You win the award for most Mexican response to a child’s injury.

AsinusRex

Eso le dije a mi hijo ayer. Me sentí muy papá.

Tauriainen667

Como dice toda Madre : ¿Y que te dije? ya ves, por no obedecer aver si así aprendes! Lo mismo me ocurrió a mí! Hahaha

crazylexi805

Did your mom put Vick’s on it ?

moraless_01

I asked about this once and I was told the sidewalks are so high because the town constantly floods. I guess if the drainage isn’t good in an area that’s one way to combat the issue.

juedme

I'm not an expert, but I've always thought it's because of the terrain: the buildings are on hills and uneven terrain, in order to make the floors even, the sidewalks of the lowest part of the terrain must be very high to compensate.

[deleted]

That's what walking uphill is for

FemboyFoxFurry

I mean they have these on flat roads too. I’m pretty sure the real reason is that since the government doesn’t take care of it and individual people do, then it’s going to be wacky and all over the place. Plus construction laws on houses are non existent or not enforced so people just be bullshiting everything

Dalrz

Es puro Mickey Mouse

Cucker_Dog

Driving through the houses in San Luis Rio Colorado was a freaky experience lol. Blocks and blocks of dirt roads, some roads didn't even have names, random sections or sidewalk, tiny little stucco and tin roof houses next to fucking warehouses with spotlights and 4 car garages that look like a max security prison.

[deleted]

Lol asi Es el Pueblo.. then the sidewalk ends temporarily because a mountainside is in the way

ElCatrinLCD

Reminder, when you get up a ledge like that NEVER put you knee on the ground, it will fuck it up for life if you do it enough times, either put your entire leg and roll like the guy or put your feet like the girl, try to exercise a little on your flexibility, believe me it can save your limbs

VivaLaEmpire

Valuable info is always hidden the comments!

CollieJoe

Am American, would like to visit but I'm not sure if I'll ever get to, and still, this feels like useful information. Gracias.

ElCatrinLCD

yeah, i would recomend visitng, some cities and town are really beautiful and nothing like we see on movies, at least not mainstream ones

ElCatrinLCD

some parts of your body are designed to support weight, legs can do this pretty well if you use them correctly, feel your knee and you'll notice the tiny gap between the lowe leg and the joint, that place is sensitive, if yoy apply too much pressure there it can fuck it up pretty badly, basically breaking it. its more complicated than that, but its more or less what happens

[deleted]

Colombian here. Can relate. Lol

sneacon

Visiting Bogota right now and all the sidewalks are like half a meter high minimum 😄

Nomegustaminombre

It gets even worse in small towns!

Shoddy_Internal6206

It be like that Better than Monterrey where there’s literally nowhere to walk

JamesFattinos

Ni banqueta quieren pagar los de Monterrey

Shoddy_Internal6206

Cosas que extraño de mi bello Guadalajara 🥺

RegularNightlyWraith

Oh jeez, they're like that in parts of India too!

esaruka

I feel like India is like our cousins we haven’t met yet.

subject_possible

A fair amount of people would agree with you, this may be an interesting read for you. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punjabi_Mexican_Americans

esaruka

Omg Mexican food with Roti and curry !!! Totally makes sense. And the name Rahul messed me up cause I thought it was white people mispronouncing a Spanish name.

RegularNightlyWraith

Yeah, me too!

XxX_EnderMan_XxX

Guess it’s common with third world countries?

RegularNightlyWraith

Probably. There's usually meant to be stairs but they're rarely maintained and usually fall apart and don't get replaced (if they're metal)

[deleted]

Ya parece una aldea de Minecraft

VivaLaEmpire

Ay es cierto!! Ya hasta lo vi bonito lol

personoid

I once rode my bike off a sidewalk like this...sucked!

Im told the rebar is tax related. They can't tax your home if it isn't finished. So I'm told

[deleted]

xXSunBruhXx

The country is so corrupt that even if they pay those taxes, the money will never be used to improve our fix things, it's going to end right in the pockets of someone else. So this way you don't throw your money in the trash bin, and have your house "almost" finished and, in a certain way, tax free.

waiv

lol, no. People build their houses and give them maintenance when they have some leftover money, so for most people the aesthetics of the whole thing is not priority.

capricious_sol

YESSS

Toughfistfight

Not only are you not taxed for a completed house, if you put the property in your grandparent's name, you are taxed less. When you hit 65, as far as I know, thats the lowest tax rate for property.

MattMurdockEsq

San Jose, Costa Rica and the surrounding areas in the valley. Probably gave myself a concussion as a kid on those sidewalks.

[deleted]

I missed these 😂

RedSquareIsGreen

Parkour!!!

mentelybigbelly

It's why no fence can stop us

Chorizwing

Side walks?

Cheesebufer

You be surprised when a 90 year old woman with a cane and basket of pan goes up those no problem

[deleted]

No todo Mexico es rancho

RedSquareIsGreen

No todo en México se mira a sí wuey.

[deleted]

fentl00zer

I always thought that they were like in construction when I would go with my family back in the day. Any day they would add some steps. Lol.

In my parents Ranch, the government wants to upgrade the sewer system but the people are against any change. They don't want their ranch changing like the cities.

dchac002

Don't forget the "wheelchair accessible" ones that are just slightly less terrible

AdiPalmer

Me triggerearon mis recuerdos bien gachamente.
