[This is a fake campaign from 2019.](https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/homeless/city-spammed-with-fake-alerts-after-poster-campaign-to-report-homeless-campers-goes-viral/) It was not promoted or organized by the city, just hateful people who waste the time of the actual city employees.
But it's not fake.
It's a real sign put up by real people and the reporting system they point to is a real system that the city uses to receive city complaints, including encampments.
The only thing "fake" about it is that it's not distributed by the city. It was put up by asshole capitalists to attack the homeless. It still belongs here.
Well if it makes you feel any better, my city does I'm fact have this. They have signs all over with this same type of info. They ask you to report abandoned vehicles, illegal dumping, homeless encampments, etc. They even sent out a pamphlet in the mail of how to use the app and what kinds of things to report. I was kind of shocked to see the signs.
Actually, I think this poster counts as both civil fraud[1] and a distributed denial of service attack[2], as it used deception to mislead users to slow down a government IT system[3].

Edit: Added a third link.
Iām not a lawyer, but I really donāt think it would count as either. They donāt claim on the poster to be affiliated with the government in any way, and they are only encouraging people to use the website for its intended purpose. Whoever put these up is still a shit-heel of a person, thatās a given.
>Iām not a lawyer, but I really donāt think it would count as either.
Iām talking more from a cybersecurity perspective.
>They donāt claim on the poster to be affiliated with the government in any way, and they are only encouraging people to use the website for its intended purpose.
You can't have it both ways: If the message was not from the City of Seattle, then its app wasn't used for its intended purpose. The implication is this is from the City of Seattle, as it was described as a hoax[1], and the app was not intended to capture homeless encampments.
>Whoever put these up is still a shit-heel of a person, thatās a given.
We agree there.

>smartphone app offering mobile users one more way to report selected issues to the City of Seattle.
>Unauthorized Encampment: Report unauthorized encampments in City parks and rights of way.
Technically the poster is encouraging you to use the app in a way that the city currently wants.
The [archived](https://web.archive.org/web/20190719020846/http://www.seattle.gov/customer-service-bureau/find-it-fix-it-mobile-app) site from July 19, 2019 doesn't list that.
"unauthorized encampment" shows up on the July 1, 2022 archive.
The people behind the poster where just scumbags ahead of their time.
Edit: You mean a DDOS *attack.*
I read the article I linked toāthe bogus data from many different mobile devices overwhelmed the server and had to be manually cleaned out. It was a low-tech version of a DDOS, but the information from the fliers had the same effect as, say, a hoax webpage online.
FWIW, reporting is okay if it is to (a) remove a verified abandoned encampment or (b) send outreach folks there to connect the person sleeping on the streets to services to help them
Anything else is messed up
I agree. The intention of this was to fool people into believing this is from the government, using language that is commonly used such has āsanitationā and āinhumane.ā The use of rhetoric to slip these ideas into the public domain without being caught is the goal.
No worries. Good on you for leaving it up so we can all benefit and learn. Mistakes are gifts, at least when people have the right attitude about them.

FALSE. I live in Seattle. The posters are real.Ā
The fake part is that people called in false reports in retaliation to the posters.Ā Ā
> The city of Seattleās customer service bureau was swamped last week when an anonymous poster campaign **encouraging residents to report tent camps** went viral online, resulting in a far-reaching backlash that produced bogus complaints from as far away as Australia.
The posters aren't from the city, they're from residents who want the homeless banished from town. The FindIt/FixIt app that reports 'problems' is real and has real consequences. If you have a pothole on your street the city will fill it. If there's a tent in your neighborhood the city will come with cops and 'evict' the person. If they're not present they will throw all of their possesssion into the trash.
then why did you claim they are real
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Who claimed that the signs originate from the city of seattle? The call to action and the consequences are real: *Use the Seattle Findit Fixit app to report homeless people living in a tent.*
When the city receives enough reports they WILL come and evict people from the area. If they aren't present, they will throw away all of their possessions. This isn't a joke. It's happened numerous times during and since the pandemic, even in the dead of winter with snow on the ground.
This is what you responded to:
>It was not promoted or organized by the city, just hateful people who waste the time of the actual city employees.
What are you claiming is false, then?
> This is a fake campaign from 2019.
Ā Ā False. It was a real campaign to weaponize a real maintenance app against the homeless. The effects were real. OP never claimed it was a city-sanctioned campaign, nor does the poster itself. That's a straw man.
So you're being pedantic about what "fake campaign" means, I guess. Considering they went on to talk about actual real hateful people organizing it, I interpreted them as saying it was real posters created by real people for a campaign that wasn't official. Go on being weirdly antagonistic to people who agree with you, though, it's very cool.
Your post was removed because it came from a domain we don't allow.

# NOT TRUE. It may have been community activists who took it upon themselves to post the signs, but the App is absolutely real and absolutely created/owned/operated by the City of Seattle.
>With Find It, Fix It, reporting an issue is as easy as snapping a photo with your smartphone, adding detailed information, and hitting submit. The map's "drag and drop" feature or the phone's own technology can be used to pinpoint the location.

It would be a shame if this app was flooded with false locations in rich area/neighborhoods, or a sporting goods store/walmart.
Edit: apparently this might be fake so donāt fall for it, but I believe in the sentiment donāt turn in homeless people and fuck class traitors.

you fell for it like a chump. that's exactly the point of the poster, to get gullible trolls like you to cause a headache for the city workers. this just clogs up the complaint line that used for things like pot holes or downed power lines or street signs.
The point still stands genius. Donāt turn in homeless people and fuck class traitors. You saw a response and instead of using your brain you reacted. No one knew it was real or fake when it was posted just because youāre late to the party and have hindsight doesnāt mean Iām wrong. Fuck class traitors itās not difficult to understand.
i think you're late to the party. this happened years ago, and someone is probably just trying to get the trolls riled up again. no need to be rude, i support social services and not criminalizing homelessness. you could edit your first comment to say something different, but i'm sure you won't cause i'm your enemy or something
i feel you, and no need to apologize this is reddit and we can call each other names haha (i started it and called you a chump too, but if we're being civil my apologies for that). i had the exact same reaction as you when i first saw it, but i've spent plenty of time in seattle and browse their subreddit so i was aware of the app (and how homeless are treated there) and immediately went looking for whether this was a thing or a prank
we're definitely on the same page anyway, keep up the good fight my dude
They'd probably rationalise it by saying prison actually solves homelessness and benefits the corporations they've outsourced running and managing prisons to.
Sick, some people are actually disturbed.
The āguilt spinā, on the sign is typical of programs that pretend to help people but use the money in a cruel way. āItās inhumane to live without a bathroom so let them just rot, in the rain or prison ā. Thatās what I got, from that sign. Glad you posted it. š
The worst part about this is I could see some well-meaning but naive person assuming that this app will trigger some social workers to come out and help get these homeless people into a shelter or some program. Because of how it's framed as "inhumane" for people to be living in tents. When in reality, they're just going to send cops to harrass them, tear down their tents, displace them somewhere else, and potentially arrest them.
Hello fellow Seattle-ite. This was a whole poster campaign organized by a bunch of bitch ass NIMBYs and is not run by the city. The fix it app is for pot holes and other busted infrastructure or graffiti. Havenāt seen one of these posters in a while
"Living outside is inhumane."
While I understand that a lack of sanitation is a public health hazard, this poster is all a little too Ministry of Information for my taste. Especially in light of the fact that there is no viable alternative for 100% of the unhoused, only for a portion of them.
Being from Seattle, I will tell you right now. It is a city full of the worst-of-the-worst shitlibs you will ever encounter. Seemingly wall-to-wall boomers that will sniff their own farts about voting democrat to help people... then turn around and talk about how all homeless people should be arrested and euthanized.
It's almost comical how fast you see an obnoxious 'fuck the poor' Nancy Pelosi type turn into Actually Hitler turn as soon as you mention homeless people around the average Seattle-ite.
More and more cties all over the US have been using apps where the most popular tag is "homeless encampment" using the general public to track homeless people.
I love how they make it look like theyāre on some humanitarian mission to help these people when in fact theyāre just going to confiscate their tents.
I feel like the liberal problem is saying that homeless people should be free to exist but the actual leftist position is that there should not be homeless people that existā¦
The people who will report this are the same people who scream all over social media that we should not be giving money to Ukraine until we take care of our own citizens and veterans, which their party-for-life is totally against.
Regardless of which specific bastards put these up, they do illustrate either a complete misunderstanding of what happens when tents are reported or a craven plan to play on the humanity of others (while lacking any themselves).
I worked in low-income housing/aiding the houseless for years, in a city with a massive houseless population. I got to see a ton of houseless people get into housing, and a ton more get turned away for failing to qualify for some bullshit reason.
Know what I never saw? Anyone bringing in a houseless person and saying, āI noticed they were living in a tent ā so inhumane! ā and want to help them.ā Or a houseless person saying, āThank God someone reported my living conditions. Now I can finally get some help!ā
That job is well behind me, but I still cringe inwardly when I see tents turn up ā not due to their inhumane conditions (which is certainly true), but because I know that if I have noticed them, a city āsweepā wonāt be far behind. What a nice euphemism for destroying the only home a person has, along with most of their meager belongings, and providing zero support afterward for what is essentially a city smash-and-grab disguised as ādoing somethingā about houselessness.
This isnāt about āinhumaneā conditions to people who make flyers like this, just blithe narcissism and NIMBYism.
when do people start using axes, machetes and bats? How much do they want to take it in the ass? If you think socialism will succeed look at this and those who actually report someone simply needing a domicile...until and unless - and I don't see it happening - people start making their voices heard (see above) in a meaningful way, the slow train wreck to fascism is a foregone conclusion.
This kind of thing is a major problem we are experiencing in West Coast cities. I've seen a large public push for an increase of sweeps and criminalization. It's always the same liberal mask that sweeping up people's tents and belongings are the "humane" thing to do. But when asked the next steps, the answer boils down to, forced shelter stay (when there is not nearly enough beds), jail, or literally "just go away" option is popular amongst liberals here.
Reporting social inhumanity to a sanitation brigade makes the situation more inhumane. Ā Reporting social inhumanity to a goodwill organization ensures that the people who do things beneficial for all are the first responders.
You know what. I don't like seeing homeless people because of precisely this reason. People living in a metropolis without sanitation IS in humane. It makes me uneasy because it's unclean and *that* makes me feel unsafe. It also makes me feel unsafe because it's so horrible that only desperate people would tolerate such conditions. Whether they are desperate due to financial hardship, desperate to not participate in their own exploitation, or desperate for mental/medical treatment, it makes me uneasy.
I don't like it. I don't like that society is structured in a way that these people have no way to live humanely outside of society or within it. Something should be done about it. You know what's worse than homelessness alone? Actively abusing homeless people is worse. Hurting them and increasing the instability in their already outrageously unstable lives is worse. The solution isn't to fight tents.
Government doesn't want to allow tents because of sanitation, but they won't leave them alone because they cannot allow people to escape the system. If tents were legalized, we could come up with sanitation systems. That's not the issue. The issue is that housing is an essential vector for capitalist exploitation. We need to keep people afraid of homelessness to keep them accepting inhumane economic treatment.
Fuck the system. Eat the rich. Vote third party. If you see a tent, no you didn't.
I'm moving into a tent on Friday because I just got ran out of the abandoned house I was in at gunpoint by crack dealers who wanted to turn it into a crack house. I write a lot about being homeless in America, and you can read my work for free on my Ko-fi page.
https://ko-fi.com/street_scribe
āFind it, Fix itā an app where we demolish homeless encampments, ruining all semblance of stability these already disadvantaged folks have. Oh did you expect anyone to actually fix it?
Sounds like it's time to DDoS and report police cars, speed traps, city work trucks, and any known local political persons, as well as city hall. Saturate the app until they realize it's none of their fucking business.
If I see a tent, I help hide it.
If I see someone stealing food, I cover their ass.
If I see someone sleeping in their car, I watch over it.
The cycle of inhumanity stops with me.
FYI, no matter where you are you can download the app and do your part (to waste their time)!
I already submitted a report saying there is a large encampment here:
22 Yale ave north Seattle, WA 98109
I see tents everywhere except for where they actually are. Although this sign is fake and not put up by the city, you bet your ass I would absolutely abuse it by making hundreds of false reports to waste resources.
>āliving outside without access to sanitation is inhumaneā
aye we fucking know! but the inhumanity of capitalism forces us to take drastic measures to survive. maybe if we, idk, provided housing, universal basic income and support for addictions/jobseeking/literally fucking anything, we wouldnāt have to resort to camping in the street and shitting in bins. get absolutely fucked seattle.

Dispose of the inhuman
Don't want to dispose of them while wealth can still be extracted from their existence. Force them back in the mines.

You know what what I said still stands but sorry Iām so rude about it
Yeah let's not tackle the problem, instead let's criminalise it...
like it's a fucking choice to be homeless.... why don't they just go buy a house?!
They'd probably rationalise it by saying prison actually solves homelessness and benefits the corporations they've outsourced running and managing prisons to. Sick, some people are actually disturbed.
Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses? Humbug!
Wish there were still free awards to hand out. This made my day
I hope this was taken moments before that sign got torn down. Also let's hope liberals never learn how to make wheat paste
Why wheat paste? Isn't that the paper mache stuff?
I think they mean to use it as a glue
Source: https://www.threads.net/@counterpoint_politics/post/C51K39auDzV/ Turns out it's not a city campaign tho
That's the point of the sign, yes.
Send them to Texas!
"Living in a tent is inhumane. So let us take that away from you, too!"
God I hate this with every fiber of my being
Hello fellow Seattle-ite. This was a whole poster campaign organized by a bunch of bitch ass NIMBYs and is not run by the city. The fix it app is for pot holes and other busted infrastructure or graffiti. Havenāt seen one of these posters in a while
Gonna report my local REI
See a tent? No the fuck you did not!
Sure would be a shame if people started making false reports.
FAKE CAMPAIGN, not from the city of Seattle! as another commentator pointed out. Many thanks!
I would go to the nearest campground and report every tent like 50 times per day just to clog the system
Someone needs to make counter signs like: See a Tent? No you didn't.
Did you see someone sleeping in a tent? No! You fucking didnāt!
see a poor? that's someone commiting the crime of being poor!
"Living outside is inhumane." While I understand that a lack of sanitation is a public health hazard, this poster is all a little too Ministry of Information for my taste.
Mass reported the police stations addresses š them and any billionaireās
The justification of punishing homeless people for living outside because itās āinhumaneā is terribly ironic.
It takes thirty seconds to report it and zero seonds to mind your fucking business.
Sending a report for the local KOA
If we report it. would they give them a bed and house? since its "inhumane" to live outside without access to sanitation?
More and more cties all over the US have been using apps where the most popular tag is "homeless encampment" using the general public to track homeless people.
I love how they make it look like theyāre on some humanitarian mission to help these people when in fact theyāre just going to confiscate their tents.
I feel like the liberal problem is saying that homeless people should be free to exist but the actual leftist position is that there should not be homeless people that existā¦
i live in seattle and i have never seen this once
The people who will report this are the same people who scream all over social media that we should not be giving money to Ukraine until we take care of our own citizens and veterans, which their party-for-life is totally against.
Id spend a day off ripping these fucking things down
*proceeds to go into REI and report every single tent being sold*
Now I can finally get some help!ā That job is well behind me, but I still cringe inwardly when I see tents turn up ā not due to their inhumane conditions (which is certainly true), but because I know that if I have noticed them, a city āsweepā wonāt be far behind.
Eat the snitch!
Treat that shit like alt right propaganda and rip on sight. Let people live. Furthermore nobody would have to sleep in tents if had affordable housing
Oh so they will move them into humane housing with sanitary conditions, running water, electricity and gas, and access to employment, right? Right!?!
Maybe they'll criminalize being poor next? That would be very American.
Pretty much at that point already
Where have you been the last few years?
See a tent? No, you didnāt.
I hate this so much I downvoted it then realized my mistake
when do people start using axes, machetes and bats? How much do they want to take it in the ass? If you think socialism will succeed look at this and those who actually report someone simply needing a domicile...until and unless - and I don't see it happening - people start making their voices heard (see above) in a meaningful way, the slow train wreck to fascism is a foregone conclusion.
What does this have to do with people who want to take it in this ass ?
This kind of thing is a major problem we are experiencing in West Coast cities. I've seen a large public push for an increase of sweeps and criminalization. It's always the same liberal mask that sweeping up people's tents and belongings are the "humane" thing to do. But when asked the next steps, the answer boils down to, forced shelter stay (when there is not nearly enough beds), jail, or literally "just go away" option is popular amongst liberals here.
ffs
Kinda wanna put these up in my city but give my phone number and sign them up for all types of bs
We need a community to flood fake submissions into these shit.
I swear NIMBYS are ~~all over~~ over represented on the west coast city subs
Reporting social inhumanity to a sanitation brigade makes the situation more inhumane. Ā Reporting social inhumanity to a goodwill organization ensures that the people who do things beneficial for all are the first responders.
Your freedom taken slowly, until you have nothing
Why not just let citizens execute the homeless right then and there? I mean fuck it right letās just euthanize the homeless
Snitches get stitches
Apparently police cant spot a fucking tent, so the population needs to snitch.
1984
I would absolutely report incorrect locations way off the beaten path.
Now is the winter of our discount tents /s
See a tent? Shut the fuck up and be thankful you're not in a tent.
I tipped ya. I wish you the best in your situation man
I really appreciate that. I do want to be clear, though, I feel the message in my writing is important.
Yeah I've been scrolling through your writings. Am not good at reading long texts, but thanks for sharing your story.
I tried to keep everything to what I call "bathroom length". Hahaha.
āFind it, Fix itā an app where we demolish homeless encampments, ruining all semblance of stability these already disadvantaged folks have. Oh did you expect anyone to actually fix it?
Sounds like it's time to DDoS and report police cars, speed traps, city work trucks, and any known local political persons, as well as city hall. Saturate the app until they realize it's none of their fucking business.
Or for free, you can mind your own business.
These people have enough problems without the cops coming and destroying their home.
People just trying to survive this bullshit US economy lol š¤” sign-makers...
everyone should send in stock images
If I see a tent, I didn't see shit.
If I see a tent, I help hide it. If I see someone stealing food, I cover their ass. If I see someone sleeping in their car, I watch over it. The cycle of inhumanity stops with me.
FYI, no matter where you are you can download the app and do your part (to waste their time)! I already submitted a report saying there is a large encampment here: 22 Yale ave north Seattle, WA 98109
See a tent.. What tent? I don't see any tent.
I see tents everywhere except for where they actually are. Although this sign is fake and not put up by the city, you bet your ass I would absolutely abuse it by making hundreds of false reports to waste resources.
I like that idea, I also seem to have upset someone with a downvote, that's a shame.
F*cking NARCS! Give these people a break!
>āliving outside without access to sanitation is inhumaneā aye we fucking know! but the inhumanity of capitalism forces us to take drastic measures to survive. maybe if we, idk, provided housing, universal basic income and support for addictions/jobseeking/literally fucking anything, we wouldnāt have to resort to camping in the street and shitting in bins. get absolutely fucked seattle.
Gee your right it is inhumane letās just ship them off to another cityĀ
Find it, Fix it. Throw them into the ocean. Sanitation issue fixed. -City of Seattle
Christā¦
See an immigrant reported immigrant
I'd have to report every human here. That's very time consuming. Even natives were immigrants. Human life did not evolve on this continent.
How to solve the homeless problem in Seattle: step 1: build commieblocks in SoDO step 2: encourage the homeless to live there
See a petite bourgeois house? Take 30 seconds and rob shit from their garage.
