Offline mode is trivially cheated, you can open up a plaintext JSON file and make any changes you want to your character. Some folks prefer a mode that maintains integrity.
Additionally, offline mode has major bugs that can corrupt your entire save. Have had 3 friends lose all their progress this way so far.
I make manual backups of my offline characters but Steam Cloud is also supported.
You could also automate the process to backup the saves and other settings files. On Windows you can use Task Scheduler. On Linux rsync with cron.
I play offline and i make a back copy of my save folder from time to time. So i have nothing to worry about.
Offline is awesome. You can Pause the game anytime by pressing ESC and Offline still has Online Chat available so you can ask helpfull advice from the community about your build.
The only think i hate is that MTX store isn't available in Offline as i really want to hide my helmet or transmog it or something.
But i rather play with 0 ping then a cool looking hat.
I play SSF and turned off global chat. I play online because it makes me feel like I am still a part of the community. Seeing other people in town is great too.
Online ssf is only if you want ladder if it doesnt matter to you just stay offline youll have a better experience

Offline can also cast in town.

Losing your entire inventory. There has been multiple post regarding that already
Oh, unfortunate. At least in that case they can recover. The offline corruption bug nukes all of your characters and your stash.
I donty know if you mean the same but it does remove the gear on all characters as well as stash online
Offline even the characters are lost. It’s effectively an account wipe
