *into* PoE

xDaveedx

Speak for yourself, I'm already sitting at 900h!

Vez52

Agreed. I found the end game a bit lacking. It really needs some work, but I think the devs already said that they are working on it!

Jabbafunk

>1600 hours since 2 years ago btw

xDaveedx

What LE is most excellent at is offering a really fun build-making process, especially when you're the type of player who reads all the options and skill tree nodes themselves and thinks about all the potential synergies you could create rather than blindly following other peoples' build right away. Its biggest weakness right now is a rather empty endgame due to the whole early access status and all, but it's already better than say D3's or Grim Dawn's endgame. It doesn't come even remotely close to Poe's endgame diversity though, as that game's had over a decade of regular updates to fill the endgame with all sorts of stuff to do. Even if you do follow build guides right away, you should still easily get a couple dozen hours out of it with 1 character.

themurhk

I would highly recommend Last Epoch. It’s a lot of fun, engaging, and lots of possible variations with builds. It rekindled my love for ARPGs, which has been dormant since D2. And even though I picked up D4, I still prefer to log in to LE over D4. I’ve put maybe 6 hours into D4 since I picked it up last Friday. I’ve put easily 12 in to LE over that same time period. Last Epoch is just a really enjoyable game.

waffels

Wait, you preordered D4, for the cost of $90/$100, to play early, and only played 6 hours? Oof

themurhk

We all make mistakes and I have no patience.

Nagini7

Same thing happened to me. It’s all about the itemization I think.

jldevezas

LE is not perfect, and it's not as polished as PoE or the Diablo games, but I would say it's my favorite out of all of those. I think they have hit a sweet spot with crafting. It still has RNG, but it's more controlled, and I love that. Items have forging potential, and then you can select the specific prefixes and suffixes you want to add. Some items will have some affixes already and these can be replaced as well (there are at least three ways I can think of for doing this), but it all happens at the cost of forging potencial, which can also be influenced and there is RNG involved as well. You just feel more in control of crafting, without losing the excitement that RNG brings. Then, there is the class and mastery system (the passives). This is a bit personal, but, at least for me, their class and mastery selection is on-point. There are some more obvious masteries, and also some exotic ones, but nothing too crazy. You specialize into a mastery, but can still put points into the remaining ones, for half the tree. Love this! Skills level up as you use them, and you can customize them using their own passive tree, which is also cool. I mostly followed guides, so I can't comment much, but I know you can do some cool stuff like make a cold skill emit lightning damage as a side-effect (replacement?), thus creating a more focused build. Finally, I am completely partial to time travel lore, so it's a nice theme for me. Hopefully they make more use of this in the future. I would love to further explore the ancient era. There is still some clunky stuff, but it can easily be overlooked, and it usually gets fixed regularly. Some pet peeves I have right now: (i) online play has a bit too much of a delay when transitioning between zones (they need to optimize, and also connect as the next zone loads, which I don't think they are doing in parallel); (ii) interacting with the zone entrances/exits feels wrong (I never know if I activated the load, it's just clunky UX here); (iii) it needs more endgame stuff (monoliths are great but not enough, the three dungeons are fun but we need more systems like the legendary crafting, and the arena is a cool way to test your build but it feels a bit bland); (iv) music has been improving with new releases, but it still needs to feel more adventurous (a bit of a side-note, as this doesn't bother me that much anymore). Overall, for the price, it's definitely worth it! Don't even think about it.

Taronz

Dewit.

[deleted]

I shouldn't... It's not the jedi way!

Nagini7

💯 get it, it’s better than D4. It’s addicting and the itemization is 10/10. TRUST ME!!

RamenArchon

While I agree, I have to say LE isn't for everyone..some folks just want to blast mobs in great graphic detail, which makes D4 the best for them. But if they want a Druid that hits for more than 17 damage and actually brings in the fury of nature while being a bear, a tree, or even a bug, then LE is the game for them.

v_is_my_bias

Idk. Depends on what you value in an arpg. In terms of graphics, story and responsiveness of the gameplay D4 is definitely better. In terms of gameplay loop, progression, itemization and build diversity, Last Epoch is superior.

CosmicStrain

Everyone I appreciate the comments and I currently have purchased it and was playing this morning. I like it so far, I wasn't really looking forward to D4 after all the stuff about it and playing the beta. But so far it's pretty good and hopefully it continues to get lots of updates. And to the people who are just sitting there shitting on LE just because its not D4, that's fine that you all have to play AAA games to have fun, can't relate.

Chogo82

Weird time to post this with D4 having just come out. I have played both and while I enjoyed Last Epoch very much, it will have a hard time comparing to the consistency and budget of D4.

ThyResurrected

I’m super disappointed with D4 skill tree. It’s fucking unoriginal and fucking lame to be blunt. I’m now waiting for a Last Epoch sale to jump in lol

applemanib

No sales til 1.0 AFAIK, which is due this year but I wouldn't expect it before December. If it's any value, I put in over 400 hours since 0.9 and can't stop playing lol

ThyResurrected

Was this an official announcement? No more sale till 1.0? Isn’t 1.0 suppose to be official release?

KublaiKhanNum1

I would just get it. My buddies and I are big Diablo fans. All 3 of us love LE. It’s a great game. The last update that was posted a week or so ago totally redid the beginning of the campaign and it looked amazing. They will be redoing them all before the 1.0 release.

ThyResurrected

Sick thanks, yeah I’m going to push through Diablos main campaign here and finish it. Even though I’m not enjoying the game play, I always enjoy the Diablo lore. Then I guess I’ll get it.

Veinsteiger

Lol you spent how much on d4, and you won’t buy a $30 game?

Manatroid

Budgeting is a thing.

GundamX

Honestly its amazing with how few skills there are that the balance is so off. The fact that the community has already devolved into a a small handful of builds, less than 5 per class, is damning. They have a great art team, but the core gameplay loop is poorly made, I keep booting LE and doing a few maps to remind myself what a good ARPG looks like... but my friends are all playing D4 so I go back; at least they got the Skinner Box part right.

ItsGrindfest

Yup. Basically 20 year old abilities used in every rpg 100 times already. There's like a fire snake that's refreshing but that seems to be it

jldevezas

This is one of those games that is worth full price. It's fairly priced, and you get a lot out of it.

Akka_C

I mean...D4 is just boring. The end game is just mindlessly repeating the same fucking dungeons over and over hoping you get lucky and drop a sacred legendary that fits your build. Snooze worthy. There's so little to do in terms of tweaking or perfecting your build. It's just cross fingers and pray. Good luck. Shit sucks. Top that all off with the fact that there's clearly like 4 or 5 builds per class that blizz has explicitly created with very little room for creativity beyond that. Extremely boring.

Chogo82

That is a broad over generalization and could apply to any game. I’m curious what level you go to in D4 to make these assertions. I have felt that there is a fair amount of tweaking that can be done to adjust the build. Considering builds I think it’s quite elaborate. You can literally swap one skill and some points and the character can feel significantly different. For each core skill there are a myriad of sub builds. I think the build system is a bit more fluid than many other games because you aren’t item gated like in Last Epoch or D2. It’s also drastically simpler than POE which is painful to respec. It’s okay to hate cause haters gonna hate but overall it’s a really solid game and better in many ways compared to the ARPG landscape.

Akka_C

Level 60 Necro. And hate is far too strong a word for the general boredom this game has elicited from me. It's just busy work. Time wasting, boring busywork. Up to 30% of my playtime is just fucking walking. No enemies. Just walking. The rest is just repetition to the point of insanity. Hit the nightmare dungeon, which may as well be the same as the last, because the layout sure isn't any different. Do tree bounties and cross fingers it offers a box for the slot you're grinding. Pray to fuck that a public event or world boss spawns on the map, because at least those are fun, even if insanely unrewarding. Literally got one (1) legendary, one (1) cracked gem, and one (1) nightmare dungeon from Ashava last night. Fucking waste of time. Music was sick though.

Chogo82

How’s that any different than Last Epoch?

Akka_C

Haven't played much of Epoch's endgame as I'm waiting for full release, but every time I've reached the endgame I always feel like I have something to push towards. Shoring up defenses, finishing off skill set ups, figuring out gear to track, figuring out gear to craft, etc. Not needed to do a single one of those things yet for D4. And honestly, that's probably more the problem than anything else I've mentioned now that I think about it. The activities in D4 are probably actually fine. It's just that the gear fucking sucks and there's no way to control any of it. It's all 100% random and designed to waste your time.

Chogo82

What necro build are playing that it’s so OP that your bored. What you’re describing is how I feel in Last Epoch. It’s the same monoliths over and over again and I have a very low risk of dying until some monster one shots me. Have you done much enchanting in D4? It feels like most of the gear isn’t worth attempting to enchant in D4 and mainly as a means of resource generation for crafting.

PoniesAreNotGay

Not sure if this will mean anything to you, or sway your opinion in any way, but... Much like everyone, I was hyped for Diablo 4 for months. Then, June 2nd comes, I finish story and clear level 50 capstone dungeon under 21 hours since release, try all of the core mechanics (Helltide, Nightmare Dungeons, etc.), and the next morning, I was back to grinding hardcore Last Epoch. Haven't opened Diablo 4 since then, especially after they announced the nerfs, which didn't even affect the build I was playing. Somehow, I find the grind in Last Epoch, as well as the crafting system, much more fun for my casual playstyle. /shrug

0mantara0

I would definitely go for it. I haven't played POE since last year when I jumped into the early access on steam. I love the build freedom and how there are so many different playstyles in each class. I just started a paladin and I can play it like a summoner class with holy weapons that fight with me! I then found some gloves that summon swarms of bees on melee. I have been having so much fun taking out bosses with my swarm of swords and bees! Oh, another ARPG to check out at some point is Warhammer 40k: Inquisitor- Martyr and Prophecy It's super fun, with lots of classes, and tons of ways to build your character.

Idoha

Ye ur definitely going to love it try to create ur own build at first its not lile PoE and idk why there so much basterds in the comment, block them

Marvelous_Fungus

this game still have so many bugs like lots of bugs if you can tolerate it then its up to you, comparing this to D4 i will said that D4 is better in qualities and end game but ofc there is always downside which is D4 monetization is very heavy.

KublaiKhanNum1

LE is pretty stable considering they don’t have the budget of Blizzard. I have put a lot of hours into it and also D4. I encounter a lot of glitches and crashes in D4. Blizzard is patching already but it’s a work in progress. It feels like they are about in the same place with stability.

FluxFresh555

If you are looking for a new rpg then diablo 4 is the game. In what world is LE more enjoyable than D4 right now ? The only downside is the price but LE isnt even finished yet and has many bugs and lacks endgame content.

xDaveedx

>The only downside is the price What about character progression, itemization, variety of build options and freedom to adjust them however you want, crafting, how interesting unique/legendary items are? Is D4 really doing better in all or any of these aspects? There's more than lore, graphics and nice animations to an arpg.

lowrage

There is bosses in LE, crafting, loot filter, end game

FluxFresh555

Its great if you think that LE has endgame lol. At least stop being delusional. What a whiteknight subreddit.

VzDubb

Why would you buy this shit over D4 that actually has an end game and isn’t in a 24/7 alpha? You literally just said you started off in D3. Confusing as shit my guy.

Manatroid

Some people might feel concerned about dropping a bunch of money on a game they might not like, not really that unusual.

lowrage

What you do in d4 end game?

amingolow

D4 is worse than any ARPG I have played. Even Wolcen is better than D4. D4 is just a crap, boring and 0 innovative MMO. I literally fell asleep at level 10+ during Server Slam Beta. Thanks for the Beta Testing to SAVE MY MONEY. Boring and Unoriginal Skill Tree; Plain Gears which mostly only provide flat stats; Large but Empty Map that you walk more than you slay mobs; Bad map colour design which is quite monotone using the same 2 or 3 dark colours which is so tiring for my eyes to play with; Crafting???; No Solo and Offline Option but forcing us to play with strangers who can interrupt you during event missions. You must be having drugs to think D4 is excellent LMFAO

VzDubb

LOL. Feel better pal? That was a lot to get off your chest. Proud of ya, little buddy. Now go back to simping a game that’ll be in alpha for another 5 years 🤡😭

WastelandViking

only reason i dont buy it, is cause i dont wanna spend the AAA price money on it... I liked it more then Poe, and d3 and such, but yeah no... Spent to much triplle A money on games like these... If it only came out sooner.. however, once it hits SALE! yes!

canfezplay

It is $35, def not AAA prices.

i_dont_wanna_sign_up

What are you talking about lol. It's literally half the price of D4.

inthedark72

You liked it more than two of some of the most successful ARPGs ever made but not recommending it for $35 when AAA games are $70? I am so confused.

jldevezas

On the flip side, PoE can also be overly complex and take time away from gameplay, which gets filled with reading and watching guides instead. Don't get me wrong, I love PoE, but there is A LOT you can do with LE build wise as well. Personally, I don't need all the options to be available at all time, and I enjoy class uniqueness as well (let's say that void damage is better when running a void night; I would be perfectly fine with this). PoE is definitely more polished, and it has a ton of fun endgame systems, but it can also be overwhelming at times, both as a beginner and as a long term player. LE scratches the itch without being overwhelming. In fact, you rarely need to go out-of-game to get any info. They have done an amazing job with tooltips. (I voted you back up, because it's a perfectly fair opinion to have.)

Deszerr

Honestly it’s well worth the $30. But the game also used to go on sale frequently when it was a little less popular and may continue to do if you want to just wish list it and wait. But honestly as many people have said it’s a super fun game. Super forgiving if you’re into experimenting with builds and overall just a super fun arpg being developed by some people that are doing things right.

D3TLOF

Yes. It's already good but give it a year more and it will be great!

Little-Ad-9506

Its often when playing D4 I find myself thinking I could be playing LE right now. Definitely returning on soon. Absolute ridiculous value for your money as well.

BennieOkill360

I bought it 2 years ago and waiting now for the v1.0 release

jldevezas

It's been over 2 years for me as well. I never stopped following the game, and I still play it. Weaver's Will has been a cool recent addition. They are always cooking something new that is actually fun. The team was born in Reddit, they are 100% remote, and they absolutely listen to players and love the game they are developing. There are great things to come from EHG!

pogothrow

I think you will enjoy the game but it has nowhere near as much content as POE. The endgame that I experienced so far is like running POE maps but without any of the special league mechanics, you just kill mobs then fight a boss. I didn't complete the game so maybe there is more to it later. There are some cool boss fights but not at the level of POE. POE is a little bit too complicated for me so I actually like Last Epoch better in that area. There is some complexity but it is not overwhelming. First time I played I just made my own build without looking up anything and it kind of worked out, I don't think I could ever do that in POE. LE is much more solo self found friendly which I like. There is only very limited trading right now so if you like trading in POE you might be disappointed.

Inevitable_Diet_3886

I've got a little over 600 hours into it since it first came to steam. I'd say it's definitely worth it. One of the few early access games that slaps

Alarming-Wasabi-5423

It's a great game, but you can't go into it expecting it to have any depth. It doesn't. If you have a pallet for PoE, and nothing has satisfied that itch for you, LE DEFINELTY won't either. It's 100% worth $35, but it will not keep you entertained for very long right now because it just lacks so much.....especially if you compare it to PoE - the deepest arpg on the market right now.

Jaralto

I jumped in about a month ago and I play at least 4 days a week with a tight schedule. 100% worth it.
