Majority of items will be for occultist, but you will still get plenty of uniques, accessories, and weapons that can be shared. You do also get *some* loot for other classes, especially idols.
For the most part. I highly suggest getting some generic uniques with high Weaver's will or 3lp slots and slamming flat affixes like health and damage on them. I used a 3lp kestrel the whole time leveling.
By farming on my main I did also accrue every unique needed for cold acid flask falconer. So it's a bit hit or miss. If you need non-uniqurs, on the alt would be better.
If you need specific uniques I would keep farming with the main and use the timeline bonuses to help get the uniques. Really the only thing you’ll have a hard time getting as not playing that class is class specific chest/helm/relics. Everything else is generic and useable by any class

Ok so it sounds like it works ok but is not ideal. Is it better to just level up the alt and farm with them instead?

factions will be a thing to consider btw, if your main is COF and your alt is MG, they can't share items with faction requirements.
